New subscriber. I also garden in GA. The squash bugs and vine borers have been a nightmare for me. Looking forward to seeing your garden grow😊

Hey #397 here, fellow Georgia homesteader, In our area you can get in touch with the uga extension or the 4h office, and they can hook you up with master gardeners in your area. The master gardeners have a plant sale every year.

Oh that would have been so smart! Thank you! I did something similar back in Kentucky but for some reason didn’t think to do that here. Thank you for the helpful advice and thank you so very much for watching! I hope you have an amazing day!

I'm in zone 8a in northwest South Carolina. It will be fun to follow your progress with your garden since we are in similar areas/zones. I found your channel searching for garden planning software.
Here there is way too much sun and heat for lettuce in the summer but it does great in the late fall, winter and early spring covered with humidity domes or layers of plastic during freezes or if there is too much rain forecast.
For the summer, if you can find a cool shady spot (or use lots of shade cloth) I've found plants like cilantro will grow and if cilantro will grow, lettuce probably can. There are some heat tolerant varieties but I never had any luck with them in summer..
Green onions do well year round. Garlic, planted in late fall and harvested in the late spring does really well. Asparagus comes up like clockwork.
I had to use shade cloth over my peppers and tomatoes and basil and I did get a huge harvest of cherry tomatoes and various kinds of peppers which I started indoors... and planted the seedlings outside when the soil warmed up. Suyo Long Asian cucumbers were a pleasant surprise. Last year I planted a few seedlings I started inside and they were constant producers. I planted them on a trellis in a partly shady area.
You'll find melons do well here too- both cantaloupe and watermelon direct seeded. I've had luck with raspberries and blackberries too This isn't even a complete list. There is so much you can grow here The key I've found is keeping the soil healthy and using mulch around plants and putting plenty of basil close to tomato plants to repel tomato hornworms.

This was so very helpful thank you so so much! I will certainly be taking notes, especially the basil around tomatoes because that was a huge issue for me last year!

I also live in Georgia, about the same area! Are you worried about when your fruit trees get bigger that they will put too much shade on your garden? I'm having to come up with some creative ideas for gardening because the yard is on a hill.

Thankfully the way our garden is oriented with the sun this isn’t an issue we will have to worry about! If anything the small forest of pines behind the fruit tree cast the biggest shadow in the mornings. In our first home we had part of our garden on a hill and had began building terraces into the hillside for easier gardening.

@@MadisonEran Oh that's good! My parents got apple trees and they eventually became crab-apple trees. I was told once that you needed to show a certain level of care for apple trees because almost all of them are grafts and those grafts "go away" as those branches break off and the apple tree grows new ones. Did you guys have a plan for your apple trees?
