The part that I liked most in your video is that your wife participated in the fix. She even took the initiative by herself using the shavings for the other hole while you weren't there. Keep doing things like that together and your relationship will last forever. The only downfall is she'll start catching more fish than you do. That's just how it works out for some reason. Thanks for the video brother.
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
If you keep your heat gun close to the repair spot as you're heating up your plastic when you lay it down it will actually bond with the plastic better.. a method I use for.larger real holes Is the melted cheese method. Lay it over the hole heat it until it sinks inside. The pull the original material over the fillerand basically weld it back together for a solid fix.
Next time you patch a kayak... Use the end of the screwdriver handle to smooth out your patches. For holes and cracks. Lay a piece of aluminum window screen, heat it and press it down along the sides with the screwdriver handle. Then cover the screen with more plastic blending with the handle. Press lightly and twist. Hope this helps! EDITED BONUS TIP: Next time you're at Mariner sails or Austin Canoe & Kayak...Any kayak shop, ask them for a couple pieces of HDPE. LITTLE TYKES & PLAYSCHOOL toys like the chairs, outdoor play sets, baby beds etc. come in many colors and are made of thick HDPE. Look for them on bulk trash pick up times when they get thrown out. If you're interested, I have several kayak restoration videos on my channel... I use many different methods for patching because no 2 patches are the same.
@@flyluzfly leave the dust from sanding in place and hit it with a heat gun on the highest setting just till you see the surface get shiny and keep the heat gun moving! It only takes a few seconds.
Dude! I did my first kayak fix with a Frenches Mustard bottle.. like two weeks ago! lol I've taken to say slap a little mustard on that when referring to kayak repairs. :)
Hobie also sales a kit with plastic sticks and a soldering iron to patch their kayaks. Also when rigging your kayak, save the shavings from all the holes you drill. You can use that to patch holes. I have a zip lock bag full of shavings and have used a lot of it to fill in holes left from removing factory hardware. It looks like nothing was ever there.
Home Depot bucket would have been great color for this. Looks a bit orange than yellow. Also, a scraper might be better than a screw driver. Very helpful though.
lol yeah, contractor, first thing I thought was why is he using a screwdriver to do that. this video also shouldnt be called fix a hole, it should be called mending a gouge
It is bullshit! Plastic is not a metal and does not conduct electricity. When you head and melt plastic, an electrical charge will be collected on the surface. Thiis effect is called "surface polarization".

That was well said. I envy that.

I found a steel roller for roofing works pretty good for smoothing out the patch

Fun video, fun people and fixed the gauges!
Thanks man! Happy kayaking! 😉

Thanks! Got some deep gouges from running over rocks, now I know how to fix them!
You will have to let us know how this holds up after a little while of use. Easy fixes are always my favorite. Great work.
I have an endless supply of laundry detergent bottles in a myriad of colors. I wonder if there's a way to make a kayak out of them?
Frenchs mustard bottles work good to - same color
ahhhhhhhh ! great idea!!!!!
Dude! I did my first kayak fix with a Frenches Mustard bottle.. like two weeks ago! lol I've taken to say slap a little mustard on that when referring to kayak repairs. :)
Good to know, thanks! While hot try a piece of wax paper over top to smith it out, might make a better finish product
I have to repair mine. I'm thinking of adding way too much plastic and then sanding it down with multiple grits.
I fixed my yellow kayak with a French’s mustard container. 😂😂😂
After patching I added Flex Seal on the inside. Perfect fix!
My faded Home Depot buckets are the same color
Nice! I also have a very old kayak. that will come very handy. It's orange so the Home depot orange bucket will do the trick. lol
thanks my lady just hit a low unseeable brick wall but luckily it just pushed a small chunk up so i just heated it and pushed it back into the hole
Great idea! Thanks man
very enjoyable and informative at the same time

BAM! good tips
I don’t have a heat gun but I have a torch. Would the torch work if I was careful to not heat it too much?
yes my buddy zoffinger (youtube) does a lot of yak plastic work with a tourch... he also uses PVC pipe for the plastic molding.
awesome thank you have a cracked vacuum bucket.
Right on! Thanks!

true. that color is close
Fiberglass works really well too
Mate, excellent info. Onya.👌
Putty knife works better than a screwdriver!
lol yeah, contractor, first thing I thought was why is he using a screwdriver to do that. this video also shouldnt be called fix a hole, it should be called mending a gouge
Can u sand it smooth
yes! but no time up in here .
Cat litter buckets come in Yellow and the lids are red.
boom!
You guys are awesome God bless you
There are things called puddy spreaders that would work FAR better than a damn screwdriver!
putty knife, actully
@ " actually", actually lol
Good video. Thanks.
Typically there is a place to trim some plastic off the kayak on the inside of a hatch or any surface on the inside. Might take a look.
Has anybody tried sanding afterwards for a better finish?
See polyvance. They have a much better system for doing this and it looks 1000x better when done.
Home depot bucket might be close
Hey Ty think u need to holla at Marty for a better finished product. Hahaha going to try it out though...
he's the diy, make it pretty king... I'm the , if it works , STOP guy!
Shoot I go the easy way. Use crazy glue and corn starch :)
Go to a truck stop and find the corner keepers, all colors. These are all over the highway for free !
Michael Imperioli is that you?😅
yes! I kayak fish when not filming gangster movies. lol
Done like a true pro. Nice,,,,,
Paint scraper works better than a screwdriver
roger that
@@30mofishing and maybe CLEAN the plastic before melting it......
Thank you! Got too much anxiety watching this. I had to stop at 2:15. lol
Ty, will that plastic sand smooth with a fine grit sandpaper?
yes sir! then u can heat up the yellow again to smooth out the scratches...
THIS IS GOOD TO KNOW TY! THANKS
If you contact Hobie you can get the yellow plastic rods shipped to you for FREE!
awesome! thx for the tip
I think a small putty knife would give a smoother spread
yep . just got one... we were in a hurry when we did this... next round will be better.. still yak is major water proof.
Gain laundry soap for green =)
instead of a screw driver use a puddy knife.
good idea
awesome idea
I thought you would have cleaned your plastic before welding it on there. Nice job, otherwise. Maybe try using a putty knife instead of a screwdriver?
good ideas... holding good tho.

I thought tony killed you in season 6
he did! that's why i'm not doing gangster stuff and out here in this shop melting plastic !
