I love when Damien talks about this stuff. I feel like neurodivergent people don't talk about it that much and you often feel like you're on your own with that stuff
Damien describing his fear of being misunderstood is literally on point to my personal experience with growing up with autism I swear, he’s so good at describing things- him having autism makes so much sense now.
I relate to Damien's fears of being misunderstood so much. As a kid, some people would get really angry at me where I really couldn't understand why. It always stuck with me.
The biggest thing I had to learn was that it’s my responsibility to do my best to communicate well with someone, but it’s their responsibility to tell me if they’re upset. That boundary saved my sanity.
@@jenklassen3233 This is exactly how I see it, if you feel uncomfortable or angry at something I said, just EXPLAIN WHY WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY YELLING AT ME! LOL!
Same. I grew up undiagnosed autistic and every day was just no one understanding me and me not understanding why. And I would have meltdowns and a lot of the time caused by my own mother having a meltdown. And yet I was always labeled the monster child. My family had jokes about me exploding and when I tried to explain why they just told me "nah you just got anger issues duh."
Last year I found out someone who I genuinely thought was my friend has actually always been super uncomfy around me and I sobbed 🫠 They never said anything and social cues aren’t always my strong point so I had no idea until somebody else told me.
Every time I see and learn more about Damien I’m like, damn, this is a legit cool guy. I mean this as a compliment: He absolutely reeks of years of therapy in the best way. Someone who has gone through and learned so much about themself and how to convey themself clearly. Plus? Funny af.
I know, right? I don't want to sound parasocial but I love him and know we'd be great friends in real life 😅. He's so precious, he reminds me of a good friend of mine so that's probably why I keep feeling love for him.
I think Damien is genuinely the funniest person in the group in terms of straight up jokes, maybe other than Tommy. The others are funny in their own ways, but Damien just kills me with like a single well timed sentence all the time.

Maybe not the same, but this is kinda why I ALWAYS go for the "last item on the shelf" when shopping. Maybe it's the last donut or the last laundry detergent, but I snatch it up because I don't want it to be left alone. Or maybe I'm just too empathetic??
I have a question. Is this like specified for those types of conditions, I often catch myself mirror friends online and in person but I panic and don't know what to do when two different friends I act totally different around come together cause idk what to do.
@KoiSplash-wk5tm This sounds like a potentially amazing situation. You'd either have to be yourself, or you'd have to choose one of their personalities to copy, and hopefully that would lead to a comical situation. On the other hand, it could make you seem ingenuine to at least one of them. It would make for an interesting experiment if nithing else.
@@KoiSplash-wk5tm it's a symptom. mirroring people can often be confused with/infused in code-switching. doing this doesn't necessarily mean you are autistic. i think, to a greater extent, when you are autistic it's very subconscious. or, on the other hand, it can be a love language. autism is a big spectrum. there's a lot of overlap with other neurodivergences.
I always go back to this episode every once in a while because the two horror sentence stories were interesting alone, but having Damien as a guest in this (and anytime) is always a delight.
I opened the SmoshCast and start listening to the second episode, thinking I was safe. Then a whisper came from the pipes; “Your not safe” said the Podcast Stabber.
That's a two sentence horror story right there: Damien was having a great time on the podcast with his friends Shayne and Amanda. Until he told the story of the clown in the attic.
Honestly, I’m with Amanda with “Old Soul” being used as a good thing. Whenever I heard that phrase it was always depicted as “this person has more maturity for their age/more understanding” instead of “Oh, they’re boring”
I've mostly heard people use it to describe kids who like media and fashion from generations before their time, which I guess could go either way depending on one's perspective 😂
Yeah, I was called an old soul a lot. I could have serious conversations with people's parents. I've made friends with people's parents. I've made friends with my parents friends. 😂 Teachers? We're now Facebook friends. Didn't think it was weird to strike up a conversation with the adult woman sitting next to me when our elementary school class went to see a play. I think I was maybe 7. I even said goodbye and thanked her for the conversation. I didn't know that was weird. I get the feeling that a lot of NDs get called old souls. We mirror and aren't afraid to engage with people of any age. I remember reading something that said NDs are social chameleons and I feel like that's incredibly accurate.
Pediatrician here. I can tell a lot about a baby by looking into their eyes. “Old soul” is a beautiful thing; it definitely does not mean boring or weird. To me, old souls will save humanity. They have a deeper understanding and knowledge a collective past and they tap into the universal whole. These souls should be nurtured. 💕🐝💕
It's not meant as an insult, but young people who have the characteristics of an "old soul" usually are overly mature for their age, frequently as a response to childhood trauma. Which is something that young people who are called that often don't realize until they're older.

Damien's "well that's the end of the story i have to" to Amanda's "STOP NOW" is by far my favorite thing in the entire world now and i will be using it 24/7 😭
Time stamp?☺️

We need to unpack the fact that Damien said 40:28 "A subclass of clowns that spec'd into murder" like that's just a typical path all clowns face choose over balloon animals or tightrope.
Its the forbidden path
I mean, JWG was a part of the clown murderer thing. And that's pretty internationally known 🤷🏼♀️
I love that they cut between Amanda talking about how 9/11 is an untouchable topic to Damien still kinda laughing, which in my mind, implies one of them made such a good 9/11 joke that they couldn't keep it in.
We DEFINETLY need an Episode for Creepypasta and especially with Damien, it would be AMAZING
I second this. Who do we need to talk to to make this happen??
This is a great idea
The clown boat joke killed me. I want a movie horror-comedy where they keep thinking they've escaped the clowns, then, like, a tiny door opens an clowns just pour out of a cabinet.
I just picture the scenes in world war z where hundreds of zombies are flooding a city but it's clowns pouring out of a tiny car
That's such a good image, thank you for implanting it in my mind @@sheepmc3295
Amanda saying in front of Damien that DnD is like the biggest joy in her life right now when he's sort of the catalyst for her playing at all is so wholesome. Imagine how good it must feel to bring joy to Amanda's life? haha I love them both so much.
11:08 the neurodivergent mirroring, scripting, and genuine kindness is my fav part of this podcast so far. I LOVE YALL SO MUCH my adhd social worker brain can’t stop loving on all of you
I love when Damien talks about this stuff. I feel like neurodivergent people don't talk about it that much and you often feel like you're on your own with that stuff
Isn't that what everyone does? That's just like basic social skills.
Well yea thats the point. Some people have to put effort in @@desmondcoppin591
@@jenklassen3233
This is exactly how I see it, if you feel uncomfortable or angry at something I said, just EXPLAIN WHY WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY YELLING AT ME! LOL!
Trying to explain to a parent who never learned to listen is terrifying. I'm 34 and I'm still an over explainer because of my mother
Last year I found out someone who I genuinely thought was my friend has actually always been super uncomfy around me and I sobbed 🫠
They never said anything and social cues aren’t always my strong point so I had no idea until somebody else told me.
Y’all have to have a creepy pasta episode with Damien back as a guest.
YES
OMG YES
No
Yeeessss
Please I will be so happy
❤
Every time I see and learn more about Damien I’m like, damn, this is a legit cool guy. I mean this as a compliment: He absolutely reeks of years of therapy in the best way. Someone who has gone through and learned so much about themself and how to convey themself clearly. Plus? Funny af.
I know, right? I don't want to sound parasocial but I love him and know we'd be great friends in real life 😅. He's so precious, he reminds me of a good friend of mine so that's probably why I keep feeling love for him.
Agree, the more videos I watch that he's in, the more I'm like "I bet that if we were friends he'd make me feel so safe"
I think Damien is genuinely the funniest person in the group in terms of straight up jokes, maybe other than Tommy. The others are funny in their own ways, but Damien just kills me with like a single well timed sentence all the time.
Za wit
"i went to the beach that makes you old. I got old." and "It only 5 night, It only five night. Freddy Fazbear." absolutely killed me.
Okay, but Damien telling Amanda to go on Wattpad was a great little moment. I love Damien!

The “poor little thing” is so real for neurodivergent people, I used to sleep with my bed covered in stuffed animals when I was a little kid because I didn’t want any of them to be offended that they weren’t chosen for my bed lol
Omg same. My bed was full of stuffed animals, and I still sleep with five of them even though I'm soon 30 lol.
Maybe not the same, but this is kinda why I ALWAYS go for the "last item on the shelf" when shopping. Maybe it's the last donut or the last laundry detergent, but I snatch it up because I don't want it to be left alone. Or maybe I'm just too empathetic??
I got in trouble as a kid for bringing all my beanie babies on a trip (instead of clothes and whatnot) but I felt so guilty leaving any of them out.
I used to beat the shit out of the ones I had to tire myself and sleep easier.
I didnt have stuffed animals, instead i did that with my PILLOWS
at 11 minutes i love Damien just explaining that he has autism and autistically mirrors others in social settings as a way to communicate with people
Man, Damien needs to stop being so relatable or I need to book an appointment with my therapist xD
@@KoiSplash-wk5tmI usually combine both personalities and focus on traits or interests the two people share since I know them both already
I want to give Damien a big hug. Just really respect his authenticity and vulnerability here.
amanda's increasing panic and "i doN'T GET IT!!!?!"s are killing me someone give her a hug
I opened the SmoshCast and start listening to the second episode, thinking I was safe. Then a whisper came from the pipes; “Your not safe” said the Podcast Stabber.
Shayne finding the funny two sentence horror instead of the scary ones and not explaining what he’s doing is great. 😂
“Not Kill You Man” has me choking and sputtering and crying and pissing
Shayne's laugh gives me energy. Amanda being confused about what's going on around her gives me joy. Damian is hot as hell.
That's a two sentence horror story right there:
Damien was having a great time on the podcast with his friends Shayne and Amanda. Until he told the story of the clown in the attic.
I mean Damien was still having a great time it was Amanda who wasn't anymore 💀
Okay but we need more semicolons lol
Just swap Damien and Amanda and change "he" to "Damien" and voila.
Damian took me out when he said, "I have to. That's the end of the story. They didn't get up and start dancing." 😂
I've never agreed more with Amanda than when she said that Damiens deep voice is hot ngl 👀

Thanks! It's the trauma! 🎉

Amanda is such an aunt, I love her
lmao this is so specific
She has an old soul 😂
I doubt anyone cares but Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is about a son who’s father died in 9/11 and does star Tom Hanks. Amanda is probably thinking of the movie Wonder. Remember Me starring Robert Pattinson is the movie where the plot twist is revealed in the last five minutes that 9/11 is about to happen and the main character is standing in his father’s office looking out the window of the WTC. They’re all three different movies
"Golden Arm" is in the book Tomfoolery: Trickery and Foolery With Words, by Alvin Schwartz (and doubtless many other books). It's a book for kids with collected funny poetry, ghost stories, OLD jokes - it's wonderful.
LMFAO i just imagine shayne at the doctor’s office filling out his medical history forms and sweating profusely
I love how supportive they are in Amanda's confusion
Gotta love Amanda explaining to Shayne and Damien that once upon a time, stories were found in books.
