    The 1.6 MP camera issue is also often misunderstood. As the camera takes many images per second it essentially integrates overtime. That is not easy (just ask Canon R5 High Res Mode), but it works (also see phone cameras). That allows it to sidestep the issue a lot.

    You've got to try out Cruise although it's just 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. right now, and I'm still waiting for Waymo to give me access. I think you'll appreciate Tesla FSD even more. Although I feel safer than with an Uber driver. Great having your dad's perspective.

    The best part of this would be long highways where you’re on it for like 90 miles. I feel like this car can figure that out perfectly at this point and that’s insane. Most people think of teslas as just electric cars, but they really are the only ones close to perfecting self driving.

    20:46 the texture of the road changed. I think FSD evaluated that there might be an obstacle or smth, so it decided to avoid it. Probably related to the overcautious settings?

  • @aa72on

    The driving in the extreme right lane thing is a huge problem for me. A lot of people park in that lane where I live and every time there is a gap in parked cars BETA tries to change into that lane. It's a delicate balance because I also deal with the opposite with left turns where it gets over way too late.

    Is there no benefit in using higher resolution cameras. I had never heard that they were only 1.2 megapixel. The cost increase for better resolution would be so little that I'm guessing it doesn't affect anything but that's surprising.

  • @MsAjax409
    @MsAjax409 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your drives are indeed impressive which makes me wonder why they are less so in the Chicago suburbs and elsewhere outside of California. Why would FSD Beta mess up a left hand turn at a run-of-the-mill intersection that is rendered on the screen quite accurately? I can only assume it's because FSD Beta does not rely solely on its cameras and GPS to do drive path planning. It also relies heavily on the sparse street map data (MapBox). If that map data is inaccurate, FSD Beta often screws up, and, in my experience, will continue to make poor path choices, OTA update after OTA update. Where the street map data accurately reflects reality, FSD Beta performs brilliantly. Why is Tesla so mum on the role that the street map data plays in the performance of FSD? What is their plan to reduce FSD Beta's dependence on map data?

    What's sad is that we're ceding everything that's enjoyable about being human to the machines. I love to drive and there's no doubt it will eventually be illegal due to liability issues. Sure, there will be hold outs, but it's just a matter of time until it's no longer a thing people do. And this is not like the change from horse and buggy to internal combustion automobiles. Driving is one of the largest career sectors in the world and we're getting to the point there won't be a growth industry replacement to transition to. Technological advancement is exciting, but we're not far from the time it starts doing more harm to human well-being than good. Turns out Ted Kaczynski was on to something.

      I think the cheapest price on goods and the overall safety and time savings makes this worth it. I agree it will be a much different world but I see more positive than negative effects. :)

    • @kenhiett5266
      @kenhiett5266 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmillsap4199 There's something much worse than risk and even death. Apathy is where the human race is heading on average. We're actually already there in many aspects, but we're such an adaptive being, what we've already lost isn't apparent.

    • @michaelmillsap4199
      @michaelmillsap4199 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kenhiett5266 hmm you mean apathy towards driving?
      I'd agree that people are losing interest in it, I think there are many more productive things to do with the time spent driving. I'm with you in the rare group that likes driving cars, but my preferences are on the higher horsepower end and will likely be track only in the future. I'm okay with that if my wife/kids don't get killed by a random driver.

    • @kenhiett5266
      @kenhiett5266 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelmillsap4199 Apathetic in general. Driving is just one issue, but it's a big one because so many people do it for a living. Life will continue to get easier and easier as AI takes over and we're not all that far away from a governmental stipend for the masses. Once AI is able to repair itself, there won't be any tasks left for mere mortals.
      Life getting easier is a really bad thing imo. It seems counter intuitive, but adversity is what makes life worth living. All the qualities I admire in ppl are a result of adversity. If I could choose to live a brand new life 100 years in the future or a much shorter one in the 17th century, that decision would be easy for me. The latter would be consequential, exciting, surprising, and full of passion (free country and able bodied obviously). The one in the future would be predictable, far more sedentary on average, and much more restrictive.

    • @michaelmillsap4199
      @michaelmillsap4199 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenhiett5266 interesting thought, and I'll admit I have no idea what life will be like 100 years in the future. There are too many variables such as population collapse than can dramatically change these outcomes. I guess I am looking at it from a pretty positive viewpoint, but I do think removing humans from driving is a MASSIVE step in the correct direction. A lot of people drive but it's one of the most dangerous things humans do!
