The OB-X8 is a synth that just bleeds character and musicality. In these sound demos, I tried to focus first and foremost on making the synth sound musical and emotional, as that to me its strength: ideas for songs just fall out. Hopefully these patches inspire you as well!

And so here it is. As I am in the hunt to complete my keyboard/recording rig with a flagship polysynth, this one just sounds like an 'instrument' and not a machine. I am a traditional player so always approach instruments that way initially. Very nice work here Miles. Love it. It seems nicely expressive too, again from a traditional player aspect.
Great comment! You hit the nail on the head- this synth is so organic and emotive, despite having the same or even less features than other comparable keyboards. It really feels like a special instrument and if you like the sound you won’t regret it!
Beautiful sounds from a beautiful sounding synth! One thing I noticed is just how sublime and lovely the PWM is… and detuned saws are similarly beautiful…a couple times I thought the detuned saws were PWM. Nice patches!
Thank you! And yep you are spot on . The OSCs on this synth are the nicest of any keyboard I’ve heard. The way they detune, phase, PWM it really adds a ton to the sound !

the OB-X8 is a synthesizer that touches your soul, it is the same as when you listen to a Juno60 or a Jupiter 6 or Jupiter 8, that warmth and that bass load that they have there is no plugin in this world that equals it💫💓✨
Completely agree! I've never played a Jupiter sadly, but there's something about this synth the OB that just speaks to me and inspires me. Glad you feel the same :)

Thanks for recording a synth properly, Miles... this one really clears the air whether or not this new OB can live up to its namesake and past. I sometimes wonder WTH other youTubers are doing to their signal chain to make things sound so thin, bleary and brick-walled... but they sure seem to like blaming it on the nebulous "youTube compression" 😆

I do love how sounds so creamy and it managing the polyphony…would be nice if ob/seq will make a 16 voice expansion…dual mode will be like quadruple orgasm!

Awesome patches. Bass Heaven sounds very”subdivisiony” to me. Damn…I have a Prophet 10 on order but when I hear this I keep second guessing. Huge Rush and Van Halen fan here…

Sounds awesome 🔊✨ finally sat with one for 6 hours and im sold. Was wondering if you tracked this clean in your apollo or using unison plugins? You always have a nice clarity to your music. Im struggling with clarity on my arturia interface and thinking about going apollo. Have you done any vids on your apollo? Thanks!
Thank you so much! To my recollection this is tracked clean into the apollo, then just some very gentle UAD Distressor compression and Izotope Limiting on the master. But its possible if the signal was quiet I used a bit of 1073 UAD pre-amp.
Those are pretty much the only 3 plugins I use when doing these synth demos, unless i screw up the recording in which case Soothe2 to the rescue.
Thanks for your demo. Already bought some of your soundbanks for other synths. What you sell an OB-6 for the OBX8? I love my OB6 for its filter but I do not use a lot of its deep architecture.

Is it possible to build a "organ" sound with this synth...
I love all it's obvious synth sounds. Well worth the money. Just curious if you've ever experimented with building any "organ" or "realistic piano" or "realistic" string type of sound that sound less synthy and closer to the real thing...

Late reply but honestly, not really, an organ is additive synthesis - you need multiple different sine wave partials stacked at different harmonic intervals. This cannot do that. You could fudge it a bit by just making a simple 2 osc emulation of a 2 bar organ, but organ sounds are better done with digital oscs

Thanks! Honestly they are both incredible. It comes down to the core tone you like better. Prophet is thicker and warmer, OB is more lush/melancholic/pretty. I'd take Prophet for basses and leads, OB is king of pads.
Great patches! For some reason tho, the 8th patch of every group is failing to load! Every 8th remains the init program, can’t figure this one out.

This is weird - I have same issue, not sure if I did anything wrong…
The last patch in each group is missing. They didn't load through Sysex Librarian and when I open each group in the Sound Tower editor it only shows 7 patches. Can you fix this? I'd love to get the full set of patches, especially since I paid for them! ;)
Hey! This is an issue that came up with one other person, we figured out a fix (it seems related to which firmware). Email the email that you see on the receipt and I’ll send you the file to fix :)

The pitches don’t match the keys being played… every thing is off. Are these patches transposed to make playing easier?
Patches are completely normal, I just play using global transpose on any synth that has it since Im mainly a producer and not a trained keyboardist
