Currently have a 34’ 5th wheel and a diesel truck. Always jealous of the motorhomes that pull in after us and then watch us do setup while they are having a cocktail by the fire. 🤪. We are thinking of moving to a motorhome for many of the reasons you listed.
Great points! We have a diesel pusher motorhome and we’ve had the discussion before about fiver vs motorhome. We’ve decided to stick with the motorhome.
Same here. We love our DP too. But 5th wheels do have their own attractive points as well and my next video will cover that part of the discussion too. :-)
We just moved up from a gas class C to a DP. Best part of a MH is having dinner cook in a slow cooker while you drive! Our 5er friends are considering changing for many of your reasons!
Ha Ha!!! You are so right. There are a lot of little conveniences that motorhomes offer while traveling that make them a great choice for full-timers. And cooking dinner while driving is one of them. Thanks for mentioning that. Of course, 5th wheels have some great features too and I will be putting out a video on those advantages this week. By the way, thanks for subscribing to the channel. I'm glad to have you folks on board!
Had travel trailer, fifth wheel and now motor home. Generator and ease of setup was reason I now own a motor home. Loved fifth wheel but motor home far easier in every aspect.
Duane, good informative video. I'm debating the pros and cons of Class A vs 5th wheel. You've got good points here, some I didn't know. New subscriber 👍
I'm glad the video was helpful for you Rejean. I faced the same decision for a long time myself. We love both Class As and 5th wheels. We just had to decide which one was the best fit for us. When you list the pros and cons of each and then compare it to your own needs objectively, usually the right decision starts to become apparent.
My thoughts are if you are just going on occasional trips and vacations, then go motor home. It is much nicer for everyone not having to be stuck in the truck seats, as mentioned in the video. If you are a full time RVer, then go with a trailer because there are fewer things that put your home in the shop, along with all your belongings. We are just part time, so we got a Class A motor home and tow the SUV.
Hi Rick. It sounds like you have a great plan there. Full-time RVing is a lot of fun. But it requires extra planning and preparation to do it right. I will be making a video on that soon, so stay tuned!
I have had both 5th wheels and motor homes. Notice you don’t see many quality 15 plus year old 5th wheels. Diesel pushers are such a better bargain in the long run, you can get a nice solid used DP for a lot less than a 5th wheel and the pick up you need to pull it. Plus it makes towing my Jeep behind it easier. I’ll never go back to a 5th wheel.
You make a great point James. One of the least expensive options to get started as a full time RVer is to buy an older motorhome that has been maintained well. You get the advantage of having the tow vehicle and the RV in one package, usually for much less than buying a comparable fifth wheel and towing truck rig. It sounds like you found the perfect setup for your needs.
I recently have seen some fifth wheels that are absolutely gorgeous and the prices are relatively less than a coach due to the fact that you don't have to pay for a get up and go vehicle. However, in some cases it appears that 5th wheels might be an alternative to "park models" . I know this episode isn't about that but wondered what would be the advantages and disadvantages in a park model and a 5th wheel. Perhaps sometime you could address this. Thank you. I am enjoying your channel.
That would be a great rig Robert. All of the 5th wheels you mentioned have good reputations. And using a HDT to pull it would mean you never have to worry about weight issues or being under-powered. I met a guy a little while back who also put a flat bed behind the cab on his HDT large enough to store a Smart Car on it. He used a winch to put the Smart up on the bed with ramps and take it off. It worked pretty slick. With that setup you have the best of all worlds. You have the living space of a large 5th wheel, the towing capabilities of the HDT and the economy of the Smart Car when tooling around town.
@@RVInspectionAndCare, Duane I am confident, just going to come down to cost, We will mot be full time, rather go around country to visit kids and avoid cold winter months in Illinois. Of course that's only a plan. Visit NH in Junction City this July. Challenge I have is my wife desires a toy hauler so she can use the garage for sewing.

LOL. I'm glad the video was helpful. Have safe and happy travels!
Another great video! I'd add that driving safety in a motorhome versus trailer (emergency braking, etc.) is a plus.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject with us Jay. And for supporting this channel so well!

We just put the crock pot in the sink of our 5th wheel when traveling. We have solar and lithium that allow us to do that.

Thanks for watching the video and sharing your experience with us James. It sounds like you made a good choice for your situation.
Just found your channel last week on Diesel versus Gas, and once again you did not disappoint me with your analysis.
Thanks so much David. I hope you will be a regular viewer!

The built in generator sold me and the easy set up
Those are two very valid points in favor of motorhomes TOT. Thanks for commenting on that.

I just found you too...great info .wife and I plan on buying a diesel pusher in about 3years .hopefully we'll be out there full time.

Thanks for the suggestion Fallon. I'll see what I can do about making a video on that comparison. :-)
I like this. Yes for motorhome. Just me. Is it winterized?
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Good. Subject!! We did not already have a truck so went with motorhome.
Same here! That usually makes the decision much easier to make. :-)
I'm leaning towards a 5th Wheel (New Horizons, DRT, Luxe) pulled by a HDT (safety, ride comfort, convenience and overall cost of ownership)

@@RVInspectionAndCare, Duane, I "learned" this from Jack Mayer and many other HDT folks. Most use the SMART to get around.
@@robertweber3140 I was impressed with the setup myself Robert. I hope it all works out for you! :-)
