  • "TWO: A STORY OF LOVE"
In my Senior Year at Lindbergh Senior High School a Film Studies Class was offered. I had already been reading everything I could find about Films and Filmmaking since the 8th Grade, which was pretty slim back then.
I signed up for the class and then got out of it after a few days because I already knew more than the teacher.
I took and advanced Creative Writing Class and told the teacher Rebecca Simpson that I wanted to write a film script and film it to see how much the finished film would compare with the written film I started out with. It was an incredible learning experience.
The students in the film class almost entirely made their films during the Christmas-New Years break, largely improvising them, and were very short.
Privately, I wanted to show them up.
Brooks Payne and Kathy Gudermuth heard about the film and came to me about being in it, both being in the Drama Class, which was great.
My best friend Mike Newmann filmed most of the film with me.
Unlike the film school group, we shot our film on a schedule over 3 or 4 weekends, even getting permission from a nearby hospital to film there!
Most of the film students' film were shot on 1 or 2 rolls of Super-8mm film and "edited in-camera."
We shot 20 rolls of film, which I edited over the Holiday Break.
Their films were mostly not written ahead of time and ran 2-6 or so minutes.
This was entirely written and came in at over 17 minutes.
The music is from Claude Lelouch's films A MAND AND A WOMAN and VIVRE POR VIVRE, composed by Francis Lai.
I was hugely influence by French films by Claude Lelouch and Francois Truffaut.
The one terrible thing about my film were the titles--unreadable!
I went onto a career as a TV News Cameraman and "fixed" the titles.
The music is replaced exactly as it was in the high school film and used as an homage to French Cinema.
