I just rebuilt my Obuun deck for nostalgia and lightning greaves is a trap (as I learned the hard way) because it stops you from putting the counters on himself to make those enormous land creatures
@@milesbrewis2375 You could just equip them to another creature, then play your land, resolve the landfall, and then re-equip them, since the equip cost is 0. The only downside is that you might need to have some instant speed protection for Obuun while the greaves are unequipped.
I recently found out that I own this deck. That video really helped me find some cheap upgrades for it. I also added a few indestructibe lands to mine. They're really cheap and having some indestructible land elemental go at your opponents is amazing.
Thanks for your ~15 minute reviews. I really like that you always stick to 10 cards, and under 20, and then one or two cards if budget allows, as an alternative to the complete rebuilt of decks upgrades. I'm also interested in these reviews for any of the older commander decks. Would be good to get your 10 card upgrade thoughts on those as well, even more so since the current cardpool can be taken into account.
For the people watching years later, I suggest switching Ancient Greenwarden (10$ card now) for Zopandrel hunger dominus. For almost the same mana spent you will get double the power on your creatures instead of an additional +1+1 on Obuun, it's a bit less synergestic/flavor with landfall strat but it makes some really explosive turns!!
This is one of my favorite cpmmanders from 2020. The best way to build this deck in my opinion is rather than landfall or +1 counters is the focus on power buffs. Doubling his power is essentially quadruple the damage you can deal in a turn. Another great way to do this is elf tribal. Great vid Joel!
Great video. I really like all these budget precon commander decks and I love your budget upgrades. Let's guys like me play something fun and different that isnt just jank without having to think too hard about building.
I run The Ozolith to take care of the +1/+1 if obun dies. Rhada Heart of Keld to always scry for lands. Nahiri's Lithoforming + Ancient Greenwarden + Azusa Lost but Seeking as Supporters / Finishers. Ephemeral Shield, Unbreakeable Formation and Timely Ward for Obuun to be indestructible and thats it 3:)
One card that i added that has been absolutely insane is Ajani valiant protector. his counter abilities buff up obuun so fast and I love it when I geth them on the field together
I swapped Retreat to Emeria out for Felidar Retreat (it's the same but better) and Sandstone Oracle for Reshape the Earth (slightly expensive but worth it - 10 landfall triggers)
i got this deck here I'm still trying new things with it, theres a few ways to play it i figure out, so i just just put cards on the side to see with way is better on how i like it. i like yours though pretty good
What I’m experimenting with rn is Go first to Combat, the land stays creature until the end of turn, so I put counters on it whenever possible. That way my lands have counters and if Obuun dies, the counters are safe.
I have been there, but I realized that the entire idea is to use lands as they could die with no loss. Imagine you use your land with X counters on it and the opponent will block with multiple creatures or use an instant to destory it in any surprizing way. then its gone with all counters lost. But if you only attack with a buffed land that has no counters, it can destroy some blockers and then die or be destroyed in any way and next round you just take another land and attack right again. Landfall deck should have enough lands on the battlefield so that one isnt a loss. and with ancient greenwarden could even play them from graveyard if they die this way and trigger landfall again. sorry i know 7 month old but eventually others come here and read as I did =)
Just bought this deck. thanks for the tips. I like the idea of protecting the commander but wouldn't lightning greaves stop the self target on his landfall ability? or is that a decent tradeoff for safety?
Yeah, Greaves will turn off being able to target himself. Normally though, you just want to protect your Commander at all costs, especially when the Counter can go on another creature
There's no universe in which you put Lightning Greaves into Obuun. Why would you make it to where he can't put the 1/1 counters on himself? Makes no sense. Darksteel plate or something else to give it a different form of protection, sure; I can see it, but Obuun relies on the counters being put on him, much more than on other creatures.
I think if your gonna run this commander your gonna want to run path of discovery this will lean into your land theme and your +1-+1 counter theme and I think you should also run living twister from war of the spark this creature is great in landfall decks and lastly look at maybe spending a few dollars on courser of kruphix this card is really good at well but is still a good budget include
Is this the fun way to upgrade the deck? What about the MEEEAN [insert Joel's evil face here] way? Run some LD besties: Armageddon & Splendid Reclamation. Counters? Check. Landfall? Check. Giant land with legs? Check. Fat Commander? Check. Setting back to stone age your opponents? Check. Under $20? Check.
No it means put them into play like as if they were in your hand. Still can't okay more than 1 per turn but it's totally awesome for fetch lands you can keep sacrificing them and replaying them

Terra eternal would be killer for this. 3 Mana Value enchantment that makes all lands indestructible and its only about $3
What would you swap for it though

Wish the ten cards were on a list that was also linked in the description.

If I had to make upgrades I don’t know what I’d take out, but I’d definitely put in an Azusa, Wayward Swordtooth, and Exploration.

@@jacky_cola jajaa I use indestructible lands, so it’s usually not a problem. USUALLY :P

That's such a great deck I might have to add in that sword
Another great video! Thanks for the wonderful content!
Is there a grouped up list anywhere of the removed cards?
Always wondered how good this deck could be!
What cards would you remove to make place for the Ashaya and Greenwarden?
I personally like using obuun to spread cpunters wide on flying creatures and just attack over everything. Dont even need trample at that point.

Is there a "how to play" video for this deck. I'm probably going to get this (is it too late now?) And would love to know how to run it?

Living Twister is in the deck from the start.
I made him into a Voltron deck its fun
Well, i always enchant my Obuun with Colossification lulw

How do you play lands from the graveyard? You just tap for mana?
No it means put them into play like as if they were in your hand. Still can't okay more than 1 per turn but it's totally awesome for fetch lands you can keep sacrificing them and replaying them
I love this deck
Thanks very much for this man!
So I buffed my deck off this video and now my friends are triggered because the decks op lol
I think you're 6 months late for this one lol
Lmao it feels like it with their release schedule
Playing catch up for decks I never upgraded while we're kind of in between sets
