My favorite part of this is when he talks about the crucifixion and how Stevie Richards was saying “This is F’d up.” Sandman is like “SHUT THE FUCK UP STEVIE! THIS IS PERFECT!”
I once had an idea for a parody of the Sandman called the Santa Man. He was a crazed ex-mall Santa who came down to the ring chugging milk while Rock Sugar's Don't Stop The Santa Man played and beat the shit outta people with a kendo stick painted to look like a candy cane. XD
sandman looked great, it was tough listening to his family describe the hardships and how he pushed them away. hoping he can stay clean and continue repairing his relationship with them.
The WCW/ECW Invasion angle, or rather the failure of said angle, put me off wrestling for 21 years. Happy to be back, and appreciate your content. Great stuff all around
"They stuck adrenaline right in my heart like Pulp Fiction. I'M READY TO GO!" I heard this in a Stone Cold podcast with Tommy Dreamer. This line should have been in the episode.
I kinda was disappointed that they didn’t interview or even mention Tommy Cairo. If you don’t know him, he was Sandman’s first feud after he turned heel and became what we know him now. What people may not know about Sandman’s character, is that he was BASICALLY a pimp. And would tell people to pay their bill.
I'm 43 and from northeast PA. In the mid 90s ECW used to play on some weird channel at about 2am. I knew that wrestling was fake and watched WWF and WCW, but kids in school as well as me- thought ECW was pretty real. It was just so low-fi and raw that it felt like you were watching something illegal.
I recently watched this episode of 'The Dark Side Of The Ring'. There's so much about The Sandman that I literally had no idea about on top of what I either already knew & never forgot, or, stuff that I already knew & couldn't remember because time just went by.
Your speaking of CM Punk in ECW reminds me, I'm fairly certain Heyman has talked about how ECW would have had to evolve if it had gone on longer, and I think it probably would have turned into what ROH was in the 2000s.
Yeah wwf and WCW even at its peak was disliked for its violence and sexual content. Raw would regularly get bumped for the dog show despite it not doing as well as wrestling. So ECW who reveled in that level of content stood no chance surviving as it was. Which made Heyman constantly challenging TNN incredibly dumb.
It is weird they pretty much never talked about his indy work after the original ECW or his brief time in TNA. They just immediately jumped from 2001 to 2006.
How was The Solomonster able to record the audio that we hear around 25:57-32:18, exactly?... Also, what's up with how The Solomonster sounds in the beginning of this interview that he did with Tim Arson?...
I'm sorry, the Shannon Tweed Reference caught me off guard. Did not expect that today. This was not a bad episode, Sandman was always my favorite ECW Wrestler. The Crucifix Angle got me grounded for a month from watching wrestling and my action figures taken away.
this was an amazing episode of dark side of the ring the sandman was awesome in ECW the fact that he came out to enter sandman by Metallica is badass especially his entrance at ECW one night stand 2005 I'm so glad solomonster mentioned it that still gives me Chills the here lizard lizard story cracks me up I'm glad they mentioned his feud with raven in 1996 the crucifixion angle was crazy my all-time favorite story was when raven said on the forever hardcore documentary why didn't you put him on a jewish star well it would've rolled away just the delivery makes me laugh i absolutely loved tommy dreamer's feud with sandman in 1994 that was great stuff i really enjoyed this episode.
You gotta love that Shannon Tweed reference. If he had mentioned Red Shoe Diaries that would of been funny too. That would of been a Showtime reference though.
Solo is right. That WWE-ECW failed because it was that. E C W. If it was anything else, it more likely would've worked. Sure, there is some nice moments in WWE=ECW. But it was doomed to fail, as it'd never match what made ECW, ECW. It gave birth to careers of Sheamus, Kofi, Punk, even Jack Swagger. Along with having good champions like Chavo, John Morrison, Kane. Even Christian and Matt Hardy had good runs. But it was only gonna go down hill cause it had the name ECW.
@@OdysseySarma instead of re using the name come up with new ideas thats what the wrestling world needs look at aew there basically doing a nwo 3.0 for some reason even tna had there own version of nwo why are they still doing this
Sandman on steroids was like Homer Simpsons on steroids, satirizing rest of locker room...Children are used as props in too much old children theater. Many children experience violence in childhood and rass'l relentlessly blurs those line, gotta hold it against victim playing carny bookers.
I love Kurt Angle, but he's gotta understand that he doesn't get to shove his religious views down other people's throats, nor does he have the right to not be offended or to tell people that they can't say or do anything against his religion.
At what point did he shove his beliefs down anybody’s throat? He told him not to associate his name with something that even their own audience found offensive enough they went silent and led to apologizing to the audience while Heyman had him say that it was done without his knowledge. Maybe if you’re going to do something like that you disclose it to somebody making a first appearance on your show and then they can choose whether to appear or not. He can’t force your belief but he does have a choice what to associate his name and reputation with but I don’t expect you to grasp that concept
As a Christian myself, I honestly do not blame Kurt Angle for walking away from ECW. There are some things that you just don't do, and that was one of them. ECW going out of business was inevitable. It's funny how Paul Heyman compared them to Grunge music because, just like that genre, ECW was a fade in the 90s. No disrespect to them, but it wouldn't last forever even with the TV rights deal. Outside of One Night Stand 05, the rest of WWECW was ridiculous. One Night Stand 06 was mediocre & December to Dismember 06 was horrible. On the bright side, I'm glad Sandman is doing better these days. Also, RIP Zombie 🙏
The Sandman's entrance is the reason I started watching ECW.
My favorite part of this is when he talks about the crucifixion and how Stevie Richards was saying “This is F’d up.”
Sandman is like “SHUT THE FUCK UP STEVIE! THIS IS PERFECT!”
You posted this during my last hour at work. Thanks for giving me something to listen to. You tha goat Solomonster.
Work sux dood.
Sandman getting juiced just for WCW is wild 😂😂😂😂 great episode too

Stealing this for my new create a wrestler in WWE 2K. Lol

That One Night Stand Entrance is legendary

I heard this in a Stone Cold podcast with Tommy Dreamer.

*The Sandman as a Chip & dale dancer* early on. I did NOT expect THAT to be part of the Sandman saga.
he was also offering his body on the side lol
Sandman's son wrestled for a few years as Twisted Sand and under his real name. He hasn’t had a match since 2014.
Sandman entrance: 10/10
Wrestling: 2/10
Giving 2 is too much😂. Love the sandman but let's be honest he was not even a 2 in the ring.

We used to drive from NJ to see ECW any time we could, but we’d have to stop by Kensington before the show. That went without saying
I love the idea of a random ECW Arena show having Macaulay Culkin show up in a supporting role.
“The latest Shanon Tweed movie ended in Cinemax” 💀
I caught that reference real quick, too 🤣
I recently watched this episode of 'The Dark Side Of The Ring'.

I'm surprised The Sandman hasn't gotten inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, yet as an ECW Original.

Not sure if 'Wish Surfer Sting' or 'caught ECW at 3 am on MSG Network after the latest Shannon Tweed movie ended on Cinemax' is the greater comment.😂😅
15:34 Paul Heyman lied? Wow. I didn't know that. You're telling now for the first time.

Love the Shannon Tweed reference ✌️😍😍😍😍
watch Forever Hardcore docu, goes a little deeper with the cross incident, Raven talks about it and so does Sandman a little
They didn’t even mention his time in TNA? He was there for like a year.
Nope, not one mention

the Temu version of Steve Austin 😅😂
Austin stole sandman’s gimmick btw 🤣🤣🤫🐐 goat gimmick the sandman
You need to watch his entrance in 1999 when he returned to ECW from WCW.
The best episode so far all year
It wasn't sweat pants he wore, it was Zubaz pants, like that's better. And he wore Shawn Kemp Reebok shoes to boot, lol.
25:57 I wish Tim arson would have more matches ask the zombie in ECW
Fun fact, I was born on the same day as Tyler, same year and everything lol
Don't diss the Sandman
If you think about it say man hit so many people with that cane maybe he did take an eyeball out and people just forgot about
I'm still waiting for that Godzilla sequel.
One time I was at a show and I got to slap sandman’s arm and he felt like a dolphin
Did not know about the Dv stuff😢
Shannon Tweed lmao 😍
Crazy they did not mentioned the lsd story in this episode.
The Zombie for the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame!
Sandman the man who almost deprived us of Kurt Angle oh its true imagine a wrestling Angle being to extreme for ECW it must of been extreme
What’s the over/under on how much money Heyman owes Sandman’s kid? 😂
I just hope Sandman and DDP got paid for having their gimmicks "borrowed"
If you was a non wrestling fan and heard any classic wrestling story you would think the person telling it was ribbing you there absolutely crazy
good review
His body was great for how much he drank
Amazing episode
Yeah this episode did feel incomplete... It was basically a biography type feel, there wasnt that much dark stuff 😂
