- A first look at the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, chassis no. 3413, slated for RM Sotheby's Monterey auction on 24-25 August, and likely to become the most valuable car ever offered at auction.
This car is the third of 36 examples built, and began its life as a factory test car driven by Phil Hill for the 1962 Targa Florio road race. The car was then sold to its first owner, one of Ferrari’s most favored privateer customers, Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi. The Italian gentleman racer entered the GTO in 10 races in 1962, winning all but one (in which he placed 2nd in class) and securing him the Italian National GT championship that year. Lualdi-Gabardi’s incredible track success with the early GTO, right out of the gate, contributed significantly in cementing what would become the GTO legend and legacy as known today.

In 1964 - the car was rebodied by factory with 64 body style without roof spoiler. Interesting, it confused me when I first looked at it. gorgeous car, and likely a world record price with come.
you are correct,this the series II body which came out gor the 250 GTO in 1964,of which,only 3 of this body style of the 39 total 250 GTO’s in existance,making this,more rare than the 1962 style body.

Everyone saying Southeby's is wrong: No, you're wrong and they know what they're talking about. Do some research first. It IS a 1962, it's one of the four original factory series II re-body cars. Pitty that Greg is selling it. I enjoyed seeing him drive it at local events. Nice send off to take it around the Ridge.

In 1963, Bulgari sold the car to Italian engineer Corrado Ferlaino, who sent the chassis back to the factory for the Series 2 or 1964 rebody, becoming one of only four original GTOs modified to 1964 specs. Chassis 3413 was one of the two long roof Series 2 GTOs that competed in the 1964 Targa Florio, where the 3413 finished first in its class again. ~ Forbes Article

GONZALO CHAVES 3 unidades de la serie 1 fueron transformados a serie 2, siguen siendo 36 en total, sólo que ahora hay 30 serie 1 y 3 serie 2 auténticos con los otros 3 serie 1 ahora serie 2.

GONZALO CHAVES el serie 2 está inspirado en el 250 lm, ya sabiendo eso me es imposible ver el serie 2 como si nada, es ahora un lm de motor frontal para mí, ese detalle por parte de Ferrari es impecable. Por otro lado el serie 1 es el mejor, quizá menos raro que el serie 2, pero esas son las curvas originales que consagró a ésta pieza de ingeniería y arte en el máximo esplendor. Por eso Ferrari jamás será igualado, menos en ésta época dorada del automovilismo.

johnnylyme nope, those are the 330 lmb(3 of them built, easy to recognise because of the 250 gt lusso body and 4 litre v12). This one is a series I (1962-1963) and then rebodied as series II (1964 and only 3 originals) ferrari 250 gto, so we have a 3 litre v12.

Joe Kirkland 3 series I (62- 63) were rebodied as series II (64 models and only 3 originals were built). Wich makes 33 series I and 3 series II plus 3 ex-series I now as sII.
RM Sotheby's, You've spent quite a bit of trouble and money to present this iconic Ferrari to your prospective clientele, but cannot even get the title or description right. This is clearly NOT a 1962 250 GTO. It clearly and unmistakably IS a 1964 250 GTO.
