Seeing someone put so much effort to make such an amazing documentary on my grandfather has to be one of the greatest feelings ever. Thank you so much for making this! Truly an amazing watch
Although I never knew much about him until this awesome documentary, your grandfather was a great man, and that's cool !!! In the past decade, I've gained a major interest, respect, and admiration for the independents in nascar racing. Those guys had it tough.......yet they always did their level best to forge ahead. That takes the kind of guts that most men don't have.
First, Beltsville Speedway is right up the road from where I used to live and grew up and it warms my heart to hear it mentioned given its extensive history. Second, my uncle, who just passed away a few short weeks ago, also worked on the Hunger Games alongside Soapy. He did the lighting for the movie while Soapy did stunts. Interesting that both men passes away in the same year who worked on the same movie. Rest in peace Soapy, and say hi to my uncle Bill in heaven.
Another excellent story on one of the great independants of NASCAR! With Soapy retiring before the TV boom in the 80's we never saw too many features about him to learn about his career. Hopefully you have some vids planned for Jimmy Means, HB Bailey and Phil Barkdoll in the chute :)
SlapShoes put it fairly succinctly when he referred to one of Brock Beard’s other videos as “a one helluva rabbit hole” or something to that effect. Lol I’m astonished at the research that would have to go into this content. Where in heck does Brock Beard come up with the interview quotes and behind the scenes historical facts? Amazing and enjoyable.
This is a great video. Some of my family use to race. I would hang out with them in the garage and watch them build those cars. They also run some moonshine back in those days. That was really the life back then. This stuff they call racing now is not the same. I hardly ever watch it. Keep those videos coming you doing a great job and THANK YOU !!!!!!
THANK YOU BROCK! Two more wishes…….Jim Paschal……the GREATEST nascar pilot NOONE remembers (1966 win at N.Wilksboro available at Appalachian St. library…..TWO TIME WORLD 600 WINNER….aaaand the one everyone remembers….the beloved TIGER TOM PISTONE (also worthy material on him as favorite to win N.Wilksboro race in 66 with that crazy powerful engine). Both truly DESERVE RECOGNITION and YOU are the MAN
I made a comment about a Pontiac I bought from Brad Smith in your Buddy Arrington video. Brad bought the car from Buddy. Car (chassis) I was told was the villain car from six pack and still had the damaged dodge body on it when Brad acquired it. So now I’ve learned that the car was apparently driven by Richard Petty, Buddy, and now Neil Castles
When was the Grand National East renamed Grand American division because that is what I remember it being called for the pony cars on short tracks except when they were invited by Big Bill to start and run at Taladega
Awesome historical piece, about stock car drivers, and Neil “Soapy” Castles. It brought me back to my childhood, 50's an 60's...even a mention about Fireball Roberts. I remember going to see FIREBALL 500 movie at the theater's in the 1966. Fireball 500 (1966) Official Trailer - Frankie Avalon Movie HD th-cam.com/video/Oshg3O1kwLw/w-d-xo.html
Man, everything I've heard of Castles makes him sound like an unpleasant man. Apparently a pretty big racist and not afraid to crash guys out he didn't like. Maybe this video will change things?
Nice that people that made NASCAR are not forgotten, too bad NASXAR DID. Today it’s all about cookie cutter cars, young pablum puking drivers that never paid their dues and racing with coffee breaks and diaper changes (segments) I miss racing, I wish NASCAR WOULD. BRIG IT BACK!
every time airbase speedway is mentioned in a video slapshoes arm starts itching
I bet it's hot in there
@@raritania7581 Clint Bowyer references are amazing.

I'm so glad you approve! Thank you so much for checking out my video. I greatly enjoyed learning more about his life.

It’s so nice to see these videos about drivers from NASCAR’s past.
I agree Kevin!
Rest in Peace, Neil.
Thank you for making this masterpiece!
OMG! That white car at 10:07 looks FANTASTIC!!! idk what it is about it, but WOW
Thank you so much for profiling these independents from history. Every car on the track represents a story!

That's my uncle. Awesome guy.
I'm so lucky I found your channel. You honestly have the best NASCAR / Motorsports channel on TH-cam. Keep up with the great work man.God bless✝️🏁🇺🇸👍🏻
Great video love to see more just like this
Great stuff 👏 r.i.p soapy
RIP Soapy Castles 🙏
Hes my great grandad, he was racist asf
Awesome video. The looping fiddle music is highly fatiguing though.
Good to know, I appreciate the feedback. I've still been experimenting with music in the videos.
@@LASTCARonBROCK no worries! I think that the music in the ROTFF episodes (I remember a guitar) is really easy on the ears and adds good atmosphere
What a legend
what do you use to edit? would love to make some bio/timeline videos of legendary dirt racers. 👍 your videos are always incredibly informative!

Only a good ole boy will keep his pistol that close, even while driving a race car.
Never knew his nickname was soapy
same
S/o to Brock
that’s my grandpa
Do one on Tommy Irwin the oldest living nascar driver
Paul Goldsmith is NASCAR's oldest living former driver born in 1925.
Never herd of him
Damn all these legends die this year...said they lived this long to see how terrible nascar has become
👍🏼Pretty damn pitiful
What kinda name is soapy eh? How'd a Muppet like him pass inspection
The same way one like u happened to be born
