    Aaron, cool man thanks for the shout out. You rule! Hope you dig that KB. Longing to be the Mountain is their 2018 release. My jumping on point so I definitely have a soft spot for it. I’ve got Angel on the wantlist but I don’t have any yet. Not familiar with the other cheesy stuff. Great video title. The Angel kick! Well I hope it has been scratched. lol Peace ✌🏼 Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman

      You know, I don't know if you're kidding or not, but this actually makes sense. I feel like somehow, there's a focus on the instruments on these two records that does kinda work in a way that's similar to what a lot of jazz does, even though neither of these is jazz at all. Now I'm thinking about it.....

    Angel was kind of a dividing line for me; I grew up in a working-class neighborhood of Detroit where being a Kiss fan just came with the territory. And Angel seemed to have this vague connection to Kiss; which got the attention of the kids on my block. Then, one afternoon, i heard their live albums at a friends house - he had been selling me hard on the band; telling me Angel sounded "almost like Kiss". Lol. Well...by the time the second song played - it was over. This certainly was not Kiss. I wouldn't really come back to any hard-rock/Metal music again until...Guns n' Roses. (One notable exception was Black Sabbath Born Again). Hey... Love your videos, Aaron. Always fun, interesting and informative. Cheers! Shawn

      I remember this one kid in first grade who was already into KISS. I actually remember his name, but I'll omit it here, just in case, haha. He was kind of a class bully, and I tended to be a target for those types with my big mouth and all, and I remember at least one serious run in, but later in the year it was like he made a concerted effort to rehabilitate his reputation, and actually turned really cool. So my three memories of this kid are him sitting on my head, him giving me a Wacky Package I was super hot for (that's what I collected before records, haha), and seeing a big KISS poster on his wall. I have no idea why I might have been at his house.

    Good morning Aaron. I too saw Angel as a backup to someone in the seventies. Could it have been Aerosmith? I just checked my stubs. It was Styx in the late seventies. I remember them being dressed up in all white. Now I did not want to see the Styx show. But I had to take my niece who was a huge fan. I never listened to them and still haven't to this day. But they had a huge fan base. I respect their music and career. But they were not my thing. Wow. Crazy how some of the bands 'Alpha Centauri' used to dress. You turned me onto Soul Grinder. After you showed the "Prophecy Of Blight". I went and grabbed a copy. I dig it. Dog Soldier is next on my list to check out. Got to cut out here. Work is calling. We should be working on Saturday and Sundays and have Monday through Friday off. Catch up soon A~

      Dude, I gotta say, I'm not a big Styx fan, but if I had the opportunity to see them with Angel in the late 70s, I think I'd have to take it, hahaha! I'll bet you would dig those Winterhawk albums, but pay attention to what you're grabbing: The Winterhawk that did the album Revival is a different band. (They're really good too, maybe even better than the other Winterhawk, but it's not the same sound.)

    Angel's first two albums made me a fan. I bought "Helluva Band" based solely on the album cover and the fact that it was on Casablanca Records (I was already a fan of KISS) and loved it from the first track. I wish they'd stuck to their prog roots, as each album after that got more sugary.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The first one I got was actually White Hot, so I wrote them off as wimps for several years, but eventually was persuaded to check out the first one. I remember getting that guy out of a dollar bin, but that one had a clipped corner, and neither copy I have now does, so it looks like there was some Angel churn in my collection that I can't remember now!

    King Buffalo freaking rules. I bought their last three studio releases on one order, and loved them all. Lots of "shit gems" from the mid to late seventies. lol!! I love the era of hard rock. Legs Diamond comes to mind. Great video, thanks.

I thought they were boring last time I listened to them, but it's been ages, and chronologically, they were right there in that sweet spot for what I've been looking for, hahaha. That said, the kick is kinda waning, there might be more heavy stuff next video. We'll see......

    Roxcity sounds like perfect roller skate rink music. Oh yeah, our memories are very mallable, and if we experience some kind of fugue state at the same time, they become intertwined because that's how the mind works. Is being Zonked like being Peached? Jimmy Hotz - yeah, that cover would be an automatic grab.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I'm really fascinated by how the mind works, and memory is a great example... it's not often, though, that I'm confronted so directly with one of my own false memories. Being Zonked is much more pleasant than being Peached. Not even close.

  • @JoeTheisen-dy8zy
    @JoeTheisen-dy8zy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well, when you consider the idea that you may have had to “re-code” your own brain many, many times over the years to even hold on to the memory at all, I’d say you did pretty ok just being one town off. Angel always makes me immediately think of the Zappa song “Punky’s Whips.” That song always gets stuck in my head as soon as I see an Angel album. Later

      Ha! I appreciate the generous sentiment, man, but I don't really think I have a particularly good memory: I'm just good at remembering things having to do with music and records. In fact, I love movies, but I just don't retain the details about actors or stories like I can with bands or record covers.

    What's up Aaron!
    Geddy Lee shares in his new book, the guys from Angel would completely skip sound check...and spent the time on their hair!
    Haven't spun Winterhawk in a while, they are a little odd. I mean at first it catches my ear but it seems like they try too hard or something and they are a little late to the party? Johnny come lately? Maybe that's a little harsh. While I think about it, I'll go play some Truth and Janey....

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, good to hear from you too! Man, that sound check story sounds suspiciously like the sort of thing someone like Geddy Lee _would_ say about a band like Angel, if you know what I mean..... but hey, it's pretty funny anyway, hahaha! Winterhawk - Revival was a creeper record for me, I really like it a lot now, but it took a listen, oh, maybe every six months, over the course of a few years, for me to really key into it. As far as the "other" Winterhawk, I've been aware of them on account of the name for a long time, but never really dug in till I got on this "hard 'n' heavy" kick and saw that Cult Rock Classics had recently reissued their records. At that point, I gave them another chance and pretty much instantly loved them. But yeah, they're no Truth and Janey, hahaha!

    It's funny, I remember getting that first Angel back in day and really digging it, then got the rest of their albums in one shot about 15 years ago and hating them...the first is the only one still in the collection.
