    This brings back lots of memories for me. I worked for a jade cutter in Fairbanks, AK back in the 1980s. We worked both BC jade and Alaska jade. I often engraved pictures on the face of slabs that we made into clocks and plaques ets.

    I personally love the river jade the most. Because the brownish-orange that is all around the green gives it so much character.

      this is the weathering. yes, many people like the patterns, but the stones aren't often workable because of it.

    Hey brother, thanks for this video. Really great stuff here, nice camera work too. At the 14 minute mark when your reflection is in the glass I was like, "holy shit I've seen this hippie in Prineville and Madas!" I haven't approached you before - honestly I was too preoccupied deciding whether or not you were a member of the rainbow family cruising the shows for some free stones. I'm glad to dispel those concerns. Anyway, if the shows are back on this coming year hope to see you around again, and I'll say hello. I'm mining a jade deposit in the western U.S. and would like to hook up with some fellow jade workers out here. Not many people are aware of west coast jade because of lack of production. The B.C. jade gets all the attention when it comes to jade from this continent, and for good reason. Thanks again for the look at that beautiful material.

      Most large BC jade goes overseas for creating large ornamental carvings like the one you are talking about.

    I had no idea that jade mining was conducted on such a huge scale in BC. It seems far better organized than the mass jade mining operations in Myanmar, tho' Myanmar is predominantly jadeite compared to nephrite in BC.

    Is it difficult to get Jade (little pieces) to carve by oneself? To make plain flowers 13 mm diameter for example,,, to do pendants, it is my idea (in Spain)

    Hi there, I'm from South Africa and we came across huge boulders of African Jade with the Deepest Greens and not allot of Black spots and such but when it was delivered to us in Johannesburg we notices they were cracked into smaller sections and have now formed smaller flaky cracks all around the rock face, we were very disappointed and have been told by a Chinese friend that its worthless now which i dont think is true at all.

      what are you after? gemstones are very subjective in price. jade is normally by kilo or pound, but the amount of weathering can play a role in price. I can go pick a rock for you if youre interested. I have a pretty good eye for it.

    bc Jade comes in boulders, so they are very good for making statue and big carvings . But for gems and jewelry, way too much impurities.

    • @RubbleRockAndGem
      @RubbleRockAndGem  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not true. I used to think the same until i actually saw high grade bc jade. only 0.01% percent of jade from in-situ deposits is high grade. If you're not well connected, you probably haven't had a chance to see why its such a beautiful gemstone. That being said, Medium grade yields beautiful results as well. My cutters make cabs from it all the time. Large ones without any inclusions.
