Yes, he did the beatboxing. And produced all the beats. And wrote all the lyrics. And rapped in all those different cadences (when does he breathe!?) to create this stitched-together Frankenstein song of different styles. And then, when you're done marveling at that, go back and realize he performed the whole video in one take.
Awesome reaction. I like the fact that you're honest enough to admit to your limited understanding due to the accent (that got a sub out of me)...yet you still caught a lot. I also loved your nod to Knox Hill...he certainly is good at what he does...butyou should also shout out #blackpegasus...NOBODY gives out more love to Ren than this guy (he seems to introduce every guest he has on to the mind bending genre that is Ren) Keep it up
Once it occurred to me that Ren's work is 100% intentional and that he does pretty much everything in terms of production, etc., my mind was 100% blown. If you hear it, he meant for it to be there and made it happen. He's a once in a generation, maybe in a lifetime talent. And I thoroughly enjoy digging into his music with you!
Been on Ren for about a month now. I went from Hi ren to this and I was like no F'n way. and now here I am just binge watching reactions. Ren brings everyone together.
I’ve never seen a musician seamlessly play the guitar so well(like with The Big Push) and rap like this, and make me feel so understood like Hi Ren, and make me feel his pain like Chalk outlines and tell a story like Jenny and Screech. He’s possibly the most talented all round musician I’ve ever seen…
It only GETS BETTER BRO!! lol im an 80s baby but his ACOUSTIC SHIT IS CRAZY!!!! Congrats for finding him!!😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 😂 ENJOY BECOMING A “RENEGADE” imagine if Eminem could fucking sing like Freddy mercury!!!
Multiple call backs to Hi Ren too. “The pendulum” and “bleak is where I rose to my feet”. Another fave of mine. He literally made a Frankenstein with the different flows 🖤
Ren raps melodies. A skill you can only do if you're a great vocalist AND a great rapper. THEN add lyrics, acting, finding a great set, writing your own beats, ...fire.
Another requirement may be being Welsh. It's such a melodic/musical language and accent. The other Welsh people in my life (who've spent most of their lives in Australia) have a wonderfully melodic way of speaking Aussie English, even when they try to mask it. I know Ren gets lots of "questions" about his accent being either fake or a confusing combination of accents, but Welsh has an accent that is "additive" and easily absorbs other accents. The background Welsh musical accent is always there; but you can hear everywhere they've lived, plus the accents of everyone important to them, all layered over that Welsh base. Good friend has been in Australia since he was 2 years old, always gets asked where he's from because his accent isn't typically Australian, especially within the remote part of Australia where he's spent 43yrs of his life. However, when he went back to Wales to visit, he also wasn't accepted as anything close to Welsh, because he sounded way too Australian, with a bit of Scouse since he had a good friend from that part of England.😂
Swallow the flow like a “Toblerone” is a European chocolate bar. He uses a lot of British/European references as well as movie titles. So not only does he have a sick flow, but some of the European references may not be super familiar to everyone. I love watching how much you enjoy his endless creativity and talents.
It's even deeper: if you look at Toblerone it looks like a Beat. You know, the Peaks. So his flow is a Beat in itself. As a Swiss i got this the first listen :D
I love this so much! He puts the lyrics in the description or comments, but you are doing it the way we used to have to learn shit on the radio! Recording it on cassette, then rewinding a million times to catch it all! Love it!
I loved your take and your determination to take it all in! I loved the play. Pause rewind. Play. Pause. Rewind!! Seriously. Some people don’t like when reactors pause it but you were very consistent and pausing it means you are appreciative of what you are hearing. So keep doing it how you do. You are definitely not xactly where you were meant to be. Congratulations man!
Great reaction! I love how you referenced Knox and plugged his expertise in breakdowns. Just like your expertise in vocals and voice. TH-camrs that lift each other up and help each other are the ones I wish the most success to. You're both great for different reasons as far as I am concerned.
He's the breakdown goat we all would be kidding ourselves to think otherwise lol I catch alot to but he's literally the one I would be like " ok let me see what I missed and go in knox channel" lol
I'm not normally a rap fan, or even a hip hop fan, but somehow Ren makes me like it all. One thing I really appreciate about him is how clearly he enunciates, even when he's cranked the speed up to a ridiculous pace.
For me, it's because he has a UK accent. So much of American rap is lost on me, simply because I can't tell what's being said. Then, when I look up what's being said I can't understand the patter! With Ren (and in the old days Scroobius Pip) I can hear almost every word on the first listen. And it all makes sense!
This was the song that first introduced me to Rap Ren and I was blown away 🤯 The further you go into the Ren Rabbithole the better it gets. He is a walking, spitting Thesaurus with bars for days. Love your reactions so much, because you really get enthusiastic about the songs 🫶🏻
@@vickyterry3150 yeah, Knox is fire - and I can’t understand the people who get mad and say he’s faking or heard the track already! Lol! Yeah I can’t imagine anyone could check this track out on stream and forget about it. It’s pure fire! Ren is flexing the hell out of this. One of my favourites. Only problem is that it’s too short when you put it on repeat 😅 It’s probably already been mentioned but Ren usually posts the lyrics as a pinned comment if you want to check what you missed. Lol 😂😂😂 I wanna see if Knox fought it all. You and Ren both!!! Watching Ren watch Knox react to Illiest of Our Time on release day and telling his mates to hang on cos he just wanted to see if knox caught a couple of specific bars was fun as was his pleasure whe Knox didn’t let him down! 😂 loving your reaction so relatable to us mere mortals. Great reaction Nick, he does everything bar the filming as far as I know definitely the beatboxing, all the shouts and noises he is a complete instrument 🙂 - we'd love to know what you thought if you went back and looked at Knox Hill's reaction (as we have), Ren himself has commented in his live twitch that Knox gets everything (generally) catches every nuance he has put in (in respect of his reaction to Illest of our time) - we're loving all this ! I got everything he said. I grew up in England and even now I live stateside I haven't lost the ear for the speech. Primark is a hilarious mention cuz it's a well known clothes shop in England. Toblerone you can buy at Target lol. I hope Ren does get bigger and bigger, and people know his name. So I don't hear that all English music is just Rolling Stones, Beatles and Queen. The UK has always pumped out talent and Ren is no exception. Check out the UK Grime scene, lots of talented rappers in that genre, massive rabbit hole there. Great reaction too man, cheers! 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

I counted 11 cadences, could be more though as there were a few transitional ones too, a true Monster of a track in all senses.
Not sure about one take, i saw a video where he slipped on the stones & had to restart 😬
I think Ren said he could hold his breath for 3 minutes. In one of his old IG videos during lockdown.
