The second generation farmer here(20 years old) I love this type of content. I'm also in college for a trade and I'm going to carry on with this farming that my father started. I look forward to meeting farmers who are ahead in the game. It's inspiring. This is the first video I've seen and you've just gained a subscriber
Yes the breeds do serve very similar purposes and are both excellent breeds for the Southern African climate, it has been stipulated that had Professor Jan Bonsma, the founder of Bonsmara, had access to Angus and Brahman genetics at the time of his research, the bonsmara may have been a different composition, however the Afrikaner, shorthorn and Hereford were more commonly available at the time.
The Brangus breed is 5/8ths Angus and 3/8ths Brahman, I think in colder climates like in Canada a 100% Angus animal would do better than Brangus, the Brahman genetics are brought in to help with heat tolerance and parasites that are prevalent in our area
@@andrewunsworth1365 thanks… winters here are typically around -10 to -20°C. But there can be short cold snaps for one or three days in January/February of -40°C. An Angus X Hereford manages well. I select for winter coat.
Brangus meat is very similar to Angus, in certain countries Brangus beef can be sold under the Angus label due to the breed being 5/8ths Angus and only 3/8ths Brahman
