The newer version also recontextualizes whole parts of the song through its change in lyrics, the old one says broken house instead of broken heart, the old version questions how she feels instead how how Blitzo feels meaning he is likely talking about his daughter in the old one.
Paranoid DJ wrote this after the Ozzie’s episode, so they had to change some of the lines to fit the up to date timing of episodes. It is infact the same song. Vivziepop just liked the song so much she then made it canon and made a music video for it althought they had to change some parts of the original version to fit the story. Because the original version was made based on Ozzie's episode.
All they did was change a couple lines to change the mood from Stolas being classist to Stolas respecting him and fearing impending heartbreak. They made it less "why can't you see you're mine?" to "I wish you would be mine, but I'm so afraid you won't", to fit with Stolas's character developement in the series (at the beginning, he was def more looking down on Blitz, while later he actually seems to more or less look up to him or at least see him as an equal romantic partner. Not something to own, but someone to cherish. As for the vocals, remember that they're sung by different people who have different voices. The offiical version is sung by Bryce Pinkham. EDIT: my bad. You meant whether they'd literally taken the instrumental track from this and just put in Bryce Pinkham's vocal track and a new music video. Not whether the two were actually related, like the new one being an actual cover or not.
this was actually my first time listening to the original as well :D interesting to see the little changes they made & Alex, ever thought about reacting to “Over the garden wall“ by Cartoon Network ? It's a mini series that consists of 9 episodes each being 10 ish minutes long .. it's probably one of the best things they produced and is targeted towards a more adult audience in many ways. It genuinely is a little masterpiece and I feel like you'd be blown away just as many were by the end of it. Not to spoiler anything but there is a lot of interpretation that comes with it

Bryce has such an amazing voice it's crazy. Especially when he sings. This song specifically makes me sad when you know the story of Helluva Boss.
