  • This tiny house is a craftsman's dream. There is such a high level of work that has gone into constructing every detail of this home. The construction is also completely sustainable with all items of the build being locally and sustainably sourced.
    It's not often you come across a tiny house, or indeed any house for that matter that has been finished to such an incredibly high standard as this home. Perhaps even rivalling the homes execution, is it's design with every inch being cleverly and effectively utilised.
    Better still, this home is designed to take full advantage of being on wheels and is designed for easy transportation.

      It's NOT a tiny home! It's a 5th wheel trailer! Would have been much easier and cheaper to buy a nice 5th wheel. And it would be much stronger and weather resistant on the outside for towing. Not this wood trailer

    • @planarearther8592
      @planarearther8592 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So just because it's not the usual type of trailer you are saying it doesn't qualify as a tiny home? Don't be silly. And the guy didn't want the usual fifth wheel trailer, which you should take no issue with. Try and get over it, since it's your issue anyway.

    A lot of times when a tiny house happens to be pretty darn expensive, people frown and complain right away. They forget to think about the utility bills and other recurring costs of a regular house or apartment. Most of tiny houses end up paying for itself for how efficient it is. I'm from Southern Cali and most of people I know (20s - 30s) pay around $800 - $1500 on rent (apartment) alone. So they burn about $1000 to $1700 a month for about 5 to 10 years before they could finance a house. On the flip side, a decent tiny house could be built or bought for about $60,000.

    • @leilanidru7506

    • @ninewectawski1935
      @ninewectawski1935 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      sam I live in Oregon, in a city that has decent housing prices. I'm originally from northern Cali, but have lived in Oregon for many years now. A few years ago my husband and I went to southern Cali, LA to be exact. We stayed with our friend for the few days we were there (before we headed to Vegas for a week). My husband n I were astonished at how much she was paying monthly for her one bedroom small apartment. ( we have a $300,000 home we pay $700 mortgage) We're talking almost $2,000 a month, and it was only 3 or 4 blocks away from skid row. (If you know LA then you know about skid row). It was a old hotel type building that had a person by the elevator who checked you in before you could get on the elevator. Mostly because of the location, all the homeless around that area. They started gentrifying this part of LA, which meant they were pushing the poor out and moving people with money in. Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is yes the amount of money it cost to build his tiny house really will pay for itself, your less to go into debt doing it this way. On top of our friend paying $2,000 for her one bed apt, she was paying $500 a month for her car, because everyone has to park in parking garages, just to have her car parked. And then tack on all the bills like electric, gas, water, trash, car gas, Internet, cable, phone bill, home maintenance, rental insurance, car insurance, toiletries, credit cards (which many have), Dr bills, (which many have), etc. The list goes on. Just think how much of that long list of bills gets taken out going the tiny house way. You have to look at the bigger picture, the long run of what you will actually save and be better off by doing it like this.

    • @christianabartolomey9285
      @christianabartolomey9285 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nine Wectawski And your backyard can be more desirable than skid row. Lol I pay $1500 for a studio in LA and that doesn’t even include parking. I’m really starting to get on board with the simplicity and serenity a tiny house provides.

    • @ninewectawski1935
      @ninewectawski1935 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Christiana Bartolomey Exactly! Like I was saying, it's crazy expensive. People who watch these videos seem to miss the bigger picture, they look at the right now and not the future. It's also not like these people with tiny houses just one day out of the blue started building it and had all this money to spend on (even though a few were lucky in that they were able to). But most start thinking I could live like this, then they start watching videos on it, start saving money, start looking at blue prints, start finding second hand materials to use ( which a lot use, and it does take quite a bit of time when doing it this way). Then most start doing it themselves which takes a lot of time. So these tiny homes can take 6-18 months to make. You can get a stick built 1,000 sq ft home built in 3 months.
      I hope one day to build my own, with a big beautiful porch that looks over an incredible piece of land.

    i dont understand why people are complaining about the amount he said he built this home for. of course tiny homes are appealing if youre working with a small budget but if you want the quality and sustainability it will always cost more. i see this reaction so much to people who do any sort of craft, the general public just does not seem to value artisans and craftsman as they once used to. also, people fail to realize that location is everything, for me 160,000 would be a dream to buy a home. i live close to dtla and even some of the shittiest houses are 300k or more

    Place 10 of these tiny houses on a piece of forrest, in a way that all the houses are hidden for eachother. Then make a big central structure that is shared in the middle, with a large kitchen + supply storage, Laundry room, a luxurious big livingroom with projector or large tv screen, pool table, large wooden table and a bar. People have their tiny houses for privacy and sleeping and study. But the main part of the leasure time, you would hang out with your friends/Neighbours at the central structure: socializing, cooking food, shooting some pool, or watching TV/movie in group at the big screen. Design the whole thing self sustaining, with people working the vegetable garden and caring for the livestock, this could be a commune where humans live in harmony, where everyone is depending somewhat on eachother and everyone feels valued. People actually can be more happy then they are in our current society.

    For someone who gives the initial impression he is very laid back with hippie vibes, Ryan has built to quality standards, using fine materials and a strong aesthetic. Very well done, Ryan! I liked the artsy look of green ceramic tile backsplash against the warm red of the Western Cedar. Choice of wood is excellent for weather resistance, moisture resiliency, lighter weight, warm color and dramatic grain, and of course, the all-pervading scent of cedar! Nice bath, nice kitchen, excellent roof! I'm not sure that Skimstone is a good choice for shower walls but it sure looks nice.

    • @ctrlaltdisease
      @ctrlaltdisease 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Is cost really an ethical quality of a tiny house? I plan to build a tiny house or at least design my home with ideas of tiny houses in mind. But I wouldn't skimp out on things to keep the cost down.
      Its more about the use of space and efficiency in my mind.

    • @rainydaylady6596
      @rainydaylady6596 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      This is the most expensive tiny house I've seen so far although I've seen them with granite countertops and tiled bathrooms with fancy tubs. I think it boils down to esthetics. People could save costs on a regular home by using reclaimed items so why not high end in a tiny house?

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends, reclaimed materials aren't always available or cheap... If you have to tear a house down and process the materials to be usable in a new build you could be spending more than this house, for example...Especially, if you have to ship the material over long distances...It is possible of course but it's not something everyone can count on and it often means compromising on design and improvising the construction rather than going for a specific dream home design... and it's usually at minimum a trade off on time as it can take years to acquire everything you may need for a house build...

    • @pandjnixon
      @pandjnixon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      A dislike from a "basement warrior", is actually a back-handed compliment ! They are just so annoyed that you've actually gone out and done something constructive and interesting with your life, and they haven't, and are so irked by that fact, that out of spite, they will click "Dislike", to express their "Sour Grapes".

    • @rorirm
      @rorirm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very rude to call someone a basement warrior for having different preferences to yours.

    • @pandjnixon
      @pandjnixon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      + rorir - Quite the contrary ! The rudeness has already been inflicted on the part of the basement warrior ! Any reasonable person would only give a "thumbs-down" if the video actually turned out to be offensive; otherwise its just a mean-spirited put-down, against someone else's creative effort, whether it happens to appeal to any of us, or not ! Hence the term "basement warrior" is aptly applied ! After all, all you have to do is not click "like" if it doesn't appeal !

    • @rorirm
      @rorirm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Paul Nixon, that is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. There are many reasons why someone might click the dislike button on a video, it is not necessarily out of a mean spirit. Imo it is mean-spirited to call people names for doing that.

    Truly a beautifully crafted home using both reclaimed wood and handcrafted items to create a very relaxing and cozy space. I love all of the built in storage. As a person who loves to cook I would add pull down storage in the kitchen ceiling to hold your dry and home canned food items from your garden and even a spice rack or storage for dry herbs. I would add a stove with an oven because if you only have one induction burner you might as well get a instapot or crockpot. The washer next to the bathtub was different and I wish they had talked about it some. The artisan pieces like the light fixtures are gorgeous especially the one in the living space. The fact that he created his home with family and friends makes it even better. Love that he actually has shelves for his books and things he has collected and displayed around the house.
