Archery is like when you have social anxiety but you still wanna stab someone. - Josh Strife
Wow, now that someone put it into words, I've figured it out.. imma get into Archery
Wow never knew why I gravitate towards archery until now 😂
@@rainbowGZUS7 Don't. -Loliana- Leliana ended up as the most useless charachter in my party. Even with Arrow of slaing and rapid shot. If you want to play rogue go with the assasin. Even on the hardest difficulty you can half their health before they even know you are there
One of the things I love about this game is how detailed it is, even in start of the game doesn't just rush past the tutorial to get you to the "meat" of the game. You can explore at your own pace and there is actually dialogue for each place you visit. You could easily miss seeing the corpse of your nephew and sister-in-law if you rush out to fight the guards. I also love how some of the cutscenes are set up as if you're actually walking mid-conversation. You're not just walking up to someone and pressing a button, the game naturally takes control and transition into the cutscenes. The world feels so lived in and you just don't get that in a lot of these modern games.
Start 1:18
Skip character creation 23:34
Open Source Timestamps, thank you!
Chad
I can’t believe I missed this. 😅 Josh playing one of my favourite games ever. Thank goodness for the Replay channel.
For future reference, he played 'most' of it but cut the playthrough short because he was unironically enjoying the game too much and wanted to finish it himself in his own time.
@@Blisterdude123 Disappointing to hear, but also the most valid reason I've ever heard ngl.
@@Blisterdude123 As someone who replays it roughly once a year, i can abslutely understand that reasoning
@@MR-hk2qu Yeah, this was from the era when Bioware still made games that you could really lose yourself in, personally.
@@Blisterdude123 - You’re right. Thanks. I do remember that now! 😆 To be honest I can relate. 😊
Thank you for making me nostalgic as hell to this game, now im re-downloading it for the 80th time. I'm glad this is so rewatchable and replayable for 2023
Thank you so much for putting these up!! I hate twitch and refuse to use it. This way I can still experience the magnificence that is our favorite second monitor content creator! ❤
Same its shocking to me how popular it is when the ui is so horrendous
i remember watching this on twitch, really liked what i saw and it was the reason i bought, played, and loved Dragon Age origins. highly recommend it, thanks Josh !
I remember getting this game when it came out and I didn't leave my room for days while I grinded everything in this game. I was immersed in the story, I couldn't stop playing. It is one of my top fave games for sure.
An adventure with such great characters like
Duncan
Not-Duncan
Discount Duncan
Dogcan
My boy out here sleeping on Sten
@@loganspangler4520 Big-Duncan
"Guy seems like he's competent" - I think this might be the first time I've heard Alistair described this way so early on.
I mean, he is competent, but nobody thinks so. Least of all Alistair.
I'm impressed at how you saw the ambush coming at the bridge near the end! Walked into that too many times myself xD
This is the "lets play" I never knew I needed.
The process of making the profile picture in the character creation was a legitimate example of spontaneous real life magic.
I haven't watched any of the stream playthroughs so it's my first time watching. Hearing him be so excited about the game play mechanics 30 minutes in, knowing The Fade is looming, is a delight.
I'm so torn between being extremely happy Josh is playing DAO and being extremely annoyed he is doing it with Twitch chat.
This game is more of a show than a game.
@@Haggis-Giggles4692 Not true at all
I've been having a really rough time lately, and I can't remember the last time I laughed so much in one sitting. I know this is an old video, but thanks Josh 🩷
I'm very sad I missed this when you streamed it live. DA:O is one of my fave games - I've played it more times than I can actually remember. Watching and listening to you scratch the surface of the game is making me quite emotional. I'm so envious you were playing it for the first time, with everything and perhaps more excitingly, everyone, to discover. Am I right that you decided to play it offline in the end? A wise choice I think. I do hope you enjoyed it or have that pleasure yet to come. It's such a great great series - yes, even DAII, despite all it's flaws. Lovely stuff. :)
this is painful as origins fan but its not everyday you can see a blind run
If i had a choice of listening to Josh Strife Hayes talk for 2 hours or watch a movie I would watch this VOD again everytime.
Thank you for the remarkably entertaining commentary
One of the best rpgs ever made.
I really wish he had named him Ser Woofs-a-Lot and played all the way through to awakening and to meet Ser Pounce-a-Lot
"The woman from LOTR that stabbed the dude and said "I'm no man"" LMAO that's literally hpw I described her in my head
Ironically Mary is the one that broke the curse when he stabbed the Witch King in the back but he get mentioned less than almost everyone.
@@JoshTheHoffman It's both. The prophecy (not a curse) was to symbolize the arrogance of Sauron and his minions. In the end he would be defeated by the cooperation of the "unexpected people", the less powerful. It's a a reinforcement of Tolkien's broad themes of the primacy of the humble folk and that cooperation/love is the greatest strength. Since hobbits don't exist, people naturally tend to focus on Éowyn and how her place in this narrative relates to women's situation. Also she said the line lol
@@LucasRibeiro-po4pb In the movie she said in. In the book as far as i can remember Marry stabs him in the back and then Eowyn struggles to her feet and Stabs him in the face with a special Westernese blade. I really think it was far more Marry than Eowyn. I think anyone in the movie could have done the final blow.
@@JoshTheHoffman She also fought him head on and distracted him for Marry. Always seemed to me that the scene was intended as a partnership
@@JoshTheHoffman geez guys....seeing you discuss lore when you dont even know that its MERRY is quite facepalming
that kind of chin allows you to use a secret skills called 3-wielded sword. now they can stab with their chin
There is nothing funnier than chat trying to backseat when they don't know the game well.
"Uhhh gamefaqs says you need to talk to the kennel master, click properly this time"
Dragon Age Origins - Habsburg Edition
Dragon Age 2 was the first game my wife really managed to duplicate exactly how she looks in real life but on her character. It was so creepy it was amazing, lol.
I genuinely and irrationally hate people who mess with faces in character creation
You’re not irrational at all. It’s immature and annoying, not fun to watch and I can’t imagine anybody playing like that could be anywhere near as immersed as somebody that is actually trying to engage with the medium in a normal way.
@@OccultEclipse "How dare you not have fun the way I have fun, stop having fun wrong!"
It's not for me. I get that it's memey and some people get a kick out it, but it's hard to get immersed in something story based if the players character looks like a troll. If it's Saints Row or something goofy, then whatever I guess lol
@@OccultEclipse He paid for the game, he's allowed to play it however he wants and it's in no way a measure of maturity. If anything, it shows immature you are trying to sound smarter than you actually are by judging someone else for enjoying a game in their preferred way.
I agree with you, it's all the more annoying that virtually every streamer does it any time they can. Sure it's funny at first, but especially for story focused games it gets old real fast.
im so sad i missed this live 🥺 Dao is amazing, im glad Josh recognizes the the good bits so fast
Dog sound effects: very realistic, upset my cat, A+
Surprised you haven't played this before but looking forward to watching your impressions
Main character looks like he's going into battle and need only the strongest potions
Once again brother its so awesome to see you play the games i grew up on and your somehow playing a completely different game then i did. Love it brother
one of my favorite games of all time
Timmy fell down a well lol classic Lassy quote.
omg, my ocd is going eye-rolling. He's not picking everything from the death corpses/ loots, he's skipping a lot of stuffs just casually going through, and even with TAB, he's ignoring things that will become totally missable later on in the game. And this is just NORMAL difficulty that he's dying so easily. I don't even know if I can watch 3 parts of him just threading through this game so lightly. 2 hours and he's still in the kolkari wilds.
That’s how I got 110 hours. I like to take my time and explore everything 😅
thanks a lot for these replays !
I was really happy there was that action adventure mode in, i definitely wouldnt have played it in that isometric bird eye veiw, and would have missed out on that awesome game!
Visa, you are a LEGEND.
Thank you, I enjoy trying to do the best service for Josh's community
This is the first vid i have watched from you. I must say i love your advice to let the hate flow through you in multiple hate watch sessions and comments.
I love your voice acting.
Edit: lol when u mentioned Matt Barry, I had been thinking he sounded like Lazlo from WWDIS since saying he responds like he was t listening hahaha.
He missed out by not reading all of the different background stories for every race and class. This game has so much replayability with those.
The Dog is always called "Barkspawn" for me.
We need a poll; will Josh restart a human warrior, or even mage (as they get OP late game), or not.
I need to see more of this now I love this.
"I wanna be with them" - "Oh do I have good news for you."
Human noble rogue, that brings back memories to my first playthrough :D
Didn't think it was possible to make a character uglier than the two recruits at the start. Daveth and Jory I think? Good job proving me wrong.
You should play this in your off stream time, Josh. You're focusing on the 12 year olds in your chat more than the game itself, and let's face it, a story driven Bioware game requires more attention than that.
He did, that's why he stopped streaming it.
@@jordanmartinetti8224 Is he still going to be uploading his playthrough? I'd love to see his choices.
If you go back and talk to Nan she actually shares a story with you about a war hound. She was the Cousland Warden's nanny. She ends up being kind to you if you thank her for the story.
38:49 you know you miss some of the games charm by not exploring the environment and seeing the crazy old bioware put into the game
how delightful that you havent played this yet!!! its one of my favourite games ever so im very happy with this😇
Why is this coming out 2 years later?
Visa (the Josh Strife Says editor) has been uploading old VODs
Necessary viewing for everyone who missed it but see the clips
Now I know why it feld familiar.
@@annijaklamer Josh had different vision first for the channel and we recently made it so I (visa/editor/clip channel manager) will start to manage the vod channel. Now we will upload all the vods here!
@@JoshStrifeSays tbh I love that vision
Long live the VOD's!
I almost choked when he said we’re going to have a sleepover 😂
I saw you playing this a while back and decided to do a run myself with a rogue, it was a lot of fun.
the joke about the ginger guy is so underrated
If I knew when playing this game for the first time that I was enjoying the last and arguably the best Bioware game of all time I would have taken and framed a photo of me finishing it and saying "RIP Bioware"
15:50 can’t believe he made a Githyanki
1:25:02 I had the same reaction, I like the guy, but he should not have had as much say in the military as he does
Welcome to feudalism.
I really like this game. I have played every race/class at least 2-3times and my favorite Dalish
Just went back to watch the other vids and it says unavailable. What's up with that
You mean the DAO playlist? They're going up once every Wednesday from today going forward! 12 vods in total
@@JoshStrifeSays cool! Thanks
All hail visa
A stream where Josh actually plays the game? Well thats a rare occasion. Edit: wait nevermind its more of the usual 😂
This game series reminds me of the Ultima series (5 through 7s).
Dragon Age Origins is the game that'll actually make you think you ARE a Grey Warden.
My character is too badass to be me but I definitely felt like I was playing as a cool character of my own making rather than feeling like you’re playing as a “custom character” if that makes sense.
Hey Josh, I absolutely love that you're putting these vods on youtube, could I ask that you put the videos in the playlist in the correct order? Thank you for your time.
When I first played Dragon Age Origin I played as a human rogue... and I named her Cous... so I was Cous Cousland. I love thos naming convenstion.
This is awesome
so good.
You have an excellent voice for reading the letters and such! I got Dragon Age: Origins a while back but haven't played it. I'm not into fighting games but this one seems to have a good story. ETA: After watching 4 of your DA:O episodes, I just had to reinstall the game. I had a totally different start than you. I didn't do a quick start and maybe that was part of it. No royal family, no dog :(, but who knows what will happen after I get past the mage training part.
Hey, you've probably figured this out by now but in case you haven't: your class and race determines which prologue you get. Mages always get the same mage start, human noble gets Josh's start, Dalish Elf gets the wood elf start, etc.
@@BurntSteak I did figure it out. At first, I was like "Hey! Where is MY family?" Interesting way to get players to replay the game so they can see other content. I ALWAYS play a mage in games. If it's overpowered enough, I can survive. I HATE combat but sometimes I try to get past that so I can enjoy a story. So far, I'm 20 hours in and really enjoying it a lot.
@@Retired_Geek_Woman Haha yeah that's fair enough. I'm glad you're enjoying it - it's one of my favourite games. If you ever feel that the combat is too much, I'm sure there are mods or cheats you can use to help alleviate some of the frustration.
@@BurntSteak I've got combat turned to easy which means my party doesn't take friendly fire. After watching Josh play, I got a better handle on how to manage the group. So far, so good. Then I got sent into the Fade(?) with only one character who can turn into a mouse. This is SO not fun. But I'll figure it out eventually.
The locked chests he misses the side quests as well...
I still like my mage character on here.
the best frontliner and tank i ever had in this game: functionally immune to all damage and kills all white-tier enemies in a single hit
dooes josh have some mods installed for stability
Josh Strife Hayes, Plays, Says... and now i'm more amused to find another play on his name... replays, than i am of the actual content of the channel. I'm going to start a channel called Josh Strife Stays. Will sell it to him latee
Man's got a face that reminds me of radium documentaries.
When will Part 2 be posted?
Next wednesday
dragons age is pretty good I always play a mage myself cause I love the mage storyline how the templars see mages like they are a nuke ready to go off and some just want to kill all who have magic so they can't be possessed by demons and most mages just want to live their lives free from being hunted
Can’t romance Alistair as a dude trust me I tried
Bruh...that character creation threw me off lol. You ain't serious 😂😂😂
If he”s never played it - why does he have Resume button in main menu….? Did he explain?
Fun fact, that IS Tim Curry.
Man i wish he would stream more and not just play Runescape, his streams are so good.
More games like this, Pathfinder or Solastawould be fun.
Got to 15:55 and it looks like the beginning of a gith playthrough ;)
I wish they remastered it, it is my favourite of the Dragon Age games. Also there is only FemShep. MaleShep is a myth.
oh, Josh has no idea how many things he has missed. But the lad's on his 1st playthrough, that's understandable. I played mine at least 5 times already with different starting origins across the years. And 1:44:25 oh that's easy, just select everyone and attack the wolves. Ohhhhhh, he has no idea too, he's playing as a Rogue, yet fighting like a Warrior in front of targets. As a rogue, you can WASD behind targets and backstabs targets (I only found out towards the end of my first playthrough too, otherwise Rogue's hard to play). And as a Rogue, you can level up CUNNINGS (iirc) to replace STR as the dmg modifier later on in the game, wielding great persuasion skills, pickpocketing, and lock-picking skills too. Rogue's one of the highest melee DPS characters too because of dual wielding and the number of slot enchantments they can have on both weapons combined.
Not naming the dog "Barkspawn?" Literally unplayable.
your char kinda looks like asmongold
Less than 10 minutes for a Monty Python reference. Not bad at all
Is this a young josh or a recent josh?
You tell me, Streamed November 20 2021
1:32:32 okay Josh kinda just made Arl Howe and I'm mighty uncomfortable with that
"He was alive, right up to the point where he was not."
This quote gives me OG Destiny writing vibes. Seriously.. It was awful.
"Fireballs are OP as hell!"
Veterans: *Chuckles in Nightmare*
alot of similarity with the ff16 begining , i could see dragon age origin having been inspired by GOT aswell .
YES
Oh i thought it was a new play through
Hopefully we get a was it any good about this game 🙏
13:10 Only Asmongold plays himself in every game... or what he wishes he could be. Archer in this game is quite good. I prefer Archer over stabby stab rogue.
23:15 You don't need to restart, you can change the difficulty while playing to make the rest of the game harder or easier as you go.
37:00 I have never ever in my 10+ years of playing this game used that option. telling the cook she should be put down is mean.
The character looks like Lae'Zel was his mum
Oh no, he said mages are traditionally weak. My poor boy...
Wow. I have never seen anyone play DA with that isometric viewpoint.
More please
Iona? I hardly know her
I'm pretty sure Daenarys wasn't a hero.
Agrees. She invaded a country who had kicked out her crazy dictator father, and tried to tried she was their saviour. When they didnt kiss her butt, and bow down to her whiny egotistical self, she decided to mass murder innocents including children. She literally was a child who thought if I can't have the toy nobody can. Lol
She was a villain. From the start.
DA:0. the last Bioware game
