  • Hello and welcome! In this video we will be looking at how to make use of the bandwidth test features within MikroTik. This is an extremely useful tool to test throughput between two MikroTiks or between a MikroTik and a bandwidth test device with the appropriate software. We will be looking at how to configure the Bandwidth Test server as well as Bandwidth Test Client.

i propose to disable lan ports and then test. It will give you info without LAN side, so you can find problem inside network if speed test is OK

      That's definitely a worthwhile troubleshooting step :)

how can I automatically regulate the speed on the network ?
I mean that if someone starts downloading, the speed will slow down.
At now i use only simple que.

Hi there, the thing is...if you download the network bandwidth server tool to your own pc which has an 50Mbps NIC and start the test from the Mikrortik, will the test limit to this? Thanks

Yes, because that is the limit of your NIC which will be the bottleneck. (Also need to account for any other traffic running over the NIC besides the BTEST)

How accurate do you find the bandwidth test to be? I've got 2 x CRS518-16XS-2XQs and I've got QSFP28+ 40Gbps fiber between them. With bandwidth test I can only get 100Mbps TCP up and down and the CPU is at 100%

I generally find the BTEST to be pretty accurate, although I know some people like StubArea51 tends to use alternate tests for throughput, though I have seen them do Bandwidth tests with 100Gbps results. If your CPU is capping out then I would suggest either fasttracking the traffic or making sure that fastpath is enabled so that the switch chip can handle the traffic. Your experience does not sound like it should be the norm. So if those options also yield similar results I would suggest taking it up with MT directly, their support is super helpful

@@TheNetworkBerg Good points. Are fasttrack and fastpath used in switching or just routing? I'm trying to go a bit deeper into architecture. I'm not doing any routing or VLANing for my test, just a layer 2 connection.

Should be 1 connection at a time.
