I have a ska tattoo and anytime anybody asks what it means I play this song to their amazement,I feel sorry for the masses who don't know about madness.
Although always been a mod at heart the ska stuff was always part of the record collection .. it all added to a great mix for the greatest time in music ..I.e the late 70s early 80s .. what a time to be a teenager .. thought it would last forever.. n here I am at 56 .. p.s it has lol
I was a RUDE BOY I the 80s fantastic song loved madness even though the specials were my favourite people talk about racism but back in thei 80s I never had any trouble at tall fro. Skin heads I was black in Essex in the 80s I never got any grief and actually had loads of nice comments from skinheads and they would protect me rather than give me a good hiding😂 I loved the 89s and ska music and am waiting to go to a specials concert RIP TERRY*******
I was a school age punk and loved the two tone stuff as bands like the Specials were pretty punk in their attitude. Had skinheads in my town and they were all deeply into reggae "Littlo" a guy in that group was encyclopaedic in his knowledge and record collection as far as he could afford in the run down seaside resort & fishing village, that's real skinheads.
This album is unreal. When first plays your like “ Yes this is my favourite.” Then it finishes and the next song begins and your like “ No wait this is my favourite song.” This continues for the whole album 😂😂😂
BEST song on the album! LOVE IT!!!!! Takes me back 40 years ago to when I was 20 and listened to this record all the time! MAN things were SO much better back then!
An underrated band as is this song. Thanks for many childhood and even old man's memories RR. Take care RJ, I clocked the other day you're doing some concerts.. fantastic!
It’s just gone noon half past monsoon On the backs of the river Nile Here comes the boat only half-afloat Oarsman grins a toothless smile 😀 Only just one more to this desolate shore Last boat along the river Nile Doesn’t seem to care, no more wind in his hair As he reaches his last half mile The oar snaps in his hand before he reaches dry land But the sound doesn’t deafen his smile 😀 Just pokes at wet sand with an oar in his hand 🖐 Floats off down the river Nile Floats off down the river Nile All aboard, night boat to Cairo Night boat to Cairo

without a doubt mate, the ska/two tone stuff at the end of the 70s was pure class, great times.

That’s because skinheads decades ago weren’t the same thing as contemporary skinheads.
Absolute tune. The band played this at the New Years' Eve party I went to. I was on the dancefloor like a shot.

On the backs of the river Nile
Here comes the boat only half-afloat
Oarsman grins a toothless smile 😀
Only just one more to this desolate shore
Last boat along the river Nile
Doesn’t seem to care, no more wind in his hair
As he reaches his last half mile
The oar snaps in his hand before he reaches dry land
But the sound doesn’t deafen his smile 😀
Just pokes at wet sand with an oar in his hand 🖐
