Epic isn't really a small studio. I don't even credit Fortnite money for keeping them a float like many do. Im blaming Unreal Engine money. Lots of people forget that Epic makes Unreal engine and Unreal has been a the go to engine for a really long time now. Not to mention money from Gears of War and Unreal Tournament and the other games that were out there from them too. Epic aren't new to the industry just new to launchers and frankly don't give a fuck.
And now we can say that the devs came crawling back to Steam, and Sludge Life 2 came out on Steam day and date. Huh. I wonder why. I also find it funny that Devolver didn't really fall for that EGS "trend" in general, but they didn't stop these devs from making a foolish decision either.
Epic Games Store is great, I love it so much. it gave us free games, free games, and free games! /s And also showed us which developers (mostly publishers) aren't worth spending money on.
joe. what you said about not working their way up, that is actually not correct. fortnight while being their most popular is not their first game and is not even their only popular game. they developed the unreal series back in 1998, they then released the engine for that game unreal engine for anyone to use and took 5% of their earnings. that today is still their biggest source of money, they got 4.6 million from rocket league alone in royalties. Fortnite being how big it is doesn't earn anywhere near as much as the unreal engine. if Fortnite was to crash they might suffer a bit but the unreal engine is easily going to keep them afloat. I do agree with the rest of the video though, I used to defend the games store saying it's still new and they need time to make the store great but it has been 2 years now and they don't even have a shopping cart. it is too late and frankly are not living up to what they could have been.
I hate epic but I am done with the bullshit over it. I tolerate it for the free games and I have bought 2 titles on it. I am buying more that I can on GoG. DRM free FTW!
