- Come cook with me shepherd's pie, an amazing comfort food and a favorite dish of ours. I share with you my recipe and my intrepretation of this famous dish. There are so many ways to make this recipe, I am showing you my way. Our family is busy and we are always trying to make recipes that are easier and less labor intensive. I choose to use ground beef in this version I am making. The ground beef mixture, mushrooms, brown gravy, french onion soup along with the peas and carrots are the body of this dish. I make mashed potatoes to cover our meat, veg, and gravy mixture and then top it off with cheddar cheese. I bake it at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I used a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. This shepherd's pie turned out incredible and the family loved it. Recipe Ingredients Used:
1 & 1/4 lb of ground beef
6 medium red skin potatoes
12 oz bag frozen peas and carrots
10 oz bag of frozen mushrooms
20 oz bag of frozen pepper and onion mix (I used apprx 3/4 cup)
2 brown gravy packets (makes total 2 cups of gravy)
1 can of french onion soup condensed
1 box of instant mashed potatoes (I used what I needed to stiffen up my potato mixture)
1/3 stick of butter
2 heaping tablespoons of sour cream
salt and pepper to taste
Follow Instructions In video and Bake dish at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and enjoy!

I grew up with this dish- too many years to confess to. We usually make our own gravy from the ground beef and onions. Also the family likes the addition of corn and petite tomatoes added with the peas and carrots. Have never used frozen carrots (cut my own). I use a half pkg. of Ranch dressing (dry) to the mashed potatoes. Use the cheese between the mixture and potatoes and also on top of the potatoes (which my family likes about half the casserole to be potatoes). Then sprinkle a generous amount of Parmesan cheese as the topper with the other cheese. I bet there about as many different adaptations of this recipe as there are viewers. Always fun to see new ideas. Thank you!!

My Mom's version of this followed a Sunday pot roast. The beef roast was melt in your mouth tender and cooked with carrots, onions and celery. The juices from the beef and beef broth made the basis for the gravy. Leftover homemade mashed potatoes topped the dish with extra melted butter added to the top after heating through! Yum. Both my parents worked and got home about 5:30. This dinner was easy and made me feel loved. Thank you for sharing your "take"... I know Angela feels loved too!

Love the idea of French onion soup. I always add Worcester sauce to mine. Being English by birth , that's what you do! Half instant potato is a great one too.loads of dairy is a given . Makes me want to make one , winter is here(with rain, all night now 5 am)...lol

I really enjoyed watching your take on this dish. Here in England 🏴 we call this “Cottage Pie” because it’s made with beef. We make “Shepherds Pie” with ground lamb but we also regularly get the two confused with the other 😂. I have never even thought about mixing fresh potatoes with packet potatoes, I think I may have to try it, your finished dish looked fantastic 😍 and this was another fabulous video x

Hi Jeff . My favourite meal . I put a can of French onion soup in mine and gravy mix . I cut up carrots , mushroom and what ever veg I have . But I blanch alot and bag them for the freezer . My kids love potatoes so it's half filling and half tatties . The cheese I do to but as I said my family love the topping so extra cheese . You made me so hungry I'm going to make a Shepard's pie on the weekend . I just wish my Jeff could cook . He can BBQ but then I watch he doesn't over cook stuff . I also cook meat like you did but then a mushroom layer then tatties cheese extra . Side order of mushy peas . I cook in the microwave . I put split green peas in soak overnight with a little bicarb . Then rinse well put in microwave bowl with a little salt and a cup and half water , Microwave for 5 minute intervals string and make sure they cook till really soft . Then I eat some to make sure ok . If it needs salt or pepper . Then make an extra gravy to pour over . I boy do I feel hungry and I've just ate . Lol . Love watch you cook . Hello Jeff and Angela, Thank you, as always for the peaceful and happy time. Cooking can be more than a little frenetic especially when four pots are going at the same time, but you presented it like taking us on a a cool, relaxing walk in the park, complete with dinner 😉🥳. I mean it doesn’t get much better than that. To zero in on just one part of the meal, the pathway to mashed potatoes was genius! You managed to find a way not to lose any of the good stuff that came out in the water. Incorporating flakes was brilliant, yet so obvious ONCE it is revealed. Will be doing that. And of course the sour cream… the sour cream!!! Only other comment was that your kitchen seemed to be missing its normal maximalist decorating touch LOL! Thanks and keep ‘em coming!

When I make Shepard's Pie I make a double batch and freeze one. I'm going to take it out of the freezer now and I know what we are having for dinner tonight! Oh my gosh you commentary in this video MADE MY DAY!!!! I was laughing all the way through. Good morning, this is very interesting and fun to watch. My late sweet beloved Mom made this growing up. As I remember she added green pepper too. I didn't like it due to peas and the gravy or whatever which I know was from scratch. I'm pleased to see you add mushrooms!! Yes! Thoughtful meal to make especially to have ready for Angela when she comes home from work!! Very special!! I like casseroles. Easy clean up and wonderful left overs!! Boy does that look good!! Such a unique version. Mine is adapted to the grandbabies tastes, layers of hamburger, corn, mashed potatoes, and then a pound of cheddar on top. You have to find the original King Ranch casserole (from Texas) and try it!! Oh my goodness it's delicious! Ok, I made it! I put a layer of mashed potatoes on the bottom and baked it a bit then I put the meat mixture, then another layer of mashed potatoes topped with cheese. This is definitely a go to dish.

Oh I love the cooking show, but my oh my, it certainly isn't fair on my tummy! Lol! I love shepherd's pie, but I haven't had it in years. I've been a widow for almost 11 yrs now, and cooking for one just isn't very fair. I like the use of French Onion soup though, it would be great in other recipes too. I have never used instant potatoes, I may have to try your half and half method. I enjoy cooking but I am somewhat handicapped by a picky husband. There are so many things he won’t eat. Bonjour mon ami ! Wow, I do make Shepherd Pie from time to time but watching you, I have a new recipe for sure. Here we don't do that with the gravy like you did. Therefore, it makes a very new version of that recipe and it looks so good. Also, the mixing the fresh potatoes with some dry/flake potato, this I will have to get as I never bought that. I have tasted those one or twice at and did not like that at all, probably because it was not done like you do, I am sure your way is going to be delicious!
