This book has just been given to me as a christmas present- and it is breathtakingly beautiful! The packaging and enclosed box are beautiful in themselves. When I opened those, I found an amazing portfolio- limited edition - of incredible illustrations that appear in the book. The book itself is gloriously illustrated. As a long time collector of Rubiyats of Omar el Khayam and the variously illustrated editions- this gift is a glorious addition to my Arabian Nights art passion. It is my new treasure!
Got my copy today the book is a absolute work of art,the color-detail and the quality of this book is so luxurious and high end...The 21 plates our so colorful and vibrant...it’s a treasure for sure
Hello Pontus, Thank you for the presentation. It looks like a beautiful edition, however, with so much focus on illustrations and the artistic side of it, I have difficulties to establish whether it contains the unabridged tales as well. Could you please let me know? Thank you and best regards
Thanks for the review! I've been eyeing on it since it's published but the price is a bit much for me. But they have a sale right now and I finally bit the bullet and placed the order! Can't wait to receive it and open it!
This is beautiful but the term "limited edition" is being abused too much these days. Five thousand is hardly that limited. This is great for availability, but the label "limited edition" allows for a higher asking price.
Hey Pontus Presents. Could you tell me what the Story is called in the picture at 9:50? That would be so nice. I've been looking for an answer for a long time. Best regards.
I can see that you are a fan of both Taschen and Buddhism. Have you heard of their new book "Murals of Tibet"? It is amazing! Tibetan art, of course, is extraordinarily ornate and mystical. And it is sumptuously printed with gold ink as well. I want it. But I have a $12.000 problem. It comes in a Sumo version, two books and a wooden table. I was quite shocked that they actually sell the book package plus a large art reproduction of the cover art. It cost a whopping $45.000. AND IT WAS SOLD OUT!!! I mean who buys these things??? My question for you: Do you think that Taschen will make a smaller version of this book? I own a few Taschen books myself but I still can't figure out their system. They have incredibly large and exclusive titles but they don't print a smaller version (notably the Ferrari book). While some titles did have some. Some titles even have multiple version: The XXL, XL, even down to a pocket size book. Like this Kay Nielsen 1001 title, The Murals of Tibet is limited print run. Only 1000 copies. 998 of them was personally signed by HH the Dalai Lama. While I applaud this strategy, it also raises the price considerably because now, the book is a rare gem. I just want the two books in moderately large size. I don't even want the table it comes with. Do you think there's a possibility?
I have thought of the exact same thing! I can contact my Taschen insiders (i.e. costumer support) and ask, but I don't really expect them to reveal the information. But if they do, I'll get back to you immediately! Taschen is very popular all around the world and they have collaborated with tons of influential and important people over the years. Their reputation is great and therefor their books (especially limited editions) are seen as something quite . . . extravagant. Coffee table books (for the aesthetic value) are also very popular among the "higher-ups" in society, so it doesn't surprise me that they can manage to sell their books for thousands of dollars (i.e. things like rarities in form of Murals of Tibet). :-)
@@PontusPresents Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I doubt we could get that information from the customer service. But if you did, please let me know. As I said, I don't quite grasp their strategy on publishing smaller versions of an extremely large title. Some have them (like the popular fine art) and yet others don't (quite surprised that something as popular as Valentino doesn't have it). I kinda think that is due to the number of sale of the large version (maybe). If they think that it's a popular theme, they'll make other sizes or turn it into a Bibliotheca Universalis. Murals of Tibet was launched last year. In Taschen stores, they display the book quite prominently on the window shops. They still have plenty of the $12.000 and a few lefts of the Book + Green Tara print. I was wondering: Do they wait until the $12.000 is about to sell out and then print a smaller version. How long that would take. Gosh, I just hope that when they do have a smaller version of this, that it wouldn't be too high a price. This Kay Nielsen's 1001 for example, is still quite high only because the content is quite thin. There are only a dozen or so of the individual prints and the book (gorgeous as it is) only covers the 1001 Nights. I was kinda hoping for complete works of Kay Nielsen. Then it would be worth $300. (I've never sent that much money on a single book, so please excuse my "cheapness"). Oh, one more point about the Murals of Tibet. I'm a tiny bit disappointed that it covers only on the murals and not including the thangkas. Some of the photographs I've seen of the book content focuses too much on the "unimportant" part of the artwork such as the yogi and the tantric practices poses. While I am more enchanted by the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas images. But that is personal preference. Sorry for my long ramblings.
I got this answer from them: “It does tend to be the case that TASCHEN publishes a non-limited (and therefore lower priced) version of Collector's Edition titles years after publication. At present however there are no set in stone plans to print a non-limited edition of the Murals of Tibet edition, therefore we cannot provide an expected release date.”
@@PontusPresents Wow, I didn't expect you to actually email them to ask on our behalf. Thank you!!! Well, I have to say that the non-answer is as I expected. I guess we just have to wait and see about the book. Again, thank you. I'm glad that I have someone to talk to about this matter.
remsan03 actually Kay Nielsen 1001 nights contains the complete watercolor set..there 21 prints in this set, which is amazing for this set..and the book is of very high quality it’s so worth the 300 dollar price tag...
Do you know what type of paper they used in the companion book..I don’t think it’s acid free paper because I had to buy white glove so smears from my hand wouldn’t get on the book have you notice that....

From which website you usually buy the Folio Society books?
Either the Folio Society website, Ardis bookshop or Ebay!

Hey there - the image you are talking about is for the story “The Tale of the Third Old Man”. Hope that helps 😃
Who was in charge of the translation?

What the approximate weight?
you need a better camera or the lighting??????
too blurry
focus off a bit when showing the images
Please fix your focus on these images, really a shame, not to see this clearly and the details?????
very poorly done, great subject, yet your filming leaves much to be desired, sorry such a shame with such a beautiful book
