  • A few weeks back we showed you the first initial video with this 1972 Pontiac Ventura II as it came to us with quite a few woes and in need of sorting out. With that first opportunity to look the vehicle over we noticed a few things that needed to be addressed, some we took care of at that point while others we had to order in some parts and make a plan. With parts arrived, it's time to get busy!
Step 1, replace the rear leaf springs with a matching set. Previously another shop had replaced one side (drivers side) but not the other (passenger side) which we thought was odd. Why would they do that? Well quickly we discovered the answer and the captured nuts had broken off and spun freely. But that's working on old cars they sometimes fight you!
So, out with the old leaf springs and worn out bushings. In with new. Out with the old air shocked, in with a brand new adjustable shock from Competition Engineering. In addition, new shackles and 3" t style shock extenders from McBay Performance to get our shock travel right where we want it. After all THAT is sorted out, a quick little plug wire set creation and we're back in business.
With all these new upgrades our customers 72 Ventura II is ready to get back on the road handling and riding MUCH better, while it may just be a Chevy Nova with a Pontiac nose... it's still one cool cool ride. Back to the customer and on the road for the weekend, until next time!

Such a cool little car and something you really REALLY don't see on the road very often. Happily even with it fighting us at the end of the "day" it leaves us a WHOLE lot better of a car and ready for some miles of comfortable cruising!

It's a cool little ride for sure and something you really never see out and about. Fortunately the owner likes to drive it not just hide it in a garage!

Great job on the Ventura! Just found your channel - TH-cam recommended it but the funny thing is I live just up the street from your shop and drive by every day. I have seen every one of those cars on your lot and always look forward to seeing what you're working on. You always have something interesting...Maybe you've noticed me drive by in a black 83 camaro. i've got a few things i'd like to do to it and have been meaning to stop by to get some feedback/recommendations. Keep up the great work!

That is a cool car. Sounds healthy. I've had a few of these. They use to be a lot cheaper than a Nova of similar year, not so much anymore. Still cool. Under appreciated for sure in the muscle car world.

We actually really appreciate the weird little cars of that generation. Similar with the later model GTOs! This little thing is a pretty cool monster and you are correct RAPIDLY going up in price right now!

@@LucoreAuto It's amazing how much they have went up. I dig those cars. The Apollo and the GTO/Lemans are similar.
My twin turbo 74 Vega Wagon fits right in there with the weird factor.

@@TheDennisWagner2 there was a 74 GTO at Pontiac Nationals its in our video that's been 455 swapped... LOVE that crazy little thing! Could definitely see something like that in our fleet of fun some day soon.
Vega = cool little weird car you never see
Twin Turbo Vega = Ultra cool weird car! 😎

@@LucoreAuto 74 GTOs are still cool in my book. Very similar cars to what you have there..
It gets a bunch of attention. Nobody can figure out what it is until they see it drop a low 8 second 1/4 mile with 2.73 gears. I want to get in some half mile type of races. It's a ton of fun. Maybe I'll turn it all the way up one day. I've only seen a couple others in the country. It's a fast little bugger.

@@TheDennisWagner2 that's serious moving, if you are thinking of a half mile event better make sure it's got good aero and stability! We have a video on here from the Indy Airstrip Attack 2 years ago... aaaawesome event!

Just did this on my 74, i bought the arched springs that give the 22" ride height without shackles,, same issue with shocks so i just bought new air shocks and aired em down to 10 lbs. wish i knew about those shock extenders.
