    Hey love you guys, my wife Melissa an I have never missed an episode of your channel👍😀
    We have also stepped up from our fifth wheel to a 2005 Newmar Kountry Star 40' diesel pusher.
    I just wanted to let you know that you can purchase an adaptor (extended stay) that goes inline at your built-in tank to attach a portable tank of gas it's great for longer stays...👍
    Hope this is go news for you..
    Bless you all...

    I've been looked at both the fifth wheel and class A. I plan to purchase one or the other in the near future, but want to be absolutely sure of my decision. I've previously owned a ford f250 and a fifth wheel, but sold the set up years ago. The negative I would say about the fifth wheel, is when we would stay anywhere along the highway. Whether it was a Walmart or rest area, we never liked having to get out of our fifth wheel and walk to our truck if there ever were a dangerous situation. On a class A, you could just start the motorhome and drive off if you didn't feel right about something. That being said, my wife is leaning towards the fifth wheel. She likes the fact that there are Ford dealerships across the country if anything ever happened to the truck. Additionally, the labor rate, parts, etc.. are pretty standard across the country. In contrast, you never know what you'll get with these sporadic motorhome mechanics. I remember watching one of the Loftis Party of Six Vlogs, where their radiator was overheating. They took it to a RV mechanic shop in the middle of nowhere and were overcharged by thousands of dollars before they ultimately discovered the problem was a radiator that was covered with dirt and grim, which clogged its ability to breath and cool down. I Could go on and on, but that's my two cents for what it's worth.

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that was us LPO6 who was broke down in the motorhome with clogged radiator. I will agree that getting a Ford truck worked on would probably be easier to find than a CAT mechanic. Best wishes to y’all on whatever you choose! Thanks for watching

    The big difference is in a Class A if your RV breaks down your house breaks down. You have to go where the RV goes to be repaired and you may not like the neighborhood or cannot stay in the RV(hotel cost). Where the 5th wheel can separate from the tow vehicle if the tow vehicle breaks down. 👍👍👍

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But that’s saying a 5th wheel will never need repairs. I know of people who now have been renting a house for a month while the dealer fixes the warranty work needed on their new 5th wheel. Since we have two drivable vehicles we are never without transportation. Opposed to a Truck & 5th wheel you would be stuck in the 5th wheel in the truck breaks down. In an emergency situation I like having 2 drivable vehicles. Also consider traveling and the truck breaks down. Then you have to get both the 5th wheel and truck towed.

    Well done comparison, we went 5er , our biggest reason was separate the home from the motor. Maintaining a diesel truck it’s easier and cheaper. Your best advice , start out with a used one

    And forth now on a Class or a 5th wheel. I’m leaving towards a Class A because most of the time it will just be my dog and myself. So trying to park a 5th wheel alone would suck!

    Hey, motor home proprane topic here. It is possible to get a connector so you can have an external propane tank. That way if you need just a little more time before you are moving you can use that external tank to get you through before you have to move the rig.

    • @LoftisPartyofSix

    Great video with realistic and thoughtful explanation, having experienced both types of rigs.
    As a side note, Allison does not recommend flushing the transmission, they recommend doing it the old school way. Dropping the pan, draining the fluid and changing the filters. Flushing can push fine dirt into crevices were they should not have dirt, and this can cause lots of issues down the road.
    Safe travels, and God Bless!
    John

    My opinion may be a bit controversial, but 5th Wheel all the way, ours is a 392MBL with autoleveling. We Love our 4-slide apartment on wheels. I call the motohomes a "Reverse Tardis" (Dr. Who). The Tardis was a phone booth on the outside and massive on inside. But the motorhomes often seem like a Tardis in reverse. I've stepped into some massive class As, even some Super Cs. They look massive outside, but step inside and I'm just underwhelmed with the small space, hence the term "Reverse Tardis". I've seen single slide travel trailers with more room then many Class As. We tow the 5th wheel with a SRW 1 ton 4x4 that gets 12-13mpg towing and 21 - 24mpg by itself making it an ideal tow rig/commuter. We only have one engine/drivetrain to maintain, and its a 4x4, which makes it perfect for off-roading too :~)

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not controversial at all! 5th wheels are a great choice for many people, same as Class As. The important thing is each person find what works best for them and enjoy RVing! Thanks for watching

    Happy Belated 2020...maybe I’m still in time for the Chinese New Year!! Anyway, I started following your lovely family when you had just 900 subscribers (I only said just to 900, because that’s still a ton!) but now I just noticed you have 41,000 LPO6 fans!! I remember the start of your journey and being anxious, excited, and a bit (well a lot) envious of this crazy adventure you were starting with 4 kids in tow, one of them being a baby and couldn’t wait for your next video to post to see what adventure was next! I think I even got a few tears when Grandpa showed up at your first destination with Chasen’s bike in tow and one more “good luck, have fun, we will miss you, good bye” hug from Dad. My biggest question for contemplating becoming a brand new to RV living family of 4 was do you choose a 5th Wheel for extra space and homelike floor-plans or a Class C due to bunk options and ability to drive and have less frequent stops and maybe happier kiddos not stuck to a seat in a cab of a truck. Thank you for creating this excellent comparison of the options. This video is a fantastic video of the pros and cons of both from someone who has lived both. Layne said it best “you just adapt to whatever you have and live it”, and I believe make it work for your family. I see a future in a Class A Family floor plan model designed by Michael and Laine as the face of the FullTime Families movement :) Safe travels and I’m still waiting for your trip to New England and the offer still remains to come visit our location in beautiful Greensboro, Vermont. With Panoramic Mountain View’s, a couple of ponds, trails to explore, and there is even water and a hook up there! Just wait until June when the snow is finally gone and sunsets are like a painting :)

    The class A’s with the motorized bed that comes down over the driver seats seemed like an awesome set up until I saw a video last week of an RV accident, and that bed ended up smashing down the passenger seat and coming out the corner of the windshield. Had there been a person in the seat, they would have been decapitated. I love how you’ve made your master into a kids room. It’s cute 😊. I must say though, I absolutely loved the bunkhouse in your old 5th wheel. It was absolutely huge. Perfect for families with older kids. Our bunkhouse is only about half that size due to the outside kitchen. It’s OK for now, but when our 12 year old is older he will need more space. Our bunkhouse has a full and a single bunk on top and a table booth that turns into a bed on bottom which we’ve never used. We’ve only had the RV one year and our son has had it in the bed position since day one because he’s always bringing friends along. Stay safe and healthy and thank you for this video👍🏼👍🏼🏕

    Great video with some awesome info for people that want to know the pros and cons of a 5th wheel vs a motorhome. I have to respectfully disagree with the statement that most 5th wheels have 2 bathrooms. There are definitely more floor plans with 2 then there ever have been, but in my opinion there are still more with only 1.

    Fifth wheels are easier to overload. Our Class A DP. has almost 8 ft. ceilings. We didn't go to a Class A until our kids were grown. It cost me a thousand dollars+ a year in upkeep. That doesn't include repairs. Having grown up RVing did kinda help. I suggest renting to try it out before you buy.

    Some trailers have 6 slides, however they are not the full wall slides of some class A’s.
    Most gas A’s are 1 bath, seems like most 40ft+ DP’s are 1.5-2 bath
    Since I do not own a truck, I prefer Class A pulling a Jeep. If I had a truck and/or enjoyed driving them, a 5er is hard to beat.

    In my opinion a motorhome is way better. First thing if you have to get up and leave you can get right into the driver seat and go with out going outside if some crazy is out there threatening. Another thing you can tow behind it without a doubles endorsement and most of all is your inside well your traveling and if your not the driver you don't have to stop to go to the restroom. You can have your wife make you a sandwich with out having to stop. And the last thing your generator that runs off the gas tank and usually will quit when the gas tank gets to a quarter so you will have enough gas to get to a gas station.

    Another advantage to think about with 5th wheel & truck vs a class A, you have a lot easier time FINDING service for your truck than a class A! There are dealerships and mechanics all over but class A service ...? Not so much

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! They are harder to locate mechanics.

    Our Class A works well for us and we don't have to deal with the big truck issues when parked. Our car gets 40mpg and the
    Class A gets between 7-9 mpg and the car is easy to find a place to park it. We don't have the issue of the truck not really fitting in the campsite well also the price of that truck plus the 5th wheel pushes it well over the cost of our new Class A. The big difference is you have an old Class A and he has a newer 5th wheel. Newer Class A's have more storage inside and outside and bigger closets.

    It is such a toss up..started out with 5th wheel and f350, then bought a bigger 5th wheel, then thought a MH woyld be better so sold the 5th and truck for a MH. Question?? I do miss the 5th and truck love the bunks and extra sleeping room, but the MH is so convenient. Bathroom if you need it while driving, can fix something to eat and coffee while driving, crazy cant deside😂😂 guess we'll keep the MH for now..hugs🤗💓

      That does sound super convenient but isn't that taking a risk on safety? Personally I'd rather have everyone in a seatbelt while driving. Of course, nothing is totally safe if you're in an accident. I'm trying to choose between the two as well.

    One thing that influenced me being a "semi senior" ( just me) was all the things I read for years from full timers. Break downs/ repairs.
    If I had kids ( 7 grand babies! They stay home with my 3 beautiful daughters!! Lol) and your MH had to go in the shop, even for a few days you need a hotel$$. With a 5th and a truck repair you could still live in the space that they are all a custom to. Perhaps even on the lot of the repair station.
    Something I considered even on my own.
    Oh, wonderful job covering this subject!!
    Be safe!

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But 5th wheels need repairs too and sometimes have to go in for warranty work. I know a family fulltiming in a 5th wheel and it was in the shop for a month getting things fixed. They had to rent a house while waiting.

    You are right about the style of travel and one’s comfort level. We chose a class A because my son and I love to sleep while traveling , we don’t have to stop to go to the bathroom and no need to swing by any restaurant for lunch during travel. Sometimes we take our tow vehicle but recently, we decided that it’s easier to get a rental car at the destination city than to drag our mini van using a dolly. (We are not full timers yet.)

    You have to have a Big Bus because of the Kids, travel would be a Nightmare for your family with a 5th Wheel. With one or Two Kids it would be ok. Just my opinion because I have traveled in Both Types. I have a Big Coach like yours it cost a Quarter Million but cheaper to keep up than my Money Pit House I am going to sell. Party of Six needs a Big Bus... My Bus has 4 Slides and a Bath and 1/2. (Jakussi) lol Tub in mine when at a RV Park Full Hook Up's.

    Depending on the state you can with a 5th wheel tow another car or a boat behind the 5th wheel camper.

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      True.. but those who travel the US like us, the 3rd tow vehicle wouldn’t be worth having if it’s not allowed in all states.

    • @toddentingh4449

      @@LoftisPartyofSix I should added depending on what state your registration is in. You can tow it in any state. But there is some states that despise it. I would only tow a boat or jetski due to I love water. And thanks for the content keep it up. Stay safe and God bless your Journey.
