I have not been crafting for almost five years, from when I lost my husband. What is happening now is I watch you all the time, i have watched all your old videos and I am finding my crafting again. I have been buying supplies and will be starting on some cards when the last things come in. So thank you for helping me to want to craft again.
I lost my husband 5 years come Oct, too. I have been crafting but it hasn't been the same. But it is getting better. I am glad you are getting back into some crafting. It's hard losing the love of your life I know. Healing hugs, Brenda
@@brendalawrence6732 thank you Brenda. May 23 is the date I lost my husband. I was at a scrapbook weekend when it happened and I haven't been able to craft since. Maymay has really helped me with the loving way she shares her passion and beliefs. Healing hugs back to you and know that someone cares.
While I didn’t experience a loss as you two ladies, I found myself in a deep depression about a year ago. I, too, started watching Maymay and it helped me emotionally just watching her. Hard to explain. We are selling our house and my scrapbook room is packed in storage so I only have some watercolors and colored pens. I’ve begun to doodle some and look forward to crafting more when we get a new place. Sending prayers your way and enjoy crafting!
I lost my guy this last November very unxpectedly ....it is the hardest thing I have been ever through and the stay home thing we are doing has not helped. I decided I needed to redo my craft room it was a mess and not useable, so I moved to the other available flat spot (you guys know what I mean) the dinning room table. To make a long story short (ok it's too late for that) I have the desire I just have to big of a mess to deal with. I would like to make some thank you cards for the folks out there working in the "essential" businesses. This background video just might getting me started inspite of the mess. Thanks MayMay!
I kinda have the opposite problem: my head is bursting with creativity, but because of numerous back surgeries I'm not well enough to craft yet. Oh, I so want to play! Okay, not gonna think of it as a problem, but an opportunity to stretch my faith! Maymay, I'm a pretty new subscriber, but your hubby prayed in the first video I watched. I knew I had found my kinda people! God bless you, my sister!
So pretty and fun! I like that you only need one. When my crafting mojo takes a break, I start cleaning and organizing my craftroom. Pretty soon I find something I wanted to try and away we go. Of course, I do watch a lot of videos! 😂😂😂 Thanks for showing how to use this brush, Maymay. Hugs and blessings.
I recently put together a box in my craft room, I wrote down stamp sets, stencils and other supplies I haven't used or used a lot on separate sheets of paper. So when I'm not feeling super crafty or just indecisive about what to do I can pull one out and let the box decide for me!😸 I've also done this with books I want to read! It's helped me a lot because I'm terrible at making decisions.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you. I was having a bad morning and came across your video. Your accent and your joy of experimenting has really cheered me up. I have been doing just what you suggested, not straining myself playing with colours, stencils and stamps to create backgrounds. I may use some of them just as is. I couldn't get on with the sponges and had almost given up on blending with inks, I then discovered the precision contour brushes for blending, it was a revelation I now have a brush for each colour. My only reservation with the Pink & Main, is the cleaning after each colour. When in 'the Zone' I would probably forget to clean and contaminate my ink pads. Please keep making the videos, you and your accent are a joy.
When I get in s rut, i love to organize my craft supplies and tools. It always gets the flow going because I always end up playing with everything before I put it in it rearranged spot.
Well, I might have been greedy but i ordered 2. I am horrible with the blender tools. I love doing your idea of making pieces for later. I have lots of cricut ideas and I will sit and cut out 10 of each irmwn that night have 10 pieces and sit and assembly line assemble them and one day I get a card idea and will make them in as many different styles I can use. I have 15 flamingos I need to use and those blending tools will make some cool backgrounds for them
I watch videos like yours and have a play, so thankyou for your inspiration. Look forward to seeing finished cards, as I often do bases but not sure where to go after that to finish. Have a great day.
Hi Maymay! I just made 2 cards using the Memento Dew Drops and ink blending them. If your pads are very juicy, tend to be more vivid. But if they are at a more moderate juicy factor or dry, you have to go over the same area a few times to get the desired depth or brightness. I am new to the brush blenders and really enjoy those over sponges, and the cards I just made were my first time ink blending with them. The smoothness is awesome, and I'm so happy I gave it a go. But with your softer colors, you have to make multiple passes to layer on color or make sure your pads are full of ink. 2 of the colors I used were a tad dry so it took about four layers to get the look I wanted. I even tried one of those dye ink refreshers as that's what I had on hand, but that didn't help. I have since ordered those reinkers lol. The other 2 colors I used were very fresh and were pure pleasure to blend. I organize something with my craft supplies to get myself in the mood, and even if I organize just to organize, that usually gives me some inspiration anyways. I love my supplies, I love all the beautiful colors of inks and paints that I have, my stamps and stencils; and because they make me happy, just putting things in order or reorganizing can get my creative side lit up. I don't have a ton (though my hubs might disagree lol), but I love what I have. I get a lot of joy from my craft supplies. I also watch TH-cam tutorials for my favorite artists, including you, and I often want to make something like you do, or take inspiration from you but add my own colors or twist to it. Oddly enough...swatching does not put me in a creative mood. I always thought it would but nope, it's a job truthfully so I tend to look at it that way.
When I'm uninspired I basically do cleaning, organizing and prep work of my craft room and other spaces. Like getting everything back in order so to speak so when I get my mojo back, I'm set to go. I'll do things as prep work like cut and prepare card bases by the stacks, fussy cut out images from recycled stuff, clean up the scrap pile by punching images out with various punches I have, starting with the biggest pieces ending with the smallest so very little paper gets tossed.
I love that you tried it with so many different inks and with masking and embossing. You really do get a sense of what it can do. I think the addition of brushes has added a whole new dimension to ink blending. And I love how much easier it is. When I get stuck I go to paper layering. Someone else has figured out the colors and I can just cut up the paper and pop it up on a base and I am done. I think the vibrant colors of the oxides are gorgeous, but sometimes you want subtle and the Pigment ink can give you softness. I think I will use both. I have also used Gina K dye ink and it is great for blending, too. Thank you!
Thank you for the hint to start making backgrounds to become inspired again! Usually when I draw a blank, I walk away and not long after I see something that would look great to complete that project. If I don't think about it, that's when it comes to me! LOL!
LOVE THEM ALL!!! the brushlooks like no effort at all.I love playing with inks, but I dont Have that many..Id go crazy if I let go..lolit was fun, needed this. be safe, God bless

Always need my craft pals to get my mojo going. But with the pandemic I can’t be with people so I have been crafting with my bestie on FaceTime. MAYMAY - Could you explain the difference in the distress ink and distress oxides. I have trouble deciding which I should be using. I have used vintage photo and a linen color around edges of cards to distress them. But where do you use the oxides? Thanks.
Distress Inks are water based dye inks and are translucent and dry quickly. When water is sprinkled on them, the water spots turn a lighter shade. They can be used like watercolors. Distress Oxide Inks are a fusion of dye inks and pigment inks and are opaque and dry more slowly. When water is sprinkled on them, the color "oxidizes" and turns chalky looking but don't feel chalky. Oxides are harder to use as watercolors because of the oxidation. They also go on smoother and blend easier. Oxides stamp brighter on darker surfaces. I have both and love them both. I actually prefer the Distress Inks because I tend to smear the Oxides! And I've used the Distress Inks a lot longer. I'd suggest checking out what Tim Holtz says about them. One thing that's great about the Oxides is, you can blend several colors like Maymay did, sprinkle water on it, tamp off the water, use a heal tool to dry it, then lay down more blending in different colors, sprinkle, tamp, dry, and you can see all of the layers - it's pretty neat. Tim explains it a lot better than I do!
I watch videos ... I have trouble ink blending because hand grasp issues (my hands are tired from shopping lol) ... was the brush good ergonomically? how did it feel in your hand?
I don't do alot of ink blending but that is beautiful! When I can't think of something to make, or nothing seems to inspire me, but I still want to "craft", I will print out a bunch of my embellishments and fussy cut them out. I love fussy cutting and can cut for hours. I don't have a scan and cut machine (which I sometimes wish I had) but fussy cutting is very relaxing and I love the results! Then sometimes that alone inspires me to make something!
