It’s important to know that Wicked *started* the trend of sympathizing with the villains. Sure, the movie came out after we’d already seen it done in Maleficent, and Cruella, just to name a few; but Wicked on stage was what started it all.
the operatic singing for glinda comes directly from the stage musical. ariana said in an interview that steven schwartz who’s in charge of the music wanted to add a more hip direction for her but ariana said she didn’t want to come off as ariana grande playing glinda, she really wanted to transform into glinda from the musical. i think it fits the character and changing it would be unnecessary 🤷.
Regarding not understanding the lyrics, especially on Ariana's operatic high notes in the first song ("No One Mourns The Wicked"), you're right but I think a lot of has to do with the sound mix of the theater. I saw it in Cinemark XD--a supposedly high quality format her in CA, but couldn't make out some of the words. I saw it again in Dolby Digital and understood everything she was singing. So especially if the theater isn't equipped or isn't sound balanced correctly, the music can muddy the words.
@@thescreensquadpodcast2980 I'm sure her fans prefer her regular pop voice, but that opening is probably going to get her that Oscar. That combined with her acting and comedic timing is going to put her over the top.

We told him. Arianna was definitely a huge a fan of the original and of course wanted to stay true to the stage play.

I thought it was impressive that Ariana was able to sing opera. That's not her usual style. Her voice was beautiful.
She's got a great voice, whatever style she's doing!
