The comment section is far more fun to read if you imagine everyone's their own fan-character from the AA universe, arguing and swearing in a huge courtroom with nothing but baseless conjecture and frequent typos... Kinda like a real Ace Attorney game, in that sense.
I can't wait! I'm kinda going to miss the frame based 2D graphics of all the previous games, but I guess it had to happen eventually. LOVE the new music too!
Were getting it a lot sooner than I thought. Awesome stuff! Sucks it's digital only but since the series doesn't sell enough nowadays I can somewhat understand why Capcom and Nintendo aren't taking the risk. I'm glad we are getting it at all. 16+ as well? Darkest game in the series me thinks? Sam Riegel looks to be the new voice for Phoenix now since UMVC3. I'm pretty happy with this.
Hope this sells well, but I am paranoid that it may not because of the people who are persistent on not purchasing it digitally. Yes. you might have your reasons for not buying it digitally, but you will have no grounds on complaining about future AA titles not being localized ever again if it should ever come to that. Also, there is always the possibility that physical copies could get released if digital sales are successful, if you really want a physical copy of this game, purchase it then.
the scans are out on the net everyone. you just gotta know where to look. edgeworth appears in a flashback 8 years before now. and in present time 8 years later, he wears glasses.
Wow i didn't know that, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I wont judge his voice, until i actually hear him say a few lines, but I'm going to miss the old 'objection' voice. This new guy is Donatello... interesting..
That's what people said when Apollo Justice was announced, and what happened? Not only did Apollo sell well, but since then (and Phoenix's inclusion in MvC3) the Ace Attorney games have been getting a lot more attention. If you were to shout 'Objection!' at a game convention, EVERYONE would know what it's from. Especially here in the UK, it's almost as popular as the Layton games!
omg my heart just sank when i heard phoenix's new voice. omg capcom. did you seriously have to build us all up only to throw sand in our eyes?? this is so.. i can't even pinpoint my emotions right now ;~;
Awww man, even I can yell "OBJECTION!" and "HOLD IT!" better than that! And I`m, too, 18 years old, for Heaven`s sake! Japanese versions were sooo much cooler...
When he says 'attached to the console', I believe he's referring to the fact that eShop purchase info is saved to the system itself rather than an external account (Steam, Xbox Live, PSN etc.). What this means is that if the system breaks, is lost or is stolen, then the owner loses all their eShop purchases. If they're luck, customer service will give them their games on a new system, but it would be much more efficient for the consumer if there was a simple traditional account system instead.
You hit the nail on the head as to why they're only releasing digital and yet you still call it "complete bullshit"? Perhaps we should be happy we're getting it AT ALL.
I kinda am too. However, the guy who did the original "Objection!" sound effect left Capcom a long time ago, so it's impossible for them to get him to voice Phoenix again. They can't re-use the clips either, since this game has voiced cutscenes.
Yeah, because that would make sense, seeing as they need a voice actor now because of the animated cut scenes and high quality audio the 3DS can produce. (Also, the english objection has only been around for 6/7 years)
So glad we're getting it. And quite timely too, or so it feels to me. I can hardly wait for it. : ) It's been an age since the last title came out, what with AAI2 not making it... yet, hopefully. Wouldn't it be great if AAI2 and PLxAA was localized soon...? haha. I'll be satisfied with this for 2013. : D
Can't do that, unfortunately, because there will be voiced animated cutscenes, so the voice needs to be consistent. Most likely the other characters will have voices too.
PL Vs. AA is coming in 2013 for Europe, confirmed at last ND and their 3rd party listings for the fiscal year. I think it comes to America in early 2014
That's actually a pretty good point I didn't consider. He keeps saying that there's no reason to buy a single player game twice, but to me, you buy your own copy so you can have your own, personal experience, without having to share your file/game with anyone. After all, that's what it seems like he's saying, because he doesn't want to lend his 3DS to his friend, meaning that they both want personal experiences, so why not get a copy each?
Svensson on the Capcom forums said "We will be confirming details on the price point in the not-so-distant future which I hope will also shed more light on the strategy at play here." Could be sold at a lower price due to digital only..otherwise no point to talk about the price.
Considering that it's already out in a month in Japan it's a pretty tight job they've been doing with localising it. Hopefully this means they've been working hard so we can get the best translation that's up to par with the best of the other games. I cannot stress enough how much i love Capcom's work when it comes to translating the AA series. It's genuinely funny and mostly makes sence in context with western culture, which is what localising should mean :)
depends on where you live.... digital copies will probably be the same as retail. eg. in australia a 3ds game is about 60usd physical but 70usd digital. it's crazy.
It doesn't say digital only, the fact it has the normal 3DS logo alongside the e-shop logo means retail too, if it was digital only then the desccription would say that, but instead it just says 'digital at so and so time', which would more likely mean the digital version would be released earlier
I don't mind the digital download so much as the fact that there probably won't be those awesome pre-order bonuses :< I'd really love a figure of Phoenix. I am, however, very happy that they didn't skip out on it like Investigations 2. Maybe if this one does well they'll make a digital release of that one? *crosses fingers*
AN ENGLISH TRAILER?! *eyes get big and watery with excitement* YEEESSS!!! Nick's new voice will take a bit of getting used to, but hey, I knew they'd hafta change it because of the anime cutscenes. But...digital only? Darn, I'll either have to buy a bigger SD card or get rid of my digital Fire Emblem Awakening...
They didn't. One guy who worked at Level-5 said 'Oh yeah, that's coming out sometime this Fall'. But then Level-5 came out and stated that they can't confirm or deny such claims as of yet.
Thank you. You took the words right out of my mouth. I really hope whiny nerds won't make the higher ups at Capcom think "Oh, I guess they don't like Ace Attorney after all. No more for them!"
We're talking about a Nintendo portable here. They release multiple variations and by the end of their lifespan, many people own anywhere between two and five of a given system (I myself have owned three DSs, five GBAs and four GBs, and I am not an exception here). It certainly isn't odd for someone to want to play their game on more than one system, anyway, and that is -more- true of a Nintendo portable if anything.
I do wish I could add a physical box of it to my library. But the thing I'm most disappointed in is that this is being released outside of Japan when Layton vs Ace Attorney isn't. I'm much much much more interested in what I've seen of it than I am in what's been shown of Ace Attorney 5.
I'm super excited that this game is coming out sooner than I expected but... I can't help but be disappointed at the same time because of the digital release. I'd prefer to get a physical copy to add this in my collection, and to save space on my SD card. I'm still gonna buy it, though :D
considering they only shown Prologue Case we will have to wait and see what happens in Case 1 and over if they bring back Maya and Pearl as their older version considering this takes place 1 year after Apollo Justice.
It'll be very hard to beat Maya, but Athena seems very cool too. She also seems to be a lot more involved in the courtroom (both with the Mood Matrix and just in general).
Not necessarily, though I don't appreciate the suggestion that anyone unhappy with the idea of a possible digital only release automatically thinks it's worse than not having the game at all. I'll probably still pick up the game at some point, though if it is only digital, it's not going to be for a while after release. And has it actually been confirmed that it's only digital, or are people assuming that just because digital's all that's been announced, that's all there will be?
Some of these can actually be answered, with a reasonable guess. Fran wanting to out-shine Miles asked her father about it, and being royalty, as the VON is supposed to indicate, he had the power to arrange it. While Manfred is above forging evidence his secret is having time to work with the witness' testimony, not giving the defense an inche, and controlling the judges with an iron fist. And once again, power, aside from maybe R.W. Fran is intimidating, and the whip represents her temper.
Well who knows since Phoenix Wright has just obtained back his Badge they may have Maya and Pearl return in Case 1 or over. Currently now they have not reveal anything beyond the Prologue Case.
"Historically it’s been tough to attract long term retail support for Ace Attorney titles. With the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies we wanted as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the game for as long as possible. With that in mind we have opted for a digital only release via the Nintendo 3DS eShop."
Capcom's uncertain if it will sell well. This game isn't a huge FPS that appeals to a lot of people. If it's digital only, Capcom won't have to worry about making cartridges and dealing with unsold cartridges. It's a solid business strategy. As much as I wanted that sweet statue that came with the special edition, I'm not complaining. And this way it'll always be available. I only ever saw one AA game, and that one was pre-owned. Remember to transfer your data from your 3ds to your XL, though.
As far as I know Capcom said that they had no plans for an English release of Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney and they spoke nothing of it afterwards. I'm afraid if you're going to prove your point I'd like to see the evidence backing up your argument.
There can still be preorder DLC in a sense. Fire Emblem demonstrated even Nintendo can lock away bits till when they are ready (to hold interest for a longer period or time) and had them put the first bit of DLC for free for a period of time. Capcom could do the latter, have the costumes free for the first week or launch, perhaps release it later to grab the attention of later comers. >_> Damn, now I'm expecting to be hit by DLC even without physical releases...
Actually AA is the Capcom series that least sell, AAI for example sold abysmally, enough for the sequel's localization to get canned. Not to mention this game's extremely quick release in comparison to the japanese release date.
No idea. Here's hoping it isn't a repeat of AA4, being set in the same universe as AA1-3 (likely AAI1 and 2 as well) but having the likes of Maya and more missing. I haven't seen anything confirming that she is or isn't in. Perhaps, it would be a nice surprise later in the game, hopefully not AA6 or whatever they call it. It's been a LONG time since we had the main cast together, at least if we ignore the Investigations games which don't get localised often enough.
Yes they do, as long as you have it registered on Club Nintendo, the 3DS itself and you might need the receipt (I'm not sure of this though as I have not had to do this.) If you do not have the 3DS because it has been lost or stolen, you can go the police department in your town and file out a police report for either a lost or stolen item as long as you have the serial number.
Sir. I believe you forget that the first 3 games were very focused on supernatural occurances such as ghosts and spirit mediums. I think this'll be fun. It's just like a real court case, in the sense that a witness' emotions can really betray him, if not kept in check.
Digital has the benefits of -Purchase as long as the online shop is active -convenience of not having to search for the case -lower costs than retail Reselling sealed copies is often anticonsumer especially when the company doesn't produce it anymore and you are still collecting the game regardless of the format. Frankly because not enough people buy it retail, companies can't sell it retail. Very niche titles that are going to sell poorly anyways don't count as there is a small single shipment
You guys. It probably wasn't a decision between digital or physical; it was a decision between digital, and not releasing it at all. They didn't even bother releasing Investigations 2 or Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney because they weren't going to make any money; be happy we're even getting the game.
Technically, Level 5 don't have to conform to releasing a year after an AA game. I imagine a Spring 2014 EU release for VS, Summer 2014 for US, because of the release dates for Layton 6
I honestly don't know if the eShop would work if I had it set for Argentina, myself. My 3DS is set for USA. Of course, there's still the little problem of not having a credit card, and eShop prepaid cards flat out not existing here. I'd say there's more than good enough reason to complain, myself.
Stop misinterpreting my arguments. They are as clear as clear can be. You know what I said, so you shouldn't have too much trouble working out what I meant unless you're deliberately misreading my comments. As I said, think what you want. If it's fine with you, whatever. That doesn't change the facts.
My point is, Apollo Justice proved there was still demand for more Ace Attorney. And considering how many fans complained about 'hippie Phoenix', there was a lot of demand for a new Phoenix Wright game. Also, I don't think it's fair to judge a game's popularity based on a spin-off not being released in the West. Since Apollo Justice, the AA games have only gotten more attention, more fans and more demand for a sequel. I just feel like AA deserves more than digital only, and so do the fans.
I'm not going to get into a debate over whether what Capcom said is true. As for the purchases being tied to the 3DS, do you know about sharing cartridges with friends, or with siblings if you have more than 1 console? I know for sure that most people aren't thrilled about having to buy a game twice.
The best present I could have gotten was this announcement. Thanks for the birthday gift, Capcom.
I'll be getting used to Phoenix's new objection but man this is awesome to see it's coming out this year. Good day today. :-)
omgomgomg so excited :D Autumn 2013, that's sooner than I expected
I’ll always have the 2d sprites in my heart, but damn these animations are hella smooth
I cannot contain the excitement this trailer has given me. My faith in humanity... is restored.
Hope this sells well, but I am paranoid that it may not because of the people who are persistent on not purchasing it digitally.
Yes. you might have your reasons for not buying it digitally, but you will have no grounds on complaining about future AA titles not being localized ever again if it should ever come to that.

THANK YOU CAPCOM FOR LOCALIZING THIS!!!!
I had no idea this was digital only. This will be one of the few I get like that then.
It has never been a popular serie and I can see why it's not going retail, I'm glad it's even coming
Wow i didn't know that, thanks for clearing that up. I guess I wont judge his voice, until i actually hear him say a few lines, but I'm going to miss the old 'objection' voice. This new guy is Donatello... interesting..
The fandom includes everyone who enjoys the series, not just the people you want to like.
That's what people said when Apollo Justice was announced, and what happened? If you were to shout 'Objection!' at a game convention, EVERYONE would know what it's from. Especially here in the UK, it's almost as popular as the Layton games!
I'll kind of miss playing as Apollo but it's good to see ol' Phoenix back in action. I can't wait for this!
omg my heart just sank when i heard phoenix's new voice. omg capcom. did you seriously have to build us all up only to throw sand in our eyes?? this is so.. i can't even pinpoint my emotions right now ;~;
pearls is in the game. Dont see why Maya wont be. She probably wont do much so pretty much a cameo :S
One guy said it was being released in the West, but since then Level 5 stated that they're not confirming a western release as of yet.
Awww man, even I can yell "OBJECTION!" and "HOLD IT!" better than that! And I`m, too, 18 years old, for Heaven`s sake!

I'm more than fine with it being digital only. I enjoy Phoenix Wright games so the fact that I can purchase it all makes me happy.
It's coming out in July. You can buy it way earlier.
I believe that would be the new prosecutor being introduced in Dual Destines.
You hit the nail on the head as to why they're only releasing digital and yet you still call it "complete bullshit"? Perhaps we should be happy we're getting it AT ALL.
I have for a long time believed i was the only one who thinked about this. Faith restored!
It's coming out in July, yes, but only in Japan. There's no confirmed release date for the US.
I kinda am too. However, the guy who did the original "Objection!" sound effect left Capcom a long time ago, so it's impossible for them to get him to voice Phoenix again. They can't re-use the clips either, since this game has voiced cutscenes.
Dude, I'm just pumped to see Phoenix in his blue suit again.
Yeah, because that would make sense, seeing as they need a voice actor now because of the animated cut scenes and high quality audio the 3DS can produce. (Also, the english objection has only been around for 6/7 years)

thats okay then ill just continue weeping
Returning to the courtroom sporting a new awesome little bang in his hair.
i am excited as hell for this
Svensson on the Capcom forums said "We will be confirming details on the price point in the not-so-distant future which I hope will also shed more light on the strategy at play here."
Could be sold at a lower price due to digital only..otherwise no point to talk about the price.
i love that it's coming out so soon, but hate that it's digital only. really on the fence with this one.

Trust me, i've played the Japanese demo on the 3DS, and the 3D is beautiful, and plays true to the original sprites.
It's like reuniting with an old friend you haven't seen in years. Welcome back to the courtroom, Phoenix Wright. :)
depends on where you live.... digital copies will probably be the same as retail. eg. in australia a 3ds game is about 60usd physical but 70usd digital. it's crazy.

Maya was the next in line to be the head of her family, and be the leader at the shrine. Guess she's there now.

You're 100% right.
Interesting, considering there has been no official announcement for it's release. We've only had teases from Level-5
considering they only shown Prologue Case we will have to wait and see what happens in Case 1 and over if they bring back Maya and Pearl as their older version considering this takes place 1 year after Apollo Justice.
It'll be very hard to beat Maya, but Athena seems very cool too. She also seems to be a lot more involved in the courtroom (both with the Mood Matrix and just in general).
THANK YOU FOR RELEASING THIS IN EUROPE!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ONE :O !!!!
You're thinking about the 6th Professor Layton game. PL vs AA still hasn't been confirmed for Localization.
So, Capcom, how many copies of the game do we need to buy to guarantee that this series never ends?
3. The last scene of the game shown at the end is changed
That is Jin Yuugami, the new rival prosecutor.
Well who knows since Phoenix Wright has just obtained back his Badge they may have Maya and Pearl return in Case 1 or over. Currently now they have not reveal anything beyond the Prologue Case.
"Historically it’s been tough to attract long term retail support for Ace Attorney titles. Finally someone who realises! Im so happy!
Awesome then :D It's kind of what I want to see, which is a Phoenix Wright anime series. It really deserves it.
I can't wait for AA5!!!With AA5 on Eshop, I wonder if that opens the possibility of Investigations2 coming to Eshop as well... I sure hope so!
I miss you phonix wrightttyt ❤
It's coming in America this November or sometime later this year.

YES!!!!!! The game is coming to the US! Now I can buy it by Christmas!
As far as I know Capcom said that they had no plans for an English release of Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney and they spoke nothing of it afterwards.
I'm afraid if you're going to prove your point I'd like to see the evidence backing up your argument.
It will be a long and hard wait...
Athena looks like she was pulled right out of Ghost Trick.
True. I just hope it doesn't take up much space is all.
This looks AMAZING
There can still be preorder DLC in a sense.
Fire Emblem demonstrated even Nintendo can lock away bits till when they are ready (to hold interest for a longer period or time) and had them put the first bit of DLC for free for a period of time.
Phoenix have 34 years, since this comes one year after Apollo Justice.
I CAN'T WAIT
Sir. I believe you forget that the first 3 games were very focused on supernatural occurances such as ghosts and spirit mediums. I think this'll be fun. It's just like a real court case, in the sense that a witness' emotions can really betray him, if not kept in check.
Digital has the benefits of
-Purchase as long as the online shop is active
-convenience of not having to search for the case
-lower costs than retail

Frankly because not enough people buy it retail, companies can't sell it retail. Very niche titles that are going to sell poorly anyways don't count as there is a small single shipment
The only bad thing of it being digital is that I can't buy more than one copy to support this masterpiece.
