I adore this Shortlist. I’ve read James, The Safe Keep, Held, and Orbital (enjoyed them all). I still need to read Creation Lake and Stone Yard Devotional. I do plan to read the rest of the Long List (I’ve also read Headshot, and it’s by far my least favorite-so repetitive).
I ended up giving up on Headshot, just wasn't in the mind for it, but currently reading Creation Lake! And have The Safekeep lined up next! Not getting them fast enough, but slowly getting there!
@@hasteyebooks I was finally able to get my hands on Stone Yard Devotional. That's my last book. I think Creation Lake is going to be my least favorite on the shortlist. I hope you get along with it better than I did.
They shortlisted all five books I have read! (And one that I was planning on skipping). I'm very happy with four of them, but didn't get on with Held at all, and I'm a bit meh that I'll have to read Creation Lake now. 😂 I recommend Stone Yard Devotional. I think you'd like that. And it seems universally appreciated. Held is a marmite book, you'll either commune with it on a spiritual level or you'll think it's a pompous, disjointed snooze fest. The Safekeep is either a book where you are in suspense wondering what is going on, and then you are blown away by the reveal in part 3 (most British readers), or you see what's going on from the first chapter but you're still enjoying the story (most readers from continental Europe). The ending is divisive, but personally I liked it.
Oooh I love when that happens! I was pleased that out of the 2 I read it wasn't 'wasted' on the longlist haha especially since I loved them too! Still can't get my hands on Stone Yard Devotional so might give up on that one!
I am about a third into The Safekeep and it’s good so far. Stoneyard Devotional is a good book but wacky in places. So lovely to see your video appear❤Happy reading Camila 😊
Headshot is a test of perseverance! I loved Held. It's the first book I read and I just happened to be in the right headspace for it. I managed to find a used copy of Fugitive Pieces and I'm looking forward to reading it. And I thought James was interesting. I just have to find a copy of Orbital to read, and I own Creation Lake but haven't read it yet, though it'll be my next read after Wandering Stars. The other 2 books on the shortlist are my lowest rated books I've read in years 😂 but there's not many people who feel the same way. But that's ok!
haha turns out I'm not very persistent then 😂 I'm still waiting on Held from the library! Did you end up reading Creation Lake? I'm just about 100 pages in and I need help to know if it gets better ...
@@hasteyebooks 😅 I think this year's longlist seemed promising but as I've read through them, I haven't actually enjoyed or considered many worthy of high ratings. I did read Creation Lake... it ends rather abruptly, so you might feel like it was all for nothing 😬 Sorry! It had elements in it that I wish Enlightenment by Sarah Perry had. But it was hard to get attached to any of the characters in Creation Lake and some stuff seemed a bit convenient. It has made me want to read The Mars Room by Rachel Kushner though 😅
I like to write down quotes before I return library books too. 😊
After college I think I rejected that a lot haha but it's starting to happen more and more and realising it's making me more mindful in my reading!
Ah...you've convinced me to read Orbital now.....🥰
haha great! It's short at least so it's a relaxing read I found!
I’m keen to read James and Orbital sometime.
They're both so good!

I have been in the same mood. Having a hard time creating or watching ❤❤
Aw! It's good to hear that it happens to all of us!
