- This is a glitchless speedrun of Chrono Trigger, aiming for 100% completion that has to match the following:
getting at least 1 of every Item/Armor/Helmet/Accessory (186 unique items)
collecting all Power/Magic/Speed Tabs (except of LV99 Pink Nu reward)
opening all the Sealed Chests (Black Boxes) / Sealed Doors in every time period
finishing all sidequests
defeating every boss
defeating every form of Spekkio (except LV99 Pink Nu)
learning all Single/Double/Triple Techs for each character
Game clock completion is 5 hours and 17 minutes at the moment the Lavos Core is defeated.
Featuring an item showoff before final Lavos in this TH-cam edition, which is skipped in the original run.

This was one of the most memorable games I ever played.
This is one of the few RPG games i played back then that i actually anjoyed alot.
watching this really takes me back.
Man, this reminds me of how beautiful these vintage rpg games were/still are. Thanks for this vid!
3:14 That music...When it all begins. Oooh, still love it all these years later.
This game always holds a soft spot in my heart.
I never noticed but when the Masamune is restored in the ruins, Magus is like "Dont gimme that shit." hahah with his cape
imhellag A very clever nuance that frequently gets overlooked!
This is impressive. I'm not even a fan of Chrono Trigger, yet I just watched all of this in a row and it was amazing.
That took some time.
Really liked it, nice seeing this game beat this fast at 100% without using gamebreaking glitches.
Classic game normal playthrough - 12+ hours (easy)
Classic game speed run - 5 hours
Modern game normal playthrough - 5 hours
Modern game speed run - 1-2 hours
Have we progressed backwards?
This game took me about 24hours for my first completion.
i feel that this is not properly marked as a tas. While at the end of the description it says it's a tas, i don't think thats enough marking to show it's a tas. You should change the title to [TAS] Chrono Trigger - 100% speedrun in 5:17. Additionally, TASVideos also wants TASes to be clearly marked as a TAS.
Ya might want to rethink the title of the video...it implies you complete the game in 5 minutes 17 seconds.
And I thought when I seen the title, I thought you beat it in 5 mins 17 seconds. I think my record is closer to 10 mins, but I cant recall, its been so long. Of course, I didnt do all the things you listed tho :D
that ending flight, man, cry every time
Robo's good bye had me crying along with Lucca :'(
It was totally worth spending 6 hours watching this vid, great job!
The dark moody brooding guy you always fight, then who joins your party is always so freaking cool. Not bad but sometimes driven there by circumstance...Think Shadow, Amarant, Vincent, Sephiroth, and the OG Magus. Tragic backgrounds... but always so rewarding when they start to come around to your side.
What? Magus should die, so Glenn can get rid of his curse and become human again at the ending.
***** Are you actually serious? Magus is beast.
***** he literally has the most tripple techs in the game, and theres still a ton of game left after you get him, like a good 40%
*****
If you get Magus his best gear, he has the best stats in the game. And his Black Hole is especially useful in the Black Omen. Plus Dark Eternal and Omega Lasers are the best triple techs in the game.
*Grabs popcorn*
"trust me, you'll need it too"
good music , great story , amazing game.
dang that scene with glenn and cyrus gets me everytime :,)
Good WORK!!!
TAS =)
3:46:12 "That was most embarrassing!" Well said, Spekkio.
This is where the description comes into play
Omg... congrats!
That was my favorite edit in the game... "Soup"
That was awesome.
I was thinking that too so ignore that other guy. Thought it was a super sped up video. Seeing now that it's over 5hrs, I of course now know it won't be possible to cram it into that space regardless of the video speed.
This was legit. Nice!
this is so awesome.
I see at the very bottom it says:
"Notes:
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. More info at [etc]"
Did you play the ENTIRE run with frame by frame advance? If so, how long did it take?
No, it wasn't hard to comprehend. Have you really played this game "100 times"? It was always possible to switch characters at any moment after reaching the End of Time for the first time, both on the world map and inside any place.
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk, never saw the guy take Lavos so much in my life hehe, nice strategy you did with the robot.
I cant believe i sat here and watched this whole thing -_-
Not to mention that it was posted by a user who is known for TAS videos.
Lol. @ 19:30, Saturn passes Frog with Marle in his party. Frog: "I have failed..." Saturn: "Seeya chump!"
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but there are a couple of things that might have helped speed up the run: In the prison section, I don't think it was necessary to pick up the Lode Sword and the 1500G in the locked cell, since you already pick up a Lode Sword from Laboratory 16 (or could have purchased one from Melchior). It also might have been faster to let Lucca rescue you from the execution, since it would have moved you closer to Fritz once gameplay resumes.
This run ignores Level 99 Pink Nu on purpose. As for the Bronze Fist, I don't recall Ayla getting it. Try the submission details.
The description says that this is a TAS. It even tells you were you can learn more about them.
Which wasn't there when I posted.
Does collecting ALL Power/Speed/Magic Tabs include the multiple ones you can get by going through the Black Omen in descending order of time periods? Also, despite being a rhetorical question, wouldn't this count for the infinite Power Tab grind?
Wouldn't every boss fight also include the second Magus fight on the North Cape?
Wouldn't learning every Triple Tech mean equipping all the colored "Rocks"?
What about getting the non-menu items, like the Poyozo Doll, the Cat Food, or the other clones?
Description says zero about this being a TAS; in fact, it implies it's human.
wanted to know what was in the chest at 2:25:00 but he skips the text obviously
Memories 🥹🥹 and amazing game
Robo is available from the moment you get him in the future.
Only other thing you didn't include was Ayla's BronzeFist which you can only get when you bring her up to level 99. This attack takes away 9999 damage from an enemy as her single attack when you get a critical strike. You might have gotten it, I've heard of 99 before but others are saying Ayla gets it at level 96. You could also time getting all items (you did get 1 of every item) and time how long it takes to get everyone to level 99 each.
5 hours?? wow
Brabo
I'm not disputing that, I'm saying the video name looks like that's what it says.
how do you get past the monster spawn point at 5:30? i want to try this
There is a 2 pixel space at the top of the bridge where you can run upwards and "clip" past the fight trigger. That skip is known as bird skip in the community.
Wh... WHAT!? How on earth did you get a not guilty verdict... a UNANIMOUS not guilty verdict in the trial without even trying!?
pretty sure there is an element of randomness to it no matter what you do he just got lucky.
Weird!
Huh, you're right.. if you go for the pendant first WITHOUT checking on Marle/Nadia (which happened in this run), you normally should get that being after ransom guilty verdict at least even if you deny it.. As far as I know there's no element of randomness in this. I get repeatable results with this trial scene. (Can you tell I'm madly obsessed with this part of the game? :)
Super !!!
I thought it's 5 minutes and 17 seconds.
This run doesn't get Ayla's Bronze Fist even though that would have taken too much time same as LV99 Nu. Good run regardless.
Ayla's first fist upgrade is at lvl 73 and gets the Iron Fist then the Bronze fist at lvl 99
you could argue he forgot the bronze fist XD
How many people actually look at that?
Except under notes where it clearly labels it as a TAS.
Couldn't you have made this speedrun 6 seconds faster completed, if only you had shortened all the names to 1 character?
Title could be more clearly labeled as a TAS... or even the description.
awesome run; though one nitpick: for the item showoff at the end, it would have been better to "unequip" all unique equipment (by replacing with store-bought weapons / helmets / armor, and for the case of accessories, ones that are easily charmable in duplicate), that way you have literally all the items conveniently on a single menu. (Excellent run nevertheless, I would never have been able to pull this off)
...
I remember this game being a lot harder.
How are you getting through the menus so fast? Especially the town menus...
Tas stands for tool assisted. Basically makes it frame by frame perfect. I believe you can navigate the menu before its even up on your screen.
Dragon tank fight. Healing itself at full HP... dumb AI.
if it's 5:17 then why is the video 5:51:18? just a question.
Is this tool assisted?
I'm not gonna nit-pick, but it should be possible to beat this faster, if you got it done that fast on so much HP anyway.
I beat Lavos using all three girls at level 26, which as far as I can tell is the second lowest level party that can beat Lavos, with the Life Line party being the lowest.
The point here being that if 3 level 26 can beat Lavos, then there is probably some sweet spot above level 26, but below whatever you have, which makes for a faster game all together. Though I do see that without wearing the Wallet, you probably gain that many levels anyway, never really thought about it, because it's been so long since I played a non-low-level game that I don't remember the progression.
Read the 100% completion criteria before you start nit-picking about completion time.
aren't u the guy who claimed u were beating super metroid faster in 1994 than the world record holder in 2014?
The run is complete. Not retardedly complete, but complete. If the complainers really think three hours of level grinding is worth watching to cover the last 1% of the game's code, then they don't understand that a TAS is for entertainment purposes.
Did you get all endings?
If you are not cheating answer me this
1) How do u do shopping so fast, it is impossible to buy and sell items and equip yourself in 1-2 seconds.
2) how did u make Magus cast only shadow magic. When I fight Magus his barrier change all the time. Where you just so lucky you had Robo at your party and he was always weak against shadow magic?
ITS TAS IDIOT
***** since I am idiot, explain me what is tas
its the emulator that is playing not a real person, tas uses all the frames possible, so its super fast
***** it is the person playing, dont try to explain something that you dont know.. sure there are lunar scripts and all that stuff that lets SOME segments go on their own, but 90% of everything you see is done by a person running the game in like 5% speed or frame by frame with save states.
Coult909
if there is a person playing, how can he shop stuff, equip, and sell stuff he doesn't want in 1 second? I still don't get it.
And perdo still didn't tell me how he managed to fight magus and make him cast only shadow spell.
I wait for the uploader to answer me.
Lol ... That wondershot crit @ 4:11:18 XD
is this the world record?
If the snes game takes over 5 hours to complete in speedrun it definitely has depth to it .
Even if it wasn't there, the very first thing you see when you press play is a big TAS info screen. But don't hold back, do complain some more, it's such a big issue.
Alright then. Everyone knows that every single game has a long, boring intro, so most people just skip right to 5:00 or so. Therefore, it's reasonable to say a lot of people will miss the fact that this is tool-assisted.
6 hour speedrun, that's a fairly long game haha
How the hell did you master the race with Johnny?!
Easy
+AznDemonLord TAS..
Not like it's in the bloody uploader's name or anything...
45:08 We're no strangers to love~
Like
And?
it was 5:51:18
No, it wasn't. They used the game's clock. Which doesn't include moments when you don't have control over the characters.
well... around 6.5 hours I guess then?
2:02:00 magus fight
Um... I'm almost done this game and I didn't know you can run away from a battle how the fuck do you run away?!!! D:
A little late, but you press L and R at the same time and hold it until you run.
But you probably figured that out by now.
You really should have played it first.
expect many dumb comments of people ignorant of TAS
Mostly people who don't know how to use tools.
pinche flojera el black omen
clearly hex edited to be slightly faster with many things
It's a TAS (tool-assisted speedrun) so every single frame can be used for input. That's why certain things like menus look so fast.
Nice :D
