In the first edition, we meet Ekta Kapoor who gives us her first interview post becoming a mother. The TV and film scion and Balaji Telefilms head honcho talks to us about her day, how she delegates time between the TV shows, film production and the Alt Balaji app. Anupama Chopra speaks to her about the Me Too movement, her spirituality and how she views the sexual content on her platform. We are also joined by the stars of her new show 'Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai', Mona Singh and Ronit Roy.

Hats off to Ekta, have never liked her shows but seeing her enterpreneurial side I admire her achievements. We need more fearless women leaders like her.
Regardless of all the negative comments, you can't take away the fact that she has been able to build a very successful business and is one of the few women playing in the big league in Bollywood. Give the woman some credit

I find Ekta Kapoor's business model very chaotic. It's like throw everything on the wall and something will eventually stick. Also FC kindly do a series on the show biz models, the entire value chain of the business (movies,tv,digital) how the production houses run and generate revenues and pls on the move with Ronnie Screwala

Its easier to blame Ekta for the boom of crappy shows on TV than our own mothers and aunties etc etc who whole heartedly consume them.Its the audiences who are making her seven current shows ( or God knows how many) do well. If you dont like certain kind of content dont watch it.

You simply underestimate Indian audiences. If you show us good stuff our taste will definitely improve. I remember a Marathi show called Agnihotra, which had become a super hit and had managed to replace the Ekta Kapoor's shit in many homes. Probably that is the best and only good Indian TV show I have ever watched. It had amazing story, they kept it short and ended it in a year or two. After that my mom again shifted to the usual shit because she had no other option.

But also recognise that I have seen a big chunk of the Indian audience pool whole heartedly enjoys these shows. I think of myself as a informed audience with good taste but I too have been a sucker for a few love stories in the sas bahut sagas. So I don't want to dis on what so many enjoy.
Thank you Ekta Kapoor for making Indian dramas regressive and our childhood shitty.

Let’s give her credit that she is indeed a strong personality who has managed to rule the indian television for decades, whether we like it or not. Plus she is smart to mint loads of money from it and is good at what she does. Don’t forget that all our mummys watch her serials with utmost punctuality. She is smart to do what she is doing. However, it has been 10+ years that i do not watch any tv serial and i strongly feel she has fed the indian parents with a lot of bullshit that they should have overcome by now. The sanskaars, the joint family, the robot like bahu who does everything on the earth etc. Her Alt Balaji stuff on the other hand can easily be termed soft porn.

We may belong to different mind sets, different generation, have so much hatred to her shows but She gets the pulse of India. Of course people not liking her shows are in minority (all of us). There is another India, sadly in majority, who loves what she creates. The numbers speak. The millions of alt Balaji app downloads and high trps. Some shows of hers are good like Bade Acche Lagte Hai, Tere Liye, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh, and Hum Paanch. But I completely agree otherwise, she is probably the most hypocritical content creater in the entertainment industry. Most of her shows display extreme levels of explicit misogyny and the audacity of this woman to say otherwise!

If she is successful, it is because major part of society wanted to see those kind of serials. It was period when due to 1991 reforms many nouveau riche emerging, affordability of television, rich family films like Him Sath Sath Hain we're getting famous and also due to increasing wealth many women were staying at home. Like entrepreneur she knew who was her target base and she was pretty smart in attracting them. So, if she wouldn't have had made it somebody else would have. If you think these shows were shitty, then she is probably just half responsible for it.

TV was going on the right track with Fauji, Left Right Left, Malgudi Days, Office Office, Dekh Bhai Dekh UNTIL Ekta happened. When I watched Left Right Left during school, I had started fancying joining Army as an option. Of course, that was hijacked by Tulsi and Prerna, and ultimately me switching off TV permanently.
Digital and movies content of today is proof of that. Married women have remained on TV while working females, students, youth have migrated to digital and movies in search of good content. We are supporting good content and it is being supplied and rewarded. Any saas-bahu, brainless content on internet will be trolled and wont earn money..even Khan's fans can't digest brainless Race3 or Zero. Ekta will be a failure if she runs melodrama on digital, shes failed in movies already.
Its highly commendable of Ekta for reaching the TV throne, but her major struggle is that she is moving against the forces of change i.e. India is progressing while she is trying all her might to force-sell the old regressive content...this is draining her energy and probably that's why all her hard work is not valued as much. Had she worked along with the times and brought progressive content, Indian TV would had surpassed movies, and she would had been most loved person, hailed as most influential person, instead of getting hatred and abuse from all.

It was strange reading the comments which was filled with so much dislike .But truth is that people do watch those non realistic family dramas, which leads to gain trp and makes these production houses realize that they do have audience and continue to cater. Naagin always is always number one when it comes to trp though its a pathetic show.
