  • In this vlog I chat about why I decided to buy a Harley-Davidson. One of the biggest misconceptions is that Harleys are slow and handle like crap... Which is simply not true and I chat about the reasons why. I give a few reasons why I think Harley Davidsons are awesome and few perspectives into my decision making. I love all motorcycles but I do think Harley Davidsons get a bad wrap.

I’m 32, just coming off a Ducati and had sport bikes and supermotos my entire riding life since I got my Moto license at 18. I also purchased my first Harley just over a month ago and for me personally, it’s completely changed my attitude toward riding. I was an absolute squid for the last decade, was one of “those guys” who didn’t signal, cut off traffic, blasted between cars at 100+ mph in the freeway, always just made it a point to get to where I was headed as quickly and obnoxiously as possible. This dyna has completely chilled me out. I find myself just purposely getting lost and wandering home and even commuting to work more as well. It’s probably and unpopular opinion, but the sport bikes felt like a chore to ride? They’re not really good around town, they’re super uncomfortable to sit on (especially for me with kinda sub par knees) and I always knew I’d do something stupid at some point during my rides so I’d almost talk myself out of riding most of the time and just take the car everywhere. It got to a point where I was beginning to lose interest in riding all together. Now with the Harley, I’m the complete opposite and wanna ride the thing till the wheels fall pff. People shit on Harleys because they’re slow and have massive engines that struggle to make any kinda decent power numbers, but idk. I can’t even begin to put into words how different this feels from anything else I’ve ridden. I’m hooked now

Mate this is a bloody perfect explanation of I'd say how most of us coming from sport bikes, sport touers etc feel. I actually feel abit silly not making the change over earlier haha what an amazing experience it is to be riding a hsrley. Enjoying the journey and feeling the soul ! Love that you find yourself getting lost and just enjoying the commute now. And feeling like a chore to get on a sporty too accurate mate. Very uncomfortable machines but they have their purpose. In my mind it's just the track... I don't find them practical for any street situation. Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed reading your experience. Thanks for watching 🧡 🖤 🤙

Last three years I have been going through toughest times in my life struggling with mental emotional and physical wellbeing after long Covid and my father passing away while I was seriously ill the only thing which kept me going was my Harley Davidson 2019 softail slim. Even I struggle to go for long rides but still enjoying local rides around London or Home Counties . Keep on riding and smiling. From London England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have a Harley because it has always been a childhood dream. Life always too busy and a little hectic to even think about buying one. As a 13 year old kid, I was introduced to these amazing machines. Back then, I would odd job for people, I knocked on the door of an Australian couple here in the UK. The bloke had two Harleys and I can remember thinking how amazing and cool they looked. This bloke was a millionaire so as a kid, always thought these bikes would be way out of my league. Had bikes most of my life but 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with Cancer. Bit the bullet last year and bought my first Harley. Love it for all of the reasons you have mentioned. This is more than a motorcycle, this is a Harley.

I picked up my first ever Harley January 2nd of this year! I’ve always wanted one! Found one second hand that was very well looked after! It’s my 2nd bike! I also own a 2022 MT-10. I got into quite a bit of trouble last September and can’t behave myself on the MT-10 because that bike just wants to go and I want to enjoy the limits it allows me to soar. Going into the Harley process I have always wanted a bobber style and picked up a 1200cc 2014 Sportster 48. Coming from my MT-10 I thought it would be a lot slower and keep me out of trouble. It packs a punch and I absolutely love my Harley! I intended on keeping it for the season and kicking it down the road once my trouble cleared up November 28th of this year. Riding the Harley home for 30 miles in 28 degree weather did something to me I was completely blown away with how well it rode and developed a bond with it I had no idea was going to to happen! The Harley is here to stay! It’s like the old school muscle cars from the mid to late 60’s! Yes my MT-10 is far more comfortable to ride but there’s something so raw about the Harley that I enjoy! The Harley will keep me safe compared to my MT-10. I can let it hang out on the Harley and not worry as much as if on the MT-10. Loved your video!

Totally agreed. I love Harley's. Have owned many different bikes over time. I do not prejudice against any bike. We all take the same risks on the road, and we all share the same passion. Mental health is our connection. Always my happy place. But I have also notice I rarely gets nods back on the road. I will nod to everyone. I small nob could really make someone's day who needs it. I understand completely. I'm on my 28th motorcycle. I currently have in my garage, the three best bikes I have ever owned. A Royal Enfield classic 350. A gen 3 klr 650 and a 2023 114 street bob Harley. All these bikes make me smile, literally! When I purchased the Royal Enfield my mates thought I'd gone crazy. Only 20hp but my god it's fun to ride.

As i was starting my riding career i always told myself i would never own a harley. I always liked the way they looked and sounded just never really wanted to pay the prices. One of my freinds owned a 2009 crossbones and it sat for a couple of years. I asked if he would be willing to sell it and he said yes. I took it for a test ride and had to have it. Ive now had it for almost 2 years and 16,000 miles and wont ever let go of my black pearl. Its taken me on multi state rides and back and forth to work. I always smile while im on it. Much love from Texas, Usa. Keep killin it mate

Picked up my '23 Fatboy last Sept. It was "used" because after putting 867 miles on it, the original owner decided that bike wasn't for him. He traded it in for a bagger. I bought it for 18k U.S. I'm from Chicago and got to ride it until it got too cold, which wasn't long after purchasing it. I'm excited for this upcoming summer so i can really enjoy her. The reason I like and got a harley
I have always been a muscle guy, love V8 and love the sound, my second car I got was a VE SSV manual it was the best I loved that thing it was a pure beast,
I always saw my mates cruising around on their bikes, my house mate had a Ninja and when I saw him ride he always looked so uncomfortable, I always liked the look of the harley and the sound.
When I first rode a harley I felt comfortable, laid back and chill, I love the relaxing feel of a cruiser and the way you can just sit back and just pull the throttle back and it just goes.
My dream bike I will hopefully own by the end of this year is a Harley Fatbob.
The look the sound and the ride (I've test rode the fatbob more times then I can remember) I love the freedom and the community around harleys

50 years of riding and I've had 'em all over those years, Japanese sports bikes and sport-tourers, Italian, German, a raft of British stuff. I always took the pee out of Harley's, slow, heavy, overpriced, garage queens, weekend toys for the rich. Bought a Dyna Street Bob just over a year ago ..... within a mile of riding it .... I finally understood, I got it! I ride alone, not interested in HOG meets or rallies but it rides like nothing else I've owned. It shakes at idle, it vibrates, it does nothing brilliantly but it feels 'alive'! I know I'm on a motorcycle when I'm riding it, biking like it used to be!

    Hey Matt, classic vid bro.
It's pretty simple to understand, Harley's are like having a hot rod, heaps of chrome and black , loud and lumpy, and most of all you can just jump on relaxed and enjoy all it has to offer and without breaking the speed limit. On the other hand, as soon as you start a sports bike your adrenalin is already pumping, your blood pressure is also on the up and you're forever stressed looking for either 1. Mobile speed cameras 2. Police with laser and radar..... to me that's alot of hidden stress. I've had more sport bikes than Harley's but let's be realistic, on the racetrack 100% sport bikes in their element, on the road very hard to ride safely at the speed limit..
So many guys have got onto Harley's after doing the whole sportbike thing and have never looked back mate for exactly the reasons you mentioned.. great vid as always bro, whatever the two wheels preferred, get out enjoy the soul food and get the machine back home as it left..
At least with a hog you can sit and Mr Sheen all the chrome and sit back and enjoy the sparkle, instead of lubing a chain lol
Take care mate 👍 23 Fatboy bro 😎👊💪🤙

That's it mate, everything has there purpose doesn't it. I do agree with you. Very stressful always 2 seconds away from death but Would be good to have the best of both worlds. I'd love a track bike that would be so much fun, but for the road it's not for me anymore.
That's exactly right, bloody love anything with 2 wheels mate. Hahaha don't miss doing the chain at all 🤣 Mr sheening the bike is very satisfying!!! Nailed it mate. Glad you enjoyed the vlog and thanks for watching 🧡 🖤 🤙

After many years of riding hyper sport motorcycles, I realized that unless I was riding very aggressively I did not enjoy the bike. Also it is not safe anymore to ride in the manner. My first Harley Davidson was a 2022 Nightster which was very fast and also it was a lemon. I purchased a 2023 Harley Davidson Street Bob which is still a Harley but in a smaller size. This bike is totally different than my past motorcycles and it has its own personality. RIDE WHATEVER BIKE YOU LIKE AND THE HELL WITH ANYONE ELSE.

Totally agree with the mental health thing. Motorcycles help distract from the grind & setbacks in life. I got back into riding in 2021 after a bit of being off of them. I too owned all sorts of bikes, along with a couple Harley Spotsters. When I got back into it, I got another Sportster. But since sold & bought a Softail Street Bob 114 & it's no joke. She screams with a little open exhaust & retune. No hate for other bikers. I like bike!! 🚲😅

Sport glide..most comfortable bike I’ve ever been on. Not sure what it is. The engine, the comfort, or the fact I don’t need a fast bike to kill myself. Hello Matt!!! This video is perfect! It just goes to show you don't need to be out riding to make something special! I think it's just you yourself that makes your channel so special! You could be talking about watermelons and people would watch! Like you... I'd have to admit Danny got me interested in the Harley Davidson brand! His videos are really amazing what he has done for both the Harley Davidson brand... and what he has done to help people in the mental health field. I still like watching his videos, but you have something special about yourself which others can see too that makes you a special person!!! Perhaps it's your magnetic personality... don't know, but I truly enjoy watching you and your adventures!!! I have always been a sport bike rider. have always owned the fastest motorcycles on the road. I presently own a 2011 Kawasaki ZX14 Ninja. More speed than I will ever use, but what fun it is to open it up! I got the 2023 Harley Davidson Breakout with the 117 Milwaukie 8 in it. This motorcycle will pull your damn arms out of the sockets!!! The power this Harley makes is so impressive!!! I know you test rode one of these... so you have a pretty good idea of their power! I'm not much of a person that goes sliding around corners... so the Breakout is perfect for me. Point me in a straight line and hold on!!! I usually always wave or nod to all motorcyclists, but rarely get a wave or nod back. I don't care... I'm having a good time by myself. I get so many complements on my Breakout too. Love it when I'm at the Harley dealership and the salesmen come out and tell me how special my Breakout is. They all love the Baja Orange color and all the chrome. You're a great guy Matt!!! Wish I could go out riding with you one day! John in Oregon USA

I grew up around Harleys and always knew I'd own one (but my first bike was a 1977 Honda CB750, i got for $200.00 in 1991
.loved that bike!!). To me, Harley is like the muscle car of bikes, the sound, the feel, the power, the attitude, and so many different ways to customise them. I've never understood the disdain from other style bike riders, but it goes both ways. I've known some Harley riders that bag on sport/cafe bikes as well. To me, it doesnt matter. You ride what suits you, whats most comfortable for you. Ive never ridden a sport bike, yet, so, i cant speak on them. If you're on 2 wheels, you're in the same family/community as i am, regardless of what you ride, and i give respect to them all (as long as they aren't riding in a way that puts others in danger). I'm getting ready to put a new seat, 12" ape hangers, new grips, sissy bar on my '01 Softail Deuce (Medusa) Its an older bike, but it's tough and have never had any leaks or issues with her. Very reliable, loud, fast, and fun, AND THERAPEUTIC....its hard to put to words the feel of riding a Harley, it's special. Stay safe, brother, and hopefully the rain will let up soon! Why did I get a Harley…? Firstly, I love the classic old school motorcycle aesthetic. I think Triumph and Harley-Davidson do this best. As a short rider, the low and narrowed seats on a Harley were the most practical option for my initial comfort. But the raw, rugged, visceral power that you hear and feel from a Harley is unmatched. The bikes almost feel alive, and they certainly awaken the spirit. And the seemingly unlimited customization options from after market sellers adds to the Harley owner experience. There’s a lot to like.

I agree with what you're saying. It's kind of like Muscle cars vs Porche/Ferrari. Yes that Porche, Ferrari, Lambo is going to overall outperform that Camaro/Mustang/Challenger etc. But it's not going to have that low lope and shake at the stop light and roar. Yes that sport bike is going to outperform a Harley...but it's not going to shake and growl. It's viceral. It depends on what "speaks" to you. No right or wrong answer here.

Nice vid mate, definitely know what you're sayin. I come from sports bikes (still own a 2017 MT09) but something about the Harley drew me in. I've always appreciated a cool looking bike, be it Harley or sporties etc but was never really too interested in HD previously. My bro even bought a Night rod I think it was years ago and at the time it still didn't grab me too much.. Strangely though many years later I was playing Days Gone on the playstation, and rolling around on a 'kinda harley' sounding bike made it really enjoyable for me and it was then that I started taking more interest in HD and started following guys like Blockhead. Back then I started lookin at things like Irons and sportsters but I was always a little unsure about the size of them etc. The idea kind of fizzled out and whilst I'd still enjoy watching some HD content on YT that was about the extent... then I was just browsing online at various bikes, saw a kick ass looking streetbob for sale at an affordable price and it stirred everything up again... and now I have a beautiful 2015 Fat Bob and loving it !
Very different style of riding but definitely puts a smile on my face just hearing that thumping that comes out of the pipes and enjoying the comfortability that comes with the riding style. Yet to make a group of riding friends over this side of the country since moving over a couple years ago, will have to get out some more for sure (I've been lazy!) Might have to give putty road a look again this weekend maybe!

Harvey Danielsons all used to leak & during the AMF days (Shovelheads) quality was way below par. This was all sorted when the Harley employess, including Willie G. Davidson bought the company from AMF. They were the ones who designed & built the Evo, the most reliable Harvey Danielsons ever built
Some of my best memories are riding in the rain. You won't melt like sugar. I promise you.
The whole point is most motorcycle riders are not as good as they would like to be. They are not Casey Stoner. So a sportsbike is never going to be used to its full potential. & they are too uncomfortable for long cruising rides. That's why we buy & ride a Harvey Danielson. To cruise all day in comfort & style. Of course disregard everything above, in regards to my Flathead Chopper!

I brought a harley instead but what impressed me was centre of gravity at low speed been a big bike. I now own a street glide gone to Darwin , centre of Australia travelling. But i have nearly been taken out by some sports riders especially on weekends when they get out & about & go to hot into the corner. At times i have kept up with some of them in corners & im on a 370kg bike. Well we don't really haha, because it's all about getting out on the road for our mental health and enjoying the elements. Well for the rest of us it is...
Agree with you on that, none of us got a harley for the handling or speed... I never claimed that either. Just that there is a big misconception about them.
