One thing I just figured out on my own...relay stations (and other buildings) have a topographic map of Appalachia, with small colored thumbtacks in various places. if you look closely enough, you get an option to interact with the thumbtacks, which placed a grey marker on your map. Its a great way to find new POI's.

Train stations have these too with other stations you can interact to get em on the map!

Just Scrap/Junk. You can pick it back up too unless another player nabs it first.
