Imam Siraj is indeed a legend. A brave man. He did remarkable thing. He and his team cleaned neighborhood from drugs. May Allah put baraka in all his speeches, teachings and talks. May Allah grant his kids and family steadfastness on the straight path. May Allah grant him forgiveness and Jannatul Firdows
I used to listen to imam sirajh wahhaj cassettes and attend his lectures in the 90s. His voice and energy still reverberate in my mind. "turn the tv off!"
I too had my Islamic upbringing under the late Honorable Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. Like brother Imam Siraj, I too left that Jamaat, but I have learned to appreciate him even more and would like for Muslims outside of that Jamaat to appreciate him for the growth of Al-Islam in America. For instance, many Muslims, especially Immigrant Muslims in this country enjoy the luxury of having multiple Zabihah Halaal restaurants and supermarkets, but it was the then Nation of Islam under Imam Mohammed who introduced America to the concept of Halaal and Zabihah from the already established businesses and farms set up by his father, the "Honorable" Supreme Minister Elijah Muhammad. Through then Masjid Muhammad #25 in Newark NJ, particular Brother Akbar Salaam, the state of New Jersey became the first state in the union to pass the Halaal Law, where it became illegal for non-Muslims to claim that meats and food products are Zabihah and/or Halaal and only Muslims can legally declare such. Prior to 1975, the halaal business was unknown compared to the kashrut (kosher) industry. After 1975 became the other way around. Muslims enjoy having their own schools, but they wouldn't have enjoyed the luxury had it not been for the sacrifices of the Teachers and Students of the Muhammad University of Islam (which was renamed Sister Clara Muhammad School under WD Mohammed). The states of Illinois and Michigan were constantly harassing the brothers and sisters by raiding and arresting the teachers and students and attempting to force them to attend public schools, which masha'Allah they failed, due to the courage and way they stood up to the powers that be. We now see Muslims in politics, even in Congress, but it was this community who spearheaded the importance of Muslims to register to vote and get involved to improve the conditions of American society.

The internal racism, dear Shaykh mentioned is something which I can personally relate to. And we need lot of cleaning up to do in our communities, to truly love one another for sake of Allah. Looking forward to Part 2. And looking to meet Shaykh Imam Siraj in person someday. Otherwise may Allah gather us all in jannatul firdaus with the best of best companions.
