Thanks Diamond Dave. Oh, that ass puckering feeling when you realize you forgot a critical piece of equipment and you're in the middle of setting up. I know that all too well. I too have brought in new packing systems and have it back fire into my face. Glad you made the most of it. Cheers! 🍻
Your phrases and choice of words always crack me up! 😄 Dude, it is getting worse with me, so the ass puckering will continue! 😆 Thanks Tyler. Glad to see ya around again! 👊
Gorgeous fall colors! The pups are adorable. Loved learning about the Trangia stove. The dress rehearsal allowed you to scout out the sites and time to get in synch with everything. Beautiful family!
We love watching your family outings. We're glad you went back out again, and are looking forward to seeing another of Anita's amazing recipes being cooked in the next episode..
O the joy of camping with dogs 😂. I think I remember a Kevin Callan video talking about those connector pieces and loosing one. You guys did well (at least on camera) not loosing it when you found out those pieces were not there. I think I might have to edit out quite a bit of the video if I was in that position. Well done as always!
Yup, it's mostly a love relationship with our pups, but there are days! Yeah, those pieces are crucial and can easily be lost in the snow, but that certainly wasn't the case with me. 🙄 I was NOT a happy camper. I just avoided filming when I was the most pissed. 😬 But I hear ya! Thanks guys!
What an absolutely wonderful way to spend Thanksgiving! You have a great family and so nice to see you all out together. The pups are a riot, being an animal lover I can appreciate just how much fun they can be! lol Forgetting stuff happens. I have lists, lists and more lists. lol Look on the bright side, you weren't far into the backcountry! Looking forward to Part 2 and seeing the meal! Thanks for sharing. :) :)
In the end, when all was said and done, it certainly was! Thanks so much Jacqueline! I usually have riot with our family and the antics we get into, but my screw up was disappointing. Nonetheless, I think take two was proof things can still be salvaged. For sure, see you again soon! 🙏😊
David, you didn’t ruin anything man. Life is full of resets. Its how you handle them that matters and you did fine. I have a canvas tent too but it has the option of setting up with poles cut from saplings/small trees. I looked at Snow Trekker and too bad, you can’t set them up without poles. Too bad the joints are not bungeed into at least one pole set. Oh well! Nice trip. Great way to spend thanksgiving!
Oh dear... that's gotta suck! One little bit of kit, and of course it's the most important bit! Never mind... you all still got out for the rest of the weekend. Looking forward to that thanksgiving campfire roasted dinner ... yum!
Hey Amy, nice to hear from you! (I bet you're working hard on your series. 😉 Can't wait!) I'm so glad we returned and made the most of the weekend/trip too. It was well worth it, even just for the Thanksgiving meal! 😊
What a bummer David! ☹️ …I do my best, but sometimes forgetting things seems like an inevitability - like that time I went camping with you and forgot my ridge line and pegs! 🤦♂️ Good thing it poured rain most of the time, otherwise I wouldn’t have learned that lesson. …Also I forget the lessons I learn.
Yeah, that sucked big time, but we did end up making the most of it. 😆 Too funny! It happens to the best of us, but it's the resourcefulness and adaptability that makes up for the lapses - most of the time. Tell me about it, reforgetting the lessons! 😬
This is hilarious, but at least you still made it out there. I'm gonna look at that lake next year cause it's only an hr away from me. Watching this is making me want a puppy so bad. I had to put my dog to sleep in April, so I miss having a dog. Been missing your videos.
I won't be living that one down anytime soon! 😄 That's great, you should definitely check out the area seeing you are so close. So sorry to hear about your dog. That is such a hard thing to do. I hope you are coping okay. I struggled through that a lot when we lost Teddy. Thanks Kathie! 🙏
Theres always something that gets forgotten when packing for a trip, you just hope it's not something important! Great to see you went back and had a good time 👍
Hey Alec, it seems to be an increasingly bad habit of mine. 🙄 Most times it is not an issue, but then there are times..... Thanks. Take two was MUCH better! 😄
😝 Yup! I deserved all of it! Usually I have novel ways to come up with workable solutions, but not with this one. But the best one was coming back. Thanks buddy!
Good to see a new family adventure and with 2 new pups. I am guessing Teddy has "moved on"? Since you are on an island why do you have the dogs on a leash? I hope you have lots of videos saved up for us to enjoy this winter! I know where Harris Lake is so I guess you have to trade away lot of wilderness and put up with over used and abused sites. Who would pile up so many grills?? Leave no trace, please.
Hi Carol, yes, unfortunately Teddy passed too young with a brain tumour. It was a very difficult and dark time in our lives as he was a big part of our canoe trips. But now we have 2 rowdy and mischievious pups that are keeping us busy! Max was often on a leash because he was very interested in mushrooms that were on the island and Anita didn't want him eating them. But yes, normally on an island we do let them go free. Although Anita is hyper-protective of her pups! 😬 Coo! Harris Lake is nice, but you definitely have to pick and choose where you go to have your slice of wilderness! Thanks Carol!
I'm guilty of forgetting stuff as a result of reorganizing my packs (which I do constantly). I've started using checklists instead of relying on my memory. Is Harris lake in a provincial park? I've never heard of it.
Hey Mark, as you know, that's exactly what happened as I usually keep all the hot tent stuff together. I do have a rough checklist, but I certainly didn't update it in reference to the changes I made. 🙄 Harris Lake is not a provincial park. It is simply a lake that is a mix of crown land and private property so you just have to be mindful of where you camp, but it is usually pretty obvious. Thanks for checking out the video!
It’s the corners that join the poles together. And you could perhaps make something with some sticks and a good amount of rope, but it’s one of the most critical pieces when it comes to strength so I don’t know about even that. Being an experiment I would have to be rather desperate to try something like that. If there had been two loops sewn in at the upper corners it could be hung between trees with a rope, but that’s a bit late to think of when you’re there I’ll say.
Connie, I tried to come up with a workable solution, as I often do. (I'm pretty good with this.) But this would take a lot of time and lots of rope/trees in the vicinity and still may not be great. The biggest worry was also having a woodstove that would have created more risks. In the end it just wasn't worth it. (The piece of metal was three pronged and is a crucial piece of gear for the set up.) The fellow commenting below was correct in this assessment as well.
Even a failed trip makes unforgettable memories, And yall still salvaged the trip.
You bet! It will go down in our family as a canoe trip I almost messed up! 😬😆 But yeah, take two was proof things can be turned around. Thanks buddy!
We miss your videos……….you always did an outstanding job!
Love the pups... I think they enjoy it almost as much as us.
Thanks Ron! Yeah, these two rascals love it out there and they give us a lot of laughs and grey hairs, but we love it too! 😊
Thanks Diamond Dave. Oh, that ass puckering feeling when you realize you forgot a critical piece of equipment and you're in the middle of setting up. I know that all too well. I too have brought in new packing systems and have it back fire into my face. Glad you made the most of it. Cheers! 🍻

Beautiful family!
Thanks so much Linda! The colours were still spectacular and relieved we still made the most of the trip with the family!
We love watching your family outings. We're glad you went back out again, and are looking forward to seeing another of Anita's amazing recipes being cooked in the next episode..
Thanks Bill! Nice to throw in a normal family canoe trip, lol. Coming up!
Nice thanksgiving trip, once it got going :) All part of the adventure!
Love the puppies 🐶
😄 Yeah, it did get better! The pups are awesome, despite the antics. Thanks Zamy!
Good for you guys going back the next day! That first cup of coffee at camp made it all worth it☕☕
It took a little convincing, but I was happy we did too! You know all about the coffee! 😉 Thanks Wade!
Great video...Great Music too! Tasty looking food. Not a great start to the trip but all's well when there is good food and great company.
Thanks a lot Jimmy! Yeah, rough start for sure, but it gets better! 😉😄
Props to you to continue filming after heading home. Glad you camp back!
Thanks Jay! I was questioning it alright, but glad I did as it turned out to be useful in the continuity to the video, despite not wanting to.
Thanks for sharing.
Anytime buddy! 🙏

Time for some Gingko buddy.🤪👍🇨🇦
😂😝 You bet!!!! Too funny.
Yep, I would have been so mad! At you 🤣 Looks like you guys saved the outing, all good in the end right?
See ya David🍻

Thanks for sharing. Question is that area all crown land
Anytime Stephen! Yes. It is actually a mix of private and crown land. Hope this helps.

Harald, thanks for your assessment. You are indeed correct!
Its funny how you can pac for a big trip and yet you screw up a little one.just wasnt your day.
Totally!!! We certainly packed lots but it was the straw that broke the camel's back! 😆
