Basically furbies have a small amount of backup battery inside of them. So even with the batteries out, they can work for a short amount of time. Im pretty sure part of it has to do with the fact that origanal furbies have a freindship level sort of system, or in other words they get more fluent with english the more you use them. The extra battery is for keeping that data while batterues are out, but it may once in a while let the furby work for a few seconds.
Yeah, its the capacitors, they store a but of energy on them and just liberate it real fast too, the machine sthat make magnets work have giant capacitors that store eletricity then just liberte it very fast

Idk, I had a furby as a child, and it scared me so much that I took the batteries out and hid it in a corner of my room under a bunch of other stuff, and that darn thing still talked and kept going off, randomly freaking me out in the middle of the night for months, until I finally got rid of it. I still think that thing had to be haunted or possessed or something, otherwise how the heck did it function for literal months without batteries in it?! I don't think a backup power supply in it would/could last that long.

Fun fact: the capacitors inside furbies can still hold charge even without the batteries
(A capacitor is a small device thats kind of like a battery but it instead of releasing charge slowly it releases it mostly all at once. Capacitors can still shock you even when the power is off)
