THANK YOU!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! Ann Lowe is my favorite. When I was in designing school I did a report on Ann Lowe and I got a copy of an article from Ebony Magazine, LOVE IT!!!! Macy's down the street from my school had a paper dress of Ann Lowe Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding dress!!! It was BEAUTIFUL!!!! I wanted to touch the paper dress, but the security guard gave me the "LOOK" of not 🚫 to touch the dress. I also went to the Field Museum to see more beautiful garments that Jacqueline Kennedy owned. Please keep up the amazing work 💪👍😊 Robin N Otis-Clayborne. P S report on Patrick Kelly ❤
Excellent addition and evolution to your content Zoe! You truly have what it takes to grow professionally and to bring to your audience the many perspectives, colors, and vantage points of design, style and good ole reality.
Creatives brains don’t see numbers the way we see other stuff…poor Yve and Ann Lowe is an example of “Just Keep Swimming”….i love her and all her work.
I am definitely a fan. I'm about to go on a rabbit hole tonight to learn more about Ann Lowe., because she's great. And you're great. as always. And Thank you Zoe.
I have never seen this design or designer so fascinating. Im going to revisit this in the future. Thank you for sharing this with us! And a comment for the algorithm.
Thank you! I am embarrassed to admit I never gave any thought to Fashion designers of color. And yes, this absolutely should be made into a movie! I will be looking for books about her life and designs. Edit: 8 books on one search on Amazon!
These dresses are magnificent. Thank you for sharing the work of this incredibly talented genius! This is not my favorite period for fashion, yet there isn't a single piece shown here that I would not gladly, proudly, wear. (If I could get into those debutante waistlines, which ain't happening.) I appreciate the work you put into this video, thank you so much. Will be checking out your channel and other videos from you.
The dress in the thumbnail is literally on my pinterest board for wedding dress inspiration! It prompted me to start learning about Ann Lowe and I'm glad to learn some more!
This was wonderful! I knew a little bit about Ann Lowe’s career but I learned some new things about her life in this video. I would love to see a video about Ruby Bailey, Zelda Wynn Valdez or Patrick Kelly.
This was amazing!! I’m so glad you did this video I’ve learned so much about another black designer that I’ve never heard of. From her I will perfect my craft and no matter what comes my way, never give up.
Oh I love this! Please do one about Willly Smith! The only African American designer I was privileged to meet in San Francisco at Joseph Magnun the twin brother to I Magnum I grew up in San Francisco and their stores were across the street from each other! What a time!❤❤❤🥰😘
I'd heard of Anne Lowe as the designer of Jackie's wedding dress, and also the quote about her target customer, but had never seen any of her other dresses. Absolutely STUNNING work. Thank you for this video.
Records were good as long as you were not a person of black descent. We regularly as black people were denied birth certificates, correct name spelling on official documents etc. my family is from Alabama and the things I could tell you about how we were purposefully erased from history for hundreds of years after slavery.
Thank you so much!!! I am thrilled you're making this series. I've run across footnotes that said Jackie O's favorite designer was Black. yet that was the only info I had & regarded them as mere rumors. I also remember hearing of a different Black woman who designed for another first lady during antebellium. Anne Lowe's family reminds me of Princess & The Frog as Eudora, Princess Tiana's mother, made dresses for rich families. Now I'm bummed that Tiana wanted to be a cook instead of a seamstress. I'm dealing sending this to my 12 yr old neice who wants to be a fashion designer. Edit: I know there weren't any designers for slaves, but I've always been curious as to what enslaved people wore during antebellium. I asked my favorite professor during history of costume & her response was slavery existed throughout the world. America wasn't the only place that had slavery. I've only found bits & pieces of information over the years
What a great story of perseverance and triumph, thanks for this video Zoe Hong! By the way as a Gay man myself I will jokingly say that it was a closeted man who stole that carnation from the dress, Lol!
This was so awesome and inspirational!! Thank you so much for sharing and your willingness to create a series showcasing Black Contributions to fashion!! Looking forward to learning more!♥️♥️♥️
Thank you for this series! I was watching a documentary on top fashion designers recently and thought "I wonder who they've forgotten to add", from there I found more of the Willi Smith's, Anne Lowe's and Elizabeth Keckley's but I wish I could find more Black fashion designers to reference and pictures of their work.
When we see pictures of dresses from that period of time, usually the finishings are kinda terrible for the standard we are used to now, with all the machinery we have. But this lady is impecable, you just cant pinpoint one flaw in her dresses. Also I was sad when you said how they cut half of her course, as much talented as she was, they could continue to explore her talents, fashion is a skill you can develop continuously. I'm pretty sure they cut her because of racism.
I utterly hate how my physical health limits my aspirations. She is so very inspiring and I imagine myself starting my own companies, but I just won't ever be able to do that :( - yes I relate to undervaluing myself as well haha
That lack of recognition over the wedding was purposeful. America continues to ignore or gloss over the contributions of its black citizens and other people of color. Back then, and now, you don’t exist for some people if you are not whyte. The recognition she got was a miracle.
Thank you for making this video. I'm always wanting to learn about the lesser known designers. Nor am I surprised that some of the most talented people are minorities and not celebrated as they should be. Growing up, I used to sneak into my mother's co set to check out the older clothes. Most of them were bought in the "better dresses" department. They were made from gorgeous fabric and lined. Also with them came undergarments that added to the shape and form. They were beautiful and some she brought with her from Korea. These classism ties went from the 40s to early 70s. Looking at these dresses brought back some of those memories. Not sure what happened but in 1973 she turned into a hideous polyester freak! Still hasn't recovered from it. These days she is 107 and into the most hideous of Asian Grandma looks from hell. Its as if she is trying to win a hideous contest. My youngest daughter tries to get my mother updated in looks, which would be Goth granny.

The picture you used for the thumbnail is literally one of my all-time favorite dresses ever, I'm in love with it!
I appreciate the way you tell her story with such passion
I would love to see a video about Elizabeth Kleckley, who designed dresses for Mary Todd Lincoln.
Yes! I knew there was another Black woman who designed for another president. Thank you, I couldn't conjure any details, lol.
Her work is STUNNING! I loved all the different ways she incorporates the flowers in her designs and you can see how skilled she was
Creatives brains don’t see numbers the way we see other stuff…poor Yve and Ann Lowe is an example of “Just Keep Swimming”….i love her and all her work.
This was wonderfully presented. Ann Lowe's work is amazing and timeless. Thank you for sharing, I look forward to the next designer.❤

Stunning dresses….like fairy tales…I got really impressed of the silk/ guipure dress at 12:22, better than any royal wedding dress I’ve ever seen ❤

Wow thank you for this series ❤❤❤
Imagine the reaction of Schiaparelli seeing those ABSOLUTELY PERFECT fabric flowers.
This was fantastic to learn! Thank u!
Thanks for highlighting the contributions of Black folks 🎉❤
They were called the “Citrus Barons” those people in Tampa and Florida who made money off citrus..

okay but for real “someone make this movie and hire my as the costume design” plzzzzz i beg a studio to do this

A bummer she retired a year before the first Met Gala. She would have killed it.

You should team up with Charelese Antoinette the costume designer for Air and Black Messiah
Lets talk about it.
Very interesting ❤but...I thought it was about Black dresses😂
Looks like, she could give YSL a run for his money
