SailGP not returning to Christchurch in 2025 | 1News

SailGP has withdrawn from hosting next season's New Zealand leg in Christchurch after hosting the event there for the past two years.
ChristchurchNZ said it accepted SailGP's decision to withdraw from hosting the event as the original agreement meant for Christchurch to host two events over a four-year period, while alternating with Auckland.
The Department of Conservation had previously said it wanted to avoid the possibility of Hector's dolphins appearing on the racecourse and the potential for a collision between a dolphin and one of the sharp foils on the very fast but quiet boats.
Lyttelton Harbour was the venue for the 2023 and 2024 events.
