I did have water, yeah. At least makes it less sticky. It's still no fun to work with, but it's at least cheaper than green stuff, so it's got that going for it.
Personally, I use petroleum jelly when working with milliput. Saves having to re-wet my fingers every five seconds, and keeps the milliput from running.
That there wasn't really a "neutral" realm in the Mortal Realms was initially a turn-off for me. But as I dug deeper into Age of Sigmar, the concept started to grow on me. Any place can be "normal" to the inhabitants of that place, and in turn helps give flavor both to the land and those people who live there. It's honestly a shame that the Cities of Sigmar only have the one variant aesthetic of human soldiers - the Landsneckt style Freeguild from the old Empire range - because the Mortal Realms lends itself conceptually to a wide variety of cultures. The idea I've wanted to run with was grabbing some third party historical miniatures - that of Afghan tribesmen from the Anglo-Afghan wars - and run them as "Freeguild" native to Aqshy, the realm of fire. The narrative being that they descend from the folks left behind when Sigmar closed the gates of Azyr, and were left to fight a guerrilla war against the forces of Chaos for centuries. Engaging in hit-and-run tactics against their predominantly Khornite adversaries. Sniping from afar using jezzails, harrying supply lines from horseback, and leading the hot-headed followers of the blood god into ambushes. Never giving them the fair fight they so desired, and which would have spelled doom for the Aqshy natives. For Shyish, I have a different idea. Again, using historical miniatures (probably Roman), this time painting them as ghosts. So it's like the deceased warriors of long-dead empires have marched out to defend their homes from threats. Sometimes Chaos, and sometimes Nagash (whom they see as an unworthy death god, that should be destroyed and new death god put in his place).
Why the gloves? Most of those goopy products (milliput/papermache/plaster/filler) becomes much easier to work with if you just go for clean wet hands. I like the tree never thought about cracklepaste for bark Im gonna have to have a play around with that. Overall a nice looking piece every table needs a graveyard.
In this case, mostly just because I didn't want to get plaster on my hands. Gloves make for easy clean up. With some things, like Milliput, they can be a skin irritant and it's better to wear gloves.
Those purple gravestones look super cool!!
Yeah, I kinda love the way this recipe turned out. Looks good, super easy to do. Perfect.
Cool build!
Hot glue works good for the tree bark. Cheap, fast, and creates fun twisted texture.
Milliput works better with a little water on your gloves - and if you let it set up for about 5 - 10 minutes, it is a bit easier to work with
