    Good info - it's 72% with your own van - I do well with my own van - yes you do miss out on the drop and hook loads but the extra revenue kinda makes up for it - the trailer brings in an extra $1200-$1500 per month for me - my payment is $476 a month on a 2018 utility - sorry if I overstepped on your channel - just adding to the conversation

      Any problems getting loaded lately ?? Our company chases broker freight and we are really struggling lately. Also do they have discounts on tarps ?

      Thank you for the correction on the rate, I don't know why I said 71% instead of 72% I will be sure to clarify in my next video, and no overstep at all, it's good to get other's insight. Like I said, a company van is better for me in my area, about 90% of my longhaul loads coming out of the house are drop and hook, so it's a good fit for me. Although that my not be the case for others. My best advice for someone coming over to Landstar would be to feel it out first, unless they already have a trailer, and see what fits their operation best, then make that business decision. Thanks for watching and for the comments!

    Good info...percentage difference is only 7%. That really isn't a huge incentive when you have to account for monthly insurance, licensing, wheels/tires and breaks...Those expenses will have to be factored into your CPM. There are the pros and cons, and as Ryan stated it depends upon your region...

    So I got a question, When you take their Trailer in for the suspection and you're waiting in line, Or you're needing to take their trailer and for tires or what they have not
    How are you compensated for that?
    I really hope they don't expect you to work for free?
    And wait there for hours getting their equipment inspected

    I am told the reefer loads pay more than dry van. Isn't that true?

      I don’t really know, sorry! I have never done reefer loads.

    I am contracted to carrier one at this moment I pay 306 a week to rent the flatbed I'm using and the last few weeks I am struggling to make 3k gross so I am working on getting to the house to get my hazmat and start the process of switching over to landstar your videos are really helping me so thank yOu.

      @truckingandfixing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi, thanks for watching and for the comment. If you are looking to stay on flatbed, I believe Landstar charges around $175 per week for the rental and you're at 73% on the line haul. Dry vans are free, and you're at 65% on line haul. I do very well on Hazmat loads, and I would recommend you get your tanker endorsement as well, I do a lot of chemical tote loads that have paid well. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

      Grocery warehouses are the worse, you got to deal with lumpers taking all day getting loaded or unloaded, or the Hunts Point market you pay to get in pay to get unloaded if you don’t get robbed while waiting to get unloaded

    I don’t get it , why do you guys have to be tie up on lease for 5 years when you can save the money go to the public auctions and buy a good truck for $20k dollars?

    • @johnsmith-fw8np

      Some trucking companies won't allow a truck that is older than five years into their fleet. So guys buy newer trucks that cost more on which they take a loan on.

      Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia we are neighbors; how’s freight out of Ohio

    • @truckingandfixing
      @truckingandfixing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bigpapi101 Welcome to the channel neighbor! Freight is not too great in the greater Cleveland-Akron area. We have been pretty spoiled in the past up here. I had a two week search set up, going the West coast, with a minimum load board rate of $2 per mile, and there was virtually nothing. I even lowered the rate to $1.85, which puts me at around $1.25, and there was not much. Hopefully it picks up soon. Even some of my most dependable agents and customers are running dry. Thanks for watching and for the comments.

    • @bigpapi101
      @bigpapi101 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia yeah freight in Ohio has really never been an issue; hopefully it comes back by mid summer no later than the 4th qtr, if not, I guess we just have to ride it out.
