It’s all about the right board for the right wave. I ride anything from a 6’5 to a 9’8 and I’m 6’4, 225 pounds. Depends of wave height and power for which board I ride. Longboarding really helped me develop style and get rid of poop stance. Most importantly Have fun out there. Yew !!!
Haha young fella you have inspired an old dog like Me to have a go surfing lol , looks like so much fun , but short boards just wouldn’t cut it for a unsteady older guy like me . Loved your video , awesome . 👍
Thanks for sharing your progression with surfing and showing how you work down from a longboard to something slightly shorter to actually getting to a shortboard I'm on my journey from wanting to work my way down from all soft top and longboards to eventually being a Cherbourg Surfer myself, thanks for sharing.
@@jackz2444 dam your lucky any brand name board in Australia these days are over $1000 depending on the brand etc. I was lucky to have for a local shaper made board for $550 n they are up to $700 now AUD
In 3 weeks Im going on my first surf camp!!! Im soo hyped!! I have always been land locked in the Netherlands without mountains to snowboard on or waves to surf... everything is flat over here
I have always watched your videos and loved watchng your skating and surfboarding vids because they are all my interests, but you have been my main inspiration for the snowboarding, i am in england and the closest snozone is two hours away, so im riding like once (twice if im lucky a wekk, been boarding for like a month and a half and your vids got me already 360 stalfishing and front and back boardslides! keep it up bro!!
The F***ng Oslo Haha my first board was a brand new $800 CI... After my first sesh it already huge dents and dings, I even duck dived into the reef lol
One day you guys will look at other's happiness and feel good for them. You will wish them good health and happy days, with experiences that make them happy as well. You will start wishing that people enjoy the things that they have, rather than being bitter and salty because you can't have them yourself. This kid has worked hard for where he is at. Remember, you are watching HIS videos. Good day.
I missed you my dude! sad thing is I snapped my surfboard on saturday :(. Now i have to wait until it is fixed and i have a surf comp next weekend :( :(. Cool to see you back tho! and i think the reason that the 5'9 caught as much as your 6'10 is because of volume, 30.1L is a lot of volume for a 5'9 which will help a lot for paddling onto waves. Ur surfing is improving tho.
I'm tryna transition from 8' longboard to shortboard. Is a 6'10" or 6'6" fish a good transitioning board where I won't regret getting a board that's too hard or too easy?
how much do you weigh??? I gotta say im shocked to hear as a beginner you have a 30 ltr board, you got some pretty big balls, I always thought it was crazy that I learned on a 6'0 softec and that was 48 lts lol
Hey man, how long did you ride your longboard before making the transition to a fish. I just started surfing and I'm feeling pretty comfortable on the longboard and I know a shortboard will probably be too big of a jump for me. Thanks!
As a rule of thumb, I always wait til conditions are optimal to take a brand new board out. I'm sure that board would go way better when the waves are steeper and more powerful
hey the wizard boy is back. Dear saucerer you seem to have roamed a nice portion of this realm snowboarding, and now ride the hoolabajoo through the waves. Me and my wifey 4 lifey are looking to spend a year or two somewhere you can snowboard and surf, I know new Zeland is one place where that is possible, but if there was one place in the world you would pick where would you go?
ian casizzi Definitely Chile! Amazing surf and awesome snow. Spain and France also have the goods for both surf and snow. Aus is good to, especially for the surf (though the snow is not that great by world standards).
David you should try skimboarding! I think you’d be able to enjoy smaller waves better and you could try some shick tricks my dude Also hurry up and re-guccify everything bro everything so plane
i have a tip for your surfing
don't paddle to the bottom of the wave
paddle and as soon as you feel the push pop up
Exactly
Well thx for the tip I know it was for him but thx because I paddle to the bottom
Yessir
I’m pro
kooks huh

love to see your joy for surfing bro. im learning as well and i feel like im about to buy a fish/short board
Bryant Irawan I am in the exact same position as u but in the process of getting a custom board
Buy a longer and ticker fish
Y’all should think about getting a used board first instead of buying a expensive new board. If your starting out
Get a longer board to get the feel of popping up on a board
I just started yesterday and man am I bad I can’t stand yet lol

That shot of the fins, grass, sky, is really good. Advertising material.
spit in your gopro lens to keep the water droplets off the screen (;
A pyzel for a beginner? I'm here counting pennies and dimes to save for a foamie 😭
Buy a wave storm, 20 bucks and the more water logged the bayer they surf.

Sweet video bro, think imma get my first short board this summer
Dope camera angles and music and very nice skills man good job
you have to ride for more time a bigger board to feel and read better the wave, then you can step to that one easily cause your skill is not bad ;)
ohh ill see you around te arai bro!! i always go there with my 8ft board.
Yew! Awesome vid! Think I’ve seen you at Orewa skatepark before, would love to skate or surf with you one time!
Try to be a bit further up the board when paddling so the nose of the board is just out the water🤙

Isaac Morris yo bro you know a good shortboard to buy for a beginner I’ve been on my 6,6 foam board for a while now think it’s time I step it up
@davidsjones
I'm in your exact same position. I'm moving down from a performance longboard to a shortboard.
Your new board is more of a grovler than the last one. Grovlers are usually a couple inches shorter and wider than a normal performance shortboard
Them drawings are lit boiiiiii
Yes So glad your back!
Me too!! :D
were do you live the ocean looks beautiful
Woah dude just found your channel, how do you not have more subs n likes
*has never had a shortboard*
*buys a pyzel*

Heck yeah brother! You’re gonna be ripping on that in no time
Very cool music and what band is it?
Do you live at new port or some where near there
yay hello welcome back mister jones
I know it seems wierd but of you lick the GoPro lens before using it it stops water droplets forming due to the layer of siliva on the lens
Nice work man. You gotta lick the GoPro lens tho to get rid of the water spots
When you heading down to wanaka for the winter?
You live in New Zealand??
Damn, what’s the water temp there

same question here 2 years latee
Wait wait wait, are you from New Zealand? This spot seems to be so familiar to forestry north of Auckland
ye its on the east coast of the north island
Just checking you are New Zealandish right.
What is the song while you're doing the pov
So fresh!!

I live in Tennessee but I still have a surfboard 😂😂🤙
Try it as a quad when it’s waist high or less so fast thruster when it’s bigger to rip.

hey david, it might be easier to pop up on your surfboard if you move up further. Try to keep your nose about 4-5 cm out of the water
Right before you stand up on the top of the wave push the front down so you catch the wave easily but don’t push to hard or you’ll nose dive
Let’s be real he has definitely surfed a shortboard
you should come to California some time!!
LETS GO DAVID
We’re did u get your board from? As in like, what store?
Little tip to not have the camera have water dots on it is too lick it😂 I’m being serious if u lick it no water droplets form
Was that St Perrie’s Sushi’s?
I wish I could surf it looks so fun but I live in Colorado

U only duck dive when the wave is white wash
im using my brother's shortboard and im going now to my second ever time surfing and i dont want to spend on a new long
Your so close to 100k
I got a 5’9 Channel Islands “the sampler” also got the same fins as u
Can you play *Home- Happy life* in your videos? It's really good music and I hope you listen and maybe put it in your videos.
