      Is it possible to depopulate those with a hot plate? An IT guy is going to give me some motherboards if I give him the capacitors and transistors off of them is why I ask.

      Ewaste Ben get a warehouse and hire a slave already 🎉u cripping all of Australia p.s. did a gold platinum and silver Investment on your investment video recommendation I try for palladium if I can. Premium was not calculated due to excitement. Of course my 3 investment go down and your palladium recommendation goes up the 1 I missed until later.

    I’m glad you’ve evolved from mass depopulating and sorting crumble to selective picking and sorting. Which also helps the rest of us too! Thanks.

    The axial silver tube shaped tantalum capacitors will have no indentation around the positive end of the body, while silver axial electrolytics will have an indentation next to the positive end.

    great info as always sir, unfortunately no real board buyers here in ireland and as i am a micro scrapper and do it as a hobbie all my boards get stripped lol plus its always nice to get some gold that you made yourself even if it cost more to get than it's worth sometimes. hope all is good with you and really enjoyed

    One of the yards I use takes circuitboards and pays flat rate ,doesnt matter if it's a board from a TV remote or a telecom board. Last time it was at 5 swedish krona /kg.
    Of course I take off stuff,,even aluminium as it pays more.

    Hi Ben,
    regarding the trimmed gold fingers, get to know a contact in a PCB factory & ask to get a sample of the gold checked out using there XRF machine, takes about 20 seconds to measure the gold tab thickness on one of these - I use a Fischer XDAL daily at work, good bit of kit but very expensive. readings in gold thickness ( microns) can be printed in a summarized report to show any future customers wanting to buy your scrap gold 🙂🙂👍👍

    This treatise substantiates what I had since figured. It is a consideration of board value as against what bits to pluck off and retain and what is to be left on the boards. Pluck off this or that and still retain board value or sacrifice board value for stuff on it that you want. Judgement calls with every board being so processed. Not that I myself could tell a flat pack from a BGL, or telecom grade from motherboard, but that is what it is with this. How in blazes is one person going to process half a garage of mixed boards ? Someone help the poor guy ? No, not really. One gets to rockin' and rollin' on it, knowing better than anyone else what the brief exactly is.

    Put a couple vertical pins drilled into your table, or build a fence that you hammer the circuit boards into while removing chips. Guaranteed quicker removal.

    You can't tell If there's gold inside a chip by breaking it. Gold bond wires you can't see because they so thin in a chip like that. What you've been looking for is gold plating inside which is only a fraction of the gold there. Without the plating there's still likely the bond wires. In a board like them your 99% likely have gold bond wires

    flatpacks with radiators are just twice less than regular.
    5gram/kilo in the caps compared to 8-12 gr/kg for 'regular' black top flatpacks.

  • @simonkh7278
    @simonkh7278 ปีที่แล้ว

    Depends on prices you have locally for pcb. E.g. post-2000 mb pcbs are about 1.50 usd per kilo here. So no point in selling it. At the same time we have 1.20 USD for motherboards with removed flatpacks. Kind if quest, sort, evaluate, depopulate

    Use a paper shear for gold fingers. Ingento maple wood paper shear is one of the better ones.

    ben have you given any thought to collecting the solder (i use a putty knife) left behind on the boards after you remove bgas? with the amount of boards you go through you would fill up a jar up rather quickly. i started a jar about a week ago that already has 200 grams in it, altho theres a few tiny mlcc's in it too that also came off the boards while tapping the putty knife. but thats ok, they might have silver solder on them too. its not pure silver but it wouldnt cost much to recover it, acid wise. btw magnetic mlcc's can have palladium and platinum too, its just in much lower amounts.

    • @michaelplus-trojan_dc8687
      @michaelplus-trojan_dc8687 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cody'slab actually did a video on refining silver solder. He came to the conclusion that the materials are more expensive then the reward. The silver solder usually only has enough silver in it to say there is silver in it basically

  • @thadofalltrades

    I wonder if you could use a hotplate or heated sand to depopulate those boards. Heat em up and just pluck the stuff off.

  • @glennbruce5567
    @glennbruce5567 ปีที่แล้ว

    As time has gone on then boards have become cheaper and more cheaply made, now in UK I can sell high grade boards, but the buyers only want large quantities like 100kg which takes a long time to build up as a general scrapper. The rest I just take what I can like copper and aluminium, then they go into shred.
