  • Roman Candle™ Podocarpus - Variegated Upright Narrow Screening Plant - In this video I go over Roman Candle™ Podocarpus from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This is a beautiful upright narrow evergreen shrub that can be used as a screening or container plant. It has variegated foliage and is resistant to pest and deer.

    I need more evergreens in my front yard, this might be the winner.

      Jim, are you familiar with a product called Root Blast? If so, what’s your opinion of it?

    Striking! But I’m guessing dappled shade would be best in Central Texas

    Thanks Jim. If I wanted to do a tight podocarpus privacy screen between myself and a neighbor how far apart should I plant?

    Don't know if you respond to comments but can you recommend a similar looking tree for zone 6? I'm in CT, higher elevation. It does get windy.

    Could this be a foundation plant? Just watched some of your other videos and realized that the house I moved into has both Ligustrum and Chindo Viburnum planted right up against the house, all the way around, which you advised against. Also could those ligustrums, and viburnums be transplanted elsewhere? They are around six years old. Thanks in advance. Love your videos, so very helpful!

      Yes, it would make a great corner piece.

    Thank you for the great video, Jim! What's the annual growth rate of this Roman Candle Podocarpus?

    • @JimPutnam
      @JimPutnam  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slow the first couple of years and then maybe a foot a year. More if it's happy

    What’s the reason this needs to be full sun? What will happen if it’s in partial shade?

    • @JimPutnam
      @JimPutnam  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will be thinner reaching for the light. Probably needs some direct sun every day

      I have my podocarpus 'Roman Candle' growing in dappled shade. It's dense, robust, and healthy with beautiful color in the variegation.

      This one is so new that it is in short supply. I think it will a lot more available in 2021. Try Plantsbymail
