Im in tears listening to this, this is very very inspirational.
I’ve blamed myself many times for not doing enough brain retraining, or not doing enough meditation etc. I also find myself walking around constantly monitoring how my nervous system is, how much it’s on high alert, how my breathing is and how much that’s gonna cause more symptoms. Thank you so much Sam for sharing this. As Dan always says, live your life ❤🎉

This is great, its useful to have someone focus on how they felt and thought, since a lot of interviewees focus on symptoms that ultimately dont matter since a/ they're all gone and b/ they were tms and not 'real' anyway, they dont tell us anything useful as such, what IS useful are the underlying thought patterns and emotions and how they are influencing behaviours, as a teacher from the uk who has been housebound i identify with this talk.

She kept it so simple and it gives so such hope that I don’t need to do anything, I just need to believe I’m okay and I will get there. Thank you so much Dan and Sam! I do appreciate hearing this success story....I have a similar story overall. I have gained a lot of practical tips from her story ....thank you! This journey is difficult and yet I know I will someday soon be a success story! My challenge is when I do so many things but the difficult symptoms persist even though I have practiced not fearing the symptoms and I do many things with no conscious fear. Needing som encouragement if someone has any 😊

This was exactly what I needed to hear!!! Suffering with anxiety and anorexia for over 40 years and now chronic widespread pain for the last 10 years. I love how Sam dealt with her fear of food and making choices for herself that worked for her. I give up so quickly. I tried doing all the tools just like Sam and getting frustrated that nothing got better. I can't live like this anymore. Constantly being afraid of every symptom and fearing to eat or I won't be safe anymore.

Woah, Sam! I’ve stopped listening to success stories as hearing other people’s symptoms has sometimes led to me getting those symptoms, but for some reason I watched yours and I’m so glad I did…
Our stories are nigh-on identical apart from the initial trigger (accident for you, an illness for me). I’ve followed your route exactly - the descent from the POTS neighbourhoods to the MCAS ones is terrifying. The long waits for NHS appointments only feeds it as I too spent all day every day googling for over a year. I also then got drawn into ‘intensive fixing’ and pondering “traumas”….
Before an overnight lightbulb moment when I just KNEW that it was simple - fear of and focus on symptoms was what’s keeping me sick. I have such strong views now on bad neighbourhoods, on the brain retraining industry, on wishing doctors were trained on this and could sit people down early and have a frank, compassionate conversation about what’s happening to us. I wish we could have a chat!
I’m also now gradually doing more and more, also always with an escape route because I can see that all my flares have been due to feeling overwhelmed and trapped. I can’t wait to be where you are!
To everyone else: For me, the best book on all of this is ‘The Way Out’ by Alan Gordon. Dr Sarno’s books are great for convincing you TMS is real, but they led me astray blaming it on repressed emotions. I’ve no doubt that’s the case for some people, but if it doesn’t ring true try Alan Gordon. His view is it’s simply a cycle of fear of symptoms causing symptoms. He’s treated thousands of people, cites many scientific studies, and has loads of case studies. I re-read him any time doubt or fear creeps in again.

This was an amazing video. And I *think* I know the brain retraining program she was in based on the description. Regardless, it sounds like a program I signed up for and only got halfway through because it was informational overload... trying to figure out fight/flight vs freeze, which "right" exercises to use for getting out, the parts work, all of it was too much. You're right it's not about the technique - it's the feeling of safety or peace that comes from it. Thank you both ❤

All of this is OCD. We get in this symptom, thought, fear, compulsion loop. Googling, going to doctors, feeling our throat, etc.. is what keeps us in this loop. Our nervous system becomes over stimulated from all of the false alarms and adrenaline. We've trained our nervous system to react to non threats. OCD keeps us locked onto our thoughts. I'm learning to stop feeding my compulsions.

Every pots patient should be given 6 days of Alinia. I ran into a doc who was using this to cure many pots and mold illness symptom patients and it cured me. Since then I’ve recommended to other and know other 20-25 cured. The accident could have lowered immune response in this person in order for a parasite (mostly protozoan) to take hold. There are loooong ways to look at and address POTS but why put a patient through all that and bankrupt them 1st. It takes about 2 weeks after meds end for your body to feel then healing and about a yesr to get back to yourself.
