Man I hate that they didn't paint the whole tiles. Now it looks like the island is covered in mud.

personally i think of it this way: i can either buy this, then have some cool catan games and easy setup. or you can buy a good 3d printer + about $100 extra supplies for a better designed catan board, a fun and relaxing project to do over time as you print the pieces. and at the end of everything have a (depending on your painting skills) much nicer catan set and the skills to print out expansion pieces like seafarers and such. one is much more work, but if you are even tacitly interested in learning 3d printing, id say thats much more worth the money.
100% worth it. Just picked it up on a whim when saw it at a game store, and am just absolutely floored by the quality. Everyone who played it says they will never go back to the old Catan again. Now I just hope they release the expansions in this quality, because I would snatch them up in an instant!

You can readily find it for $240, not that this price point screams “must have” either, lol. Cool concept but you really have to like you some Catan to want it.

It would be cool if that Gamegenic Trading Post fitted into that socket in the insert where the card holders go. I wonder if the box is deep enough (I assume you would need to cut the base of the insert)?
Just bought 3d base edition here in Alberta Canada Costco for $90 Canadian. Thats lije USD $70.
Looks gorgeous, the game is marvellous, if I had the expendable income for what is, truly, a luxury, then yes I'd get it, even lacking the expansion material as base Catan is such a pleasure to play. Now my Catan is a pre-millennial copy, back before I sleaved cards and is heavily played out, it could you replacement. But as much as I'd love this I will simply spend half as much, get the normal, un-pimped, game, my favourite expansion and still get all the enjoyment but on a budget. I will regret not having this when I set it up, but I'll forget after I start playing and the game itself absorbs me, not withstanding plastic or lack of it.

For $300 it should’ve had the 6 player expansion and come in a wooden box. No way would I pay that much for the base game.

I'm glad there is an actual box, because if it had what they showed when you see it in store, that is absolutely horrible.
Feels like they really cheaped out a lot of things though, and it's way overpriced. When you compare this to the previous version, completely a downgrade.
Totally agreeing. It doesn't seem that they have to use that much money to create this board.
The perfect example of when more realistic/detailed components don't necessarily lead to a more enjoyable experience. Give me sleek and clear looking wooden roads, cities etc every day of the week. And that is unrelated to cost.
Came back to this I noticed most people stating 300 dollars and licked out I got it for 140 which seems very very good for a deal
I still have the old version with the wood pieces (base game and seafarers). Buying other expansions new just don't fit :(

The frame water looks nice but the general land pieces didn't really do it for me. Also agree that I'd want more than just the base game. Nice idea but a pass from me
I'll go even further and say the land tiles are downright ugly. The forest and sheep tiles aren't bad, but they have a more vibrant green. The others are all so bland. I also have an issue with the towns and paths all being the same material. If they were wood, they would pop more in that bland landscape. The wash just makes them blend in. They should've outsourced to an artist that could've reimagined the look of the game.
I'm just mad that there is not an expansion available yet. There are 5 people in my family and we play all the time. I guess we'll have to wait to get the expansion pack of the 3D to play that board.

So yellow is obviously winning. He has an 8-8 and a 6-6 wheat/ore combo going, brutal! This should compensate for his barren pasture and the fact that the barbarians has burned all ports.
I'm a little disappointed that Tom didn't do the patented dice tower got all the components onto a table at the start of the video
I have seen this Catan version only yesterday. Overview was nice, but I don't think it's worth the price of 300€, but for what I have seen I don't believe making it is that expensive.
It sincerely blows my mind that in 2021 we still have people saying they wish more companies would make an extra plastic box cover that you just toss aside as soon as you buy the game.
I really hate to be that guy, and knowing there won't be any positive feedback to this comment, but that just took me aback and I felt I had to say something. Sorry for the bluntness, but we really need to open our eyes and change some our mentality.
Hey, this is a good point! I guess I was saying I was pleased that I didn't have to deal with the "window" problem in the game. But not having the extra box in the first place is the wiser move, to be sure.
100% agree. When he said that I thought NO! I get so irritated when I see the excess waste of plastic packaging in our products.
Some 3D terrains look to me like a child's 'arts and crafts' product... 'Hey dad, I made an ash tra- eh, I mean, wheat field!'
Those robbers, cities and towns are from the old version of Catan, kinda sad they're selling them at the "3d deluxe edition".
The Spanish version of the game still has those token designs. They are plastic tough and with a little bit less detail than these "new" ones.
Not learning the same lesson as Castle Panic who launched their kickstarter for a giant price without any expansions and had to cancel it. If you're trying to sell a deluxe version to your existing audience, you need to include all the content you've already released for it because your existing audience doesn't want to move backwards by having less content. Same with the special anniversary edition of Pandemic.
Double expansion (Seafarers & Cities and knights) in glorious 3D is coming out this fall. The 3D is beautifully sculpted and I can't wait for to add the expansion to my collection. Pricey biyt worth it if you like playing the game.

I have it, and it is a game changer. But I like my version much much more than this one.

Favorite family board game but $300 with no expansion is a hard no for me
The problem is if you need to randomise terain cause u got nothing to suffer.
last game of Catan I bought was bad. the pieces were warped and didn't fit together was so frustrated with it I threw it away never played it again.
After seeing the price tag, yeah, that's a huge pass from me.
How does the robber balance on the hexes? Disagree that more games should have throw away boxes, we should be trying to reduce wasting plastic packaging on something like this.
Regarding the robber, I would think the plastic numbers provide a place to put them. Completely agree about the waste aspect. Disposable display boxes are horrible and pointless.
These 3D plastic figurines are what you get here for the base edition of Catan. They are painted only in players' colors, but the robber, the roads etc are the exast same thing you get in the base edition. When Tom opened the box I immediately recognized these pieces as these are the ones I've been playing with since 2010. The new tiles look cool, but def aren't worth the price tag

4:30 they needed to do the number placement better on these; I've seen customs which do a better job.
Kinda cool, but should have come with the 5-6 player expansion as well as seafarers and knights all in one and at a much more reasonable price point. Too bad.

I have enough cash to not care about the price, it will be a fantastic gift for a Catan lover. Otherwise I agree, probably a pass.
Absolute no brainer to have tiles with a dedicated place for the numbers and a dedicated place for the robber. Having some numbers in the centre and some offset is dumb. I've got collectors editions and deluxe versions of a number of games but this is a hard pass. The price is insulting.
Maybe the artist wanted to give it an "organic/natural feel" with the variety?

This new version is a total disappointment. I'm a huge Catan fan and a lucky owner of the previous 3D version and objectively, this edition doesn't do the anniversary justice. in particular:
1) No wooden casket.
2) only the basic game without knights ??? Seriously???
3) the tokens are like the originals with only the drop shadows
4) the various areas are painted but of barely sufficient quality
5) the plastic base is pathetic
6) I have seen some 3D printed sets on ebay similar to 1/3 the price
7) papers and cardboard components identical to the basic version
8) in Italy to have a copy, there is also a 22% customs fee to pay

I agree. Plus, once you put on the numbered tiles, it looks no better than the standard 2D version.

Wow. Underwhelming doesn't even start to describe this edition. Do they realise 3D files on Thingiverse have better designs than this? I mean it's painted... but so basicly I just can't imagine who this is directed to.
There are two versions one that can only be painted for details, but there is a newer version that can be printed with different color materials if you have a multi color printer. The first edition if it is painted right, is more beautiful but it is easy to make resources similar to each other and get them confused and the legibility of the numbers is sometimes hard (sometimes the mountains don’t let you see the number). The other version 2.0 is not as nice and unique (all tiles are the same, no variation) but the playability is just perfect. And the roads and buildings fit just right and don’t move. I also did this version in mini for travel.

You aren't letting the camera focus on the pieces. You just hold them up and put them away before we even see them. This is a poor review.
Easy pass on this one. Incredibly overpriced for the base game. The tiles don't even look good. They should've released it unpainted and included a bunch of extras instead. The paint job looks about as basic as it gets.
