This game may seem awful now, but when I was 8, and I rented this from blockbuster and played it on my PlayStation for the first time, I was hooked. All I wanted was to play more games like this and I went though the riding club one, secret agent, and the carnival caper. Point and click is so underrated for the foundation it laid for many gamers to really get into the gaming scene. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I definitely played the gradeschool PC lucasarts games, up to 5th grade. Those were actually lit And we had Thief, Halo, and eventually Warcraft III on PC, it’s strange but I really miss the CD format tbh

Best "background watch while knitting" I have found in a while - occasionally it did become a bit difficult to count while laughing at a grow man shouting "shut up" at Barbie.
So I looked at another video, and I think I've spotted something! In a playthrough where the captain was the art thief (because yes, this game has multiple endings. don't know how many, only seen these two as the thief so far), the fingerprint samples the streamer gathered were *different* from what Josh had. My theory is that the game randomises the fingerprints you get for every playthrough! Either that, or the player did something different to trigger this in the game. Further research may be needed. Edit: After some cursory looks at other videos, it does seem to be randomised every time. The summary on GameFaqs seems to corroborate this as well. As far as I could tell, the order in which you do things means nothing. (Which is probably for the best, because you're all but certain to talk to the entertainer first.) However, the 'hot clues' you can pick up DO seem to vary, according to who the art thief is for that particular playthrough.
To be fair, in the barbie universe she is a decorated surgeon/detective/dentist/pro athlete/olympian/fighter pilot/race car driver/spy, the authorities would be fools not to let her handle a simple art theft.
Theory: Becky (the wheelchair girl) has a Barbara Gordon thing going on, being the actual brains of the operation. In fact, we aren't playing as Barbie, we're playing as Becky controlling Barbie. That explains why Barbie is a complete moron - it's easier to implement the neural interface required to control her. She still retains what passes for her mental processes, but is too stupid to notice she's being steered around like a bumper car. She still makes observations, mostly because she vocalizes all of her inner monologue.
I wasn't there for the live stream, I am actively chosing to watch this here on youtube, fully knowing what the VOD is about, on my TV no less, primary monitor content!! :D

I played the detective barbie on the vacation resort or something a bunch of times as a kid, so here's some spoilers regarding the culprit: Yup, it's multiple endings. The culprit is random and the clues you find depend on who the culprit is. They don't bother unmasking the culprit in that game either. They always wear the same disguise and play the same animation, but change the voice line that Barbie says. I thought it was pretty neat at the time that it changed on replay.

I watched about 40 mins of this, and already have couple things i want to say: 1. library on bridge is actualy a thing even now when most publications are in electronic form 2. pocket magnetic compass on ship made of steel is the weirdest thing u can possibly find onboard
Having watched another streamer playing this game I can confirm the multiple endings... Josh's ending seemed more abrupt than the other stream & from recollection there was a big reveal with the pilot of the air racer. The main difference seemed to be their approaches... the other streamer embraced the kid's game mindset & followed the clues, while Josh seemed determined to brute-force it instead. Both highly entertaining & can now (proudly?!) claim to be certified members of... The Barbie Detective Agency! 🔍 Pinkerton's, eat your heart out! 😂

"600 hundred people are spending their Saturday watching Barbie Mystery Cruise.... Are you okay?" I died. I just stumbled on this a year later during an I'm-depressed TH-cam distraction spiral. But I gotta say....this video is exactly what I need right now. 9 minutes later: Oh wait. Josh doesn't know Barbie lore, huh? This will be fun.

So for example if the match is behind the wheel - it was the captain. Then they dumbed it down to one button in the crime computer.
I especially like how there's a neon pink sign covering a third of the screen every time Barbie is talking to anyone. Those interviews are half of what drives the plot forward, and the game doesn't just have a small information about it being skippable. No. We need a huge sign URGING us to skip!
It's no wonder the entertainer is performing on a cruise ship. He stopped trying and is only doing his greatest hits rather than advancing his act and trying new things. He can't even think of new ideas for songs, he needs someone else to think them for him.
