If you told someone you could get a house in NZ for this price with reclaimed, craftsman-made kauri joinery...they would laugh at you! The respectful, beautiful use of reclaimed, irreplaceable native timber makes it one of the most beautiful tiny houses I've ever seen. Not something most people looking to build a TH could afford, but it's a work of art. And nice to see the guy wants to use his craftsman experience to help younger people like me struggling to pay rent in Auckland get their own tiny house. Awesome work mate, it's a thing of beauty.

Chiron Stearman Well sure, but you still have to buy land. I live in the rural south. I can buy a small house with land cheaper and use the difference to make it off grid, plus I have land for a huge garden.
Bravo! Jeff did a wonderful job building this tiny house. The attention to detail and quality of materials is what really makes it. I've spent much of my life out at sea, living in small spaces and this house has everything one would need to live comfortably and stress-free. $77 US is absolutely a fair price for such a cool home!
Congratulations Jeff. This is a wonderful space and I am sure you will be flooded with requests to build more beauties like this. Thanks for all the inspiration.
Excellent presentation! What I enjoyed most about the presentation itself was that there was no ennoying back round music. People can actually hear what's being said. Nice!
During the epilogue you'd mentioned that this house had a "professional touch." Likewise so does your excellent presentation. ¡Thanks for all you do, Mate!

Beautiful home, love all the thought that went into extra storage under the stairs, the seating that converts to a bed, and the layout of the shower and bathroom. Very grateful for the translation of money and measurements for U.S. viewers. I greatly appreciate that Jeff wants to build tiny houses for people with modest budgets. One consideration would be to construct the SIPs shell and interior framing, then leave finishing and outfitting to the buyers. I don't at all find this home a difficult proposition financially: it's 5-years rent and you're free!
The craftsmanship on this home is amazing. Although this is on the high end of price, there are so many great ideas in this home that could be done using lower cost materials. Would love to see it once it was set up in Hawaii.
lol for sure. the tiny house movement is literally tiny in new zealand compared to those in the states. and I'd confidently say that the majority of bryces youtube views are from the states.
What a coincidence! I used to design the interiors for mega-yachts, and am now working on a design tool for people who want to build their own tiny houses. I'm trying to make it so an average handy person can build their own home at a minimal cost. There are a lot of tricks us boat builders can bring to the table! That shower is similar to the one in our house -- I sloped the floor towards the shower beyond the shower so there's no curb, it drains back into the shower. We do use a curtain though 😉
ive seen so many tiny house show,an buy far this house is so incredible.Jeff you have a amazing gift,an you be hearing from me thankyou for really opening my eyes.
$77,000 for this seems pretty good. I mean it could be MUCH cheaper but literally everything in this place looks custom. I'd say if you didn't do everything custom OR you did the custom work (for those of us who are good with our hands) + salvaging some material (alot of wastage in a reg house would do your whole space), you could build it for $30,000 - $40,000 maybe less if you did it over a few years. Solar is also a nice touch for off the grid (initially expensive though) but if you could rent a lot in a local park with electrical/water hook up for $1500 - $2000 a year it would be a nice home for a 1st time buyer. Not to mention if you planned around adding solar power to it and left some space for it then you could live in it on a serviced lot while you added the solar to it over time. I love idea and will probably make a cabin like this later in life, I need more room currently because I want children.
I think I must have been doing a LBIATH marathon while getting ready for bed last time I 'watched' this, because I could only remember the first part and must have fallen asleep! But watching this and knowing I really loved the portable shipping container home makes me thinking a boat-builder might be a good bet for design tips when I make my own tiny house one day!
I adore the fact you can hop right up on the roof. I feel like you should have that option. Just a really well put together and thought through home. This is almost my dream home. It's a really great space.
This is by far the best tiny house I've ever seen! Wish we had somebody in the US who makes this quality of TH cause I'd sell my house in a heartbeat in exchange for 77K!
I've become totally obsessed with the tiny homes movement!!! I would buy/build one quicker than a normal size house! Wish I owned one of those beautiful babies... This is definitely my main achievements besides happiness for 2017/18... my my my what a beauty 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
You can really see how his experience with boat building influenced the design and his ability to pack a ton into a very small space, even building in storage in every nook and cranny and modular pieces that can be used for multiple purposes.
+Living Big In A Tiny House After watching oh maybe a hundred or so videos, working on yours (excellently produced - thank you!), I'm going to go with the compost toilet. It fits into our philosophy of how we once lived and we wish to return to it. My stepdaughter and I have lived in a variety of very small cabins & we loved it. I've lived in my '71 VW Van for a couple of summers, and other very small home environments. The information you provide via your channel is extremely helpful!
Beautiful interior. I would swap out the swivel skylight window, over the bed, and add a window. Lots of heat from the sun, and no screen to keep the bugs out. Would change the bathroom sink, so the hot and cold water aren't separate faucets. I would also put the laundry, on the inside. Love how he connected the couch and desk. Love the beautiful woodwork throughout the home. Looks like a high quality house.
So lovely! If this and "the Alpha" had a tiny house love child, I would be so happy. I'm not yet ready to be a homeowner but it's my dream to have a fully functional tiny house someday whether as my home, art studio, or a piece of home to take on holiday. Jeff seems like a good person and skillfull craftsman. I should hope to meet him or his equivalent in the future in the US when I'm ready for a tiny house!
Exceptional house. I am interested in the washing machine placement and potential humidity problems? Very much looking forward to seeing your follow through video with how she sets everything up.
I cannot believe how gorgeous the interior of this home is... I love sailboats... I personally have loved the old Hinckleys for 15+ years and tiny homes for 8 years. I would love to have a touch of the boat woodwork in my tiny house! I am in love with this one! My tiny has the same color scheme and a few boat touches like the hatches and "bedside table" storage.
What a beautiful house! In Canada even an itsy bitsy condo can set you back about $200 000. Mind you, that's in Canadian dollars. Not sure what that is in NZ cash. But the point is not a lot of single people can whistle up that amount for a mortgage. I would love to see whole neighbourhoods of tiny houses, full of happy people who can actually afford what they're living in. This house is attractive, as well as full of very smart features. The buyer is a lucky lady!
I'm a realtor in Toronto. A small condo here is now about $350 000! I love the idea of these tiny houses. Sadly we're not allowed to occupy them in the city, and it doesn't look like that's about to change any time soon.
+suvariboy Egad! How is a single person supposed to arrange a mortgage that they will live long enough to pay off!!?? I'm not talking about a big three bedroom condo with wrap around balcony. What if all you want is a little studio with good TTC access? I'm on welfare, and have had to live in scary, dangerous situations. And as a realtor you know the housing situation in the GTA is dreadful for low income people. Where are people supposed to live????
+Sandra Nelson I live on the west coast. Victoria BC Canada, and a bachelor suit to rent will run you 800 plus dollars a month. And that's for a bottom tier one with no parking or amenities included. As a single person I could NEVER in a million years afford to own here. Tons of people from China and the far east have come to Canada to stash their cash away in property, sometimes paying 2x list price for houses in places like Vancouver. It means the normal working people like myself have no chance at all to own our own home.
Beautiful home. I love that it was done by a boat builder. My dream has been to live aboard a sailboat. Alas, I have begun leaning toward a tiny house instead. But, I'd like my home to have the feel of a boat's cabin complete with a companion way.
This is not just awesome this is an amazing art! I have a challenge for you Jeff. I'll tell you a little bit about me first. I was diagnosed with a disease that attacks basically my own immune system. I get sick a lot and I have a wheelchair on standby all the time. Of course bills can be extremely difficult and things can get pretty difficult around here. My question is have you ever built a tiny home with one floor only, with wheelchair accessibility? I cannot do stairs at all. So basically in my mind I have created something like a box. And then maybe perhaps the middle could be a garden I don't know. I won't waste wanted to live in a tiny whom, I just don't know if it's feasible.
+Mary Carlone Hey. I think since you need space for your weelchair to turn there wouldn't be space to put a garden in the middle... I am no professional but I would love to help you with ideas if you want and it would be great to see your final home in the future. I have never seen a tiny house for wheelchair owners but why shouldn't it work? I think it's a great idea.
+Mary Carlone I've seen a number of YT videos of tiny houses without a loft. Just saw one by RelaxshacksDOTcom. (his YT name). Seems to have many amenities. 227 sq ft and looks like it could handle a wheelchair.
Holy crap! this guy,, wow,, hes an artisian and is so mellow about something that is just great, he shows something fantastic and hes like um ya next thing is this other fantastic thing , 0 ego on this guy, and such high quality too. i hope he is very successful making these because he def deserves to be.
Many here do not see the value in this build. At $77K US. it does sound expensive. That is very true, but also 99% of tiny homes are not built to this level of fit and finish.. This really is living in the homes of the rich and famous for $77,000 American Dollars.. I live in Florida in a home built in 1988. 7 years ago we bought and remodeled it. Most of the house interior only received new paint and flooring. New kitchen and 2 bathrooms got the works. We are under 2000SF and put more than $80K into it doing the work ourselves with only about $6K worth of outside help. And believe me, we did NOT fit and finish to this level... And no, we do not live in a big money area... We also do not have solar or skylights or a deck that wraps half way around our house.. That decking material alone had to be over $3K!!! BEFORE the time of cutting and welding the frame and putting down the decking.. Also, how much time was put into the planning of this build?? Those of you who think 77K is too much, well, you try to build it as this is built and tell me how you can get it done for under $77K... (AND MAKE ANY PROFIT)!!!
Dont forget higher minimum wages, geographical isolation and smaller economics of scales make things in New Zealand comparatively and generally more expensive than in the US
also, only 1 guy in the world knows how it was built and how to properly fix it. No replacement parts, absurd weight compared to a similar mass produced trailer. Its cool, but niche.
This was the builder's first tiny home build and he himself said it wasn't his ideal project because he didn't get much fulfilment from building for the rich and famous. His intention is to do it for the personal fulfilment of making homes affordable for young people at less cost than this. Sounds like he intends doing this kind of build to scale in future so the costs should come down. As a first project it's fantastic.... especially for a guy who only ever built boats.
Maybe this is just my ignorance, but also why would one need a mobile home on a small island??? Maybe if the cost is a huge hurdle. Other than that i can't see a reason.
I have watched this before early on in my tiny house viewing. It is a beautiful home. Craftsmanship is superb the technical aspects are up to date. (I know it is 2 yr later now). The stairs are great I can't do a lot of stairs for physical limitations. But compared to others I have seen I could do these. The cost for having someone to do the build with all the amenities. I didn't think it was bad at all. Great Job Jeff. Thanks Bryce for another great video.
dude you have some serious skills.... love the deck, makes it look like if it's a permanent home.... only a bbq pit missing and you're set... the coloring is amazing this is the only tiny home that I've seen that has windows that open out like that, I love that... love that double door... those steps mad skills, bathroom is awesome I wouldn't put a curtain.
The house builder is right about people not wanting to do housekeeping work anymore. It's a point that is rarely mentioned when I see discussions about tiny houses. We all grew up taking for granted that house chores must be done. But we never stop to think just how many hours we spend on house maintenance every week. A bigger house than we need can really take over our lives ... not just financially but also in time devoted to its upkeep. Small house living makes so much sense in so many different ways. It's a no brainer.
Everyones gonna start living in tiny house neighborhoods that have tiny houses stacked on tiny houses some would say thats an apartment... but no apartments are waaaay bigger then these... I live in a 2 bedroom condo with the traditional stairs on the side setup and I am disabled and I cannot keep up with it and have to hire help to clean. If I lived in one of these tiny houses I would have no problems keeping it clean until I'm in a wheelchair which will be in about 15 years. I'm 34 now.
I wish all unique, clever made, and unusual tiny houses with perfect hacks had videos made by you, because there is lots of videos but this is the best quality! Many tiny houses are beautiful and smart built but I suffer to look at those videos.... Please do what you do, you are perfect! I love to watch this channel!
You would think it wouldn't look like an ugly box. Around where I live, you could get a small house, yard and garage for around $30,000. The houses have a lot more style to them as well.
+Alisha Barca lol well it's not where you live. You can live in Detroit Michigan and get a house for $1000 USD, but I'm sure not many people would want that, but you're right about it not being very aesthetically pleasing on the outside. That's probably not what she was aiming for though.
+Alisha Barca +Michael Williams you guys realize that this is in Australia right? where the minimum wage is literally $17.29 an hour. the $7.25 American wage cannot be compared directly. $120k AUS would be a little less than 7000 hours at minimum wage. your $30k USD would be a bit more than 4100 hours at minimum wage. and that 30k house would be a shithole, or in the middle of nowhere. not to mention it would not be self sufficient, nor portable. this dude said he put well over 2000 hours into it. he definitely gave her a deal on his time, he is most definitely not minimum wage skill. also, "an ugly box" ok, so what kind of shape would you like to have, and still be practical on wheels and still be street legal? the outside was not ugly at all, and the inside is absolutely gorgeous. plus all the technology hes got in there. this thing is 100% offgrid. you do not need water or power hookups.
Heneriata Campbell yeah someone else mentioned that elsewhere. still NZ is apparently 15.25 minimum. still the point stands, just adjust the math slightly. directly equating the prices and ignoring the buying power is stupid.
I like this one very much. Very well crafted. It certainly doesn't look so "tiny" and some great little personal touches. I'm sure the client will be very happy living in this. Keep on with the great vids Bro!
2400 hours to build this thing! That's crazy. He can't make a decent living doing that. For that level of craftsmanship he should be charging at least $65/hour if not more which would bring this thing to $156000 just in labour. Of course nobody would pay that much in labour for such a small space so...he's screwing himself. Aside from that, the place is incredible.
Yeah! What a great place to put the washer and dryer! That way you get to go outside, in the rain, or snow or whatever sort of inclement weather is occurring just to do laundry! Brilliant!
+Chipwhitley274 It doesn't snow on Waiheke Island, where this home is. It doesn't really freeze there either, certainly not during the day. As for rain, well, I'm sure you can do a bit of hand washing inside if you get desperate!
not a chance bro. an actual house needs a foundation, electrical run throughout the house for every switch, outlet and light fixture, plumbing, abide by more building codes, HVAC all kinds of extra stuff. in a tiny house you can adapt. so if you're over spending on these homes it's probably because you have expensive tastes and are missing the point of a small home. to me a tiny home is cutting away all but the necessities
Jeff Hobbs is from my town. I have been in that shed and his cabinet making in there is awesome. He does beautiful work from old reclaimed wood.
He actually at first resembled a boatwright I knew when I lived on Vashon Island.
@@jackstrubbe7608 , as they enter the house he mentions his history as a boat builder.

If I ever move to NZ I will give you a shout when I have this guy build me a tiny house. But don't hold your breath bc it will never happen. I DON'T fly and besides all my grandkids are here.
Leon Smith Jr. A lil town in Texas is starting a tiny house town. I think it's called Spur??
N Nuerauter this is not a price in USD, value is much less than it looks like
Best part - The sheep walking around outside. What an awesome happening out the window. Lovely functional space. Smile!
Wow the staircase is so creative!!
+annie46664 I was going to say that
+annie46664 Don't worry :P problems fade before a hangover 👻
+The Conscious Creative I agree but I don't care for it being on top of the stove, could cause a bad burn.

Would love to see it once it was set up in Hawaii.
waiheke island is in new zealand. this tiny house is not on its way to waikiki lol
lol for sure. the tiny house movement is literally tiny in new zealand compared to those in the states. and I'd confidently say that the majority of bryces youtube views are from the states.
I would like to hire this man for my tiny house ! He really have a beautiful mind!:)
I like how he didn't back the steps, it made the space look much more open than it would have otherwise.
Amelia Ryczek agree
Could you give more info on the solar water system. This is probably one of the more impressive designs I've seen for a tiny home. thanks for sharing.
ive seen so many tiny house show,an buy far this house is so incredible.Jeff you have a amazing gift,an you be hearing from me thankyou for really opening my eyes.
Love everything I think this tiny house has best bedroom I ever seen ☺
+macauley seo I think the design is really good. It's certainly very spacious up there!
Thank you I love the house and staircase! Please do another show!
Superb! I agree w/Darren Boss. this is everything I want; off-grid, movable, and so well-crafted! kudos to Jeff Hobbs! top-shelf for sure. peace.
This is another one where it is so great to listen to the house builder. And this is a fantastic tiny home!
The builder has SO much personality!!!😁
This house is amazing - probably the best tiny house I've seen !!
I've become totally obsessed with the tiny homes movement!!! I would buy/build one quicker than a normal size house! Wish I owned one of those beautiful babies... This is definitely my main achievements besides happiness for 2017/18... my my my what a beauty 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
these would be grate for a camp and you could probably make two. that's what I'm going to do
Amazing job. Very professional, you're clearly a craftsman. Would love one of these myself.
You can really see how his experience with boat building influenced the design and his ability to pack a ton into a very small space, even building in storage in every nook and cranny and modular pieces that can be used for multiple purposes.
You should do video on the toilet designs with pros and cons.
+Gravel Trap King That's a good idea! I'll definitely look into that!
+Living Big In A Tiny House and comparing compost vs incinerating toilets would be interesting :)
+Gravel Trap King The Separett toilets are a really good design. We've had one for a year now and we're very happy with how it functions.
Can you just feel the enthusiasm in the tour of this thing?
hands down the best one i've seen so far!
+Sandra Nelson That is Toronto though. Not everywhere is overpriced like that.
+ShanaM Perhaps not, but housing prices are high everywhere and cheaper housing is offset by fewer employment opportunities.
By the way, this photo of me was taken in Nelson, NZ on New Year's Eve this year. I live in the States.
Hello Lydia
+Mary Carlone a tiny home with a garden in the middle? how tiny is the garden?
+Mary Carlone Hey. I think since you need space for your weelchair to turn there wouldn't be space to put a garden in the middle... I am no professional but I would love to help you with ideas if you want and it would be great to see your final home in the future. I have never seen a tiny house for wheelchair owners but why shouldn't it work? I think it's a great idea.
+Mandy Moe what if the garden (like an atrium?) had a little bridge across the middle, for the wheel chair?
+K Gifford Must I doubt that there is enough space fo a bridge (since you just have two sides to enter/exit) in a tiny house...
I want to be stranded on an island with this guy.
I LOVE that staircase! It lets you get up to the bedroom while maintaining an open feel to the space. BRILLIANT!
It mostly wood parts which many craftman cut and shape. It not like the builder made everything. Owner just needs a part list.
Thanks Bryce for another great video.
well worth the wait that is a beautiful Tiny house!
dude you have some serious skills.... love the deck, makes it look like if it's a permanent home.... only a bbq pit missing and you're set... the coloring is amazing this is the only tiny home that I've seen that has windows that open out like that, I love that... love that double door... those steps mad skills, bathroom is awesome I wouldn't put a curtain.
again another awesome tiny house tour! keep it up bro!
+matthew yniguez Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Living Big In A Tiny House gugu
the inside SHOCKED me! very spacious for a small house. I'm impressed. if I didn't have a big family, I'd get one!
Hello Michelle
Best one so far since Brett's place. Side note they still have Mitre 10 back home?
The house builder is right about people not wanting to do housekeeping work anymore. It's a point that is rarely mentioned when I see discussions about tiny houses. We all grew up taking for granted that house chores must be done. But we never stop to think just how many hours we spend on house maintenance every week. A bigger house than we need can really take over our lives ... not just financially but also in time devoted to its upkeep. Small house living makes so much sense in so many different ways. It's a no brainer.
That seems to be a very well thought-out and well built home.
First thing i noticed is the stairs. What GREAT STAIRS for a tiny house! I havent seen winding stairs in a tiny house until today.
I'm 34 now.
I think the tiny homes are great, and if they work for someone and their family that's amazing, but they don't work for everyone.
Damn his beard is fucking magnificent.
looks like captain haddock to me
doggod101 Good lookin’ dude!
What a fantastic example of skill and material's and vision coming together. This is an exceptional Tiny House by any measure.
550 rental landlords disliked this video.
😂😂😂😂. Too bad for them
make it 725
It has become 728
Sadly, now at 750
756 now ..
This is most functional, thought through design and beautiful used every corner of the house for storage. This takes the cake !!!
Loved it !
"It's got a slow fan, and a for a real cook up it's got a fast fan"
"Fantastic"
I laughed a little too hard.
What a talented and down to earth man. What an increadable home he built
jeeeesus this thing is nice
+Shelby and Simon Yeah, this one is certainly one of my favourites so far!
What I love about your video, is it is so professional and presented very well
I wish I could have a skylight in my bedroom!
Again a boat builders knowledge applied in a tiny house build is the unrivalled quality and innovation you get to enjoy the end products as a client .
Looks amazing :3
Great job Jeff I hope your client is happy and that we get to see it in place Bryce.
some outdoor blinds and there will be an extra room...
+Tom Anderson Yes, I see that now, so true! A huge sun room!!
This is my favourite one! I enjoy watching you show us these tiny houses. You really look like you love what you do!!
And it's only $77,000 USD!
You would think it wouldn't look like an ugly box. Around where I live, you could get a small house, yard and garage for around $30,000. The houses have a lot more style to them as well.
+Alisha Barca
lol well it's not where you live. You can live in Detroit Michigan and get a house for $1000 USD, but I'm sure not many people would want that, but you're right about it not being very aesthetically pleasing on the outside. That's probably not what she was aiming for though.
+Alisha Barca
+Michael Williams
you guys realize that this is in Australia right? where the minimum wage is literally $17.29 an hour. the $7.25 American wage cannot be compared directly.
+JamesMichaelDoyle
ah no, sorry its in NZ mate.
Heneriata Campbell yeah someone else mentioned that elsewhere. still NZ is apparently 15.25 minimum. still the point stands, just adjust the math slightly. directly equating the prices and ignoring the buying power is stupid.
It's wonderful to see the results of the talent and hard work of a true craftsman.
4:35 half faced woman with a creepy smile outside the window... scared the bejesus outta me
The workmanship displayed here is awesome. Well done.
77 thousands is steep for a tiny house but the cost of living will save in the long run
If I was to build a tiny home, then I would go to this builder. Beautiful! Wish I lived in New Zealand. xD
i want to see a tiny home with tesla power wall lol
TimeSpace I
As for rain, well, I'm sure you can do a bit of hand washing inside if you get desperate!
not a chance bro. an actual house needs a foundation, electrical run throughout the house for every switch, outlet and light fixture, plumbing, abide by more building codes, HVAC all kinds of extra stuff. in a tiny house you can adapt. so if you're over spending on these homes it's probably because you have expensive tastes and are missing the point of a small home. to me a tiny home is cutting away all but the necessities
save the planet and your wallet
Definitely one of the better tiny house designs I've seen.
