      I’m glad I saw this comment - I’m definitely getting a canyon, but I’m unsure if I should go for the aero road or ultimate. My potential fear with the aero road is it not being so “friendly” on climbs simply due to the geometry, but I don’t know if that’s way too nuanced to even be thinking about. Have you by chance ever ridden the aero road to compare to your ultimate?

    Canyon need to give consumers the option of choosing bar/stem sizes when buying a bike. The whole “this is the bar/stem size that comes with the frame size” is bullsh*t. They should also give consumers wheel options, not everyone wants to ride 62mm deep wheels.

I live about 200km away from the Canyon HQ…so its not the same feeling like for you oversea guys, I know your struggle to send the complete bike in boxes with expensively shipping prices besides the time issues etc. Canyon is a dediceted dtc brand, so why the common hate. You don‘t have to buy there. A guy like me with a workstand, tools and the will to fix most things by myself is also a targetgroup :) save thousands and put some effort in mainenance. Et voila, bike on. Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany.

That is what I did, got a 12 speed cf slx for 5700 delivered incl tax. Only a very minor buff mark on the flat paint section. Amazing riding, super fast and surprisingly comfortable bike. My man…
    This is what’s great about you and people like you-open minded to things, and willing to put it out there. Canyon is certainly making everyone pay attention, and I hope that means changes for bike shops like yours. I see more Treks and Specialized bikes than anything else, so all they have do to help you is lower that price point a bit. You will keep selling volume, IMO, but if you can buy the top end and the mid tier Canyon for the same price as an SL8…that’s a problem for guys like you. I have both, and the full retail is $14500USD. that’s the cfr and the cf slx8.
    Take the cost of the bikes down, and charge $$$ to customize things like paint, components, etc…
    Wish you nothing but success regardless of how it goes.

    • @GCPerformance18
      @GCPerformance18  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      :) I appreciate it very much, all I can do is mold with the times, I wish it wasnt like this I wish specialized was how it use to be before pandemic too but this seems to be the way. tight squeeze on retailers and big moves for consumer direct

    • @2XFactor51
      @2XFactor51 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GCPerformance18 I agree. I’ve seen at least 5 bike shops close in the last 3yrs, 10 over the last 7yrs, and it’s because they can’t sell enough low end bikes to make that rent. And where I live, the market isn’t as robust for the very top end bikes as other places. There are only 3 shops that I know of that are guaranteed sustainability, and that’s due to either their location, or the one that I frequent, he does frame damage investigations for Trek. The $$$ that he has invested for proprietary tools, or money that he spends to maintain his credentials as a mechanic is ridiculous.
      So, as I said before, I feel for you guys, but the bike manufacturers and companies like Shimano are putting the retailers in a very difficult position, one that is exacerbated with companies like Canyon doing what they are doing.
      Again, best of luck bro.

This bike does just that. I’ve had a seat post clamp issue right out the box but they immediately fixed that. thx for the honest review - I’m a fan of the LBS and Canyon - I have this bike in the SLX level with SRAM force and absolutely love it - and they don’t skim on the components either - all I would say is you ideally need to have some decent mechanic skills which I have taught myself - my Aeroad needed quite a few adjustments out of the box - so not for everyone

I am nor very savy when it comes to bike mechanics what adjustments did you need to do? I have a bike which has been fitted to me so know what geometry I want and the size L fits that close to perfect so im thinking I would only need to fix the seat setback and potentially remove some spacers from the stem? Oh and change the width of the handlebar if needed. Should I expect to make any other adjustments? Thanks!

    Love my Aeroad except for the fact that I can’t get a replacement handlebar with longer stem (that I’m willing to pay for). Asked them about longer stem and they literally told me that they can’t sell me a 120mm option bc they use them on the production bikes. Am I not a paying customer? Oh yeah and it only took them 2 weeks to answer my question.

    • @andrewdullas3684

      Bought a longer stem for mine two weeks ago (US Canyon to Texas). It was delivered in 4 days from purchase. I called, expecting poor customer service (due to internet/Reddit feedback), and surprisingly they had stock, took me 10 mins to sort out. Changing out the bar (only got the center portion, reused the drops from the existing) required a visit to a good local shop but they had it swapped in a couple days from when I dropped it off.

    On the topic of would Canyon be a big deal if other brands were the same price? No, I don’t think so, at least not to this level yet. Their entry into everyone’s mind space was their value proposition, add to that the performance of their sponsored athletes and they had the perfect combo. If Specialized were selling s-works tarmacs for $9-10k, and matched the prices of the rest of their tiers with entry builds coming in at $2-3k, I’m sure Canyon would’ve just been a niche brand for much longer than it was. Canyon just ran a sale on a CFR with dura-ace for $6600 and damn I had to jump on it for that price. If an, s5, s-works tarmac, or slr Madone could go for that money…

    Bike shops need to chill out with Canyon. First deciding to refuse working on a canyon bike is a very shitty decision in terms of business. All it's going to do is push customers somewhere else, while complaining Canyon is ruining them. Second, not everyone agrees it's very ethical and fair to add a margin just because you are an intermediate offering sales advice between the producer and buyer. Not everyone asks for this.

    Canyon can build additional market share by approaching the LBS in selling their bikes. Companies such as Intense has done this and proven positive results. With Canyon offering bikes at these price points they do will / is forcing the bike industry to rethink their marketing strategy and business model. As you noted, top wins has really benefited Canyon. LBS complain all day long about direct to consumer but how has that worked for the shop? It hasn't. In its own right Specialized and Trek have been doing direct sales for decades by opening their own brand specific shops, or flagship shops. Think about this. Specialized owns the factory (mark up bikes), sells to Specialized owned shops (marks up again), and Specialized owned shop sells to consumer (marked up again). Trek and Specialized have done it without mailing a bike to someone's house, until recently.
