  • A lot of Americans are making the move to Mexico as many are realizing they can't afford to retire on their pensions in the U.S. Over the last few years, I've helped many relocate to Merida.
    In this video, my friend Angel talks about some of the pros and cons to buying versus building a house in Mexico.

    That first house was lovely and just the right size for me.😊 but a car would be a must living there.

    Thanks for this video Cartess! The time to buy is definitely NOW. Homes in my neighborhood in Cholul are selling for 1,000,000 MXP more than I paid 18 months ago. That, coupled with the fact that the dollar has lost value are reasons to move quickly if you plan to buy.

    What is the inspection process? How do you know the build is good and up to code? Getting alot is definitely cheaper. But then you have to find a builder and deal with that B.S. Something already built may be easier.

      Definitely will require patience to build. I have NOT met a single soul where it was done on-time nor done without headaches and serious frustrations.

    I would like to buy land and build a pretty small home. Of course this wouldn’t be possible in a development but the cost would be awesome if you didn’t need a lot of space doing it like that.

    • @MoveAbroadandThrive
      @MoveAbroadandThrive  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am always checking your channel out and you are always full of great information and entertainment.. I was born and raised and lived in south Louisiana most of my life.. I have retired and I'm moving permanently to the Philippines mostly because of my Filipino fiance and most Filipinos can speak English and the signs and most everything is in English.. I have been to Mexico several times and I've always loved it.. do you have renter's insurance and would it cover damage from a hurricane? If a cat 5 is coming towards where you are living now would you stay or would you leave? I am too old to deal with hurricanes and typhoons so if any are heading towards me I will be leaving temporarily.. I'm moving to the area of the Philippines that does not have many typhoon's but I will be watching the weather closely.. thanks for your videos👍👍🤗🍺🍻😁

      Most folks don't keep renters insurance here... But I understand your frustration on hurricanes (i lived in florida for a minute). Houses here are made of concrete and most all of the homes on the coast are still standing many decades later.

    I love these new houses. I'm so angry at myself for not saving over the years.😢

    Those homes look nice, the prices aren't bad and it's cool that you can choose finishes for the last house. For my taste, both of those finished houses have the floor tiles as the surrounds in the showers, that I don't like. I wish I could live around there but the peninsula is too hot and humid for me.

    • @MoveAbroadandThrive
      @MoveAbroadandThrive  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes... The property values in this area are going to explode. It's said that costco, walmart and sam's club is opening up in the area (and folks won't have to drive all the way into Merida to shop at those places).

  • @crjetpilot

    I LOVE those homes! I’d buy in a hot minute, except that Merida is not for me. Now if it was in a cooler climate… So many gringos seem to be in love with Ajijic but those areas just haven’t caught on with me yet.

    Can you legally own property in Mexico?

    • @MoveAbroadandThrive
      @MoveAbroadandThrive  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Yes. There are some guidelines if you live near the border or live near the coast; but you have legitimate and legal options to own property in Mexico.

    I love the double shower. My husband and I have to keep our eyes on each other LoL (He is 71.)
    However, I have concerns about ventilation, ac, and accessibility (room to room/hallways. It almost seems like a place meant for travelers, rather than people who want to make it home. I have my personal funds ready to buy the right property for us. I am also a veteran 💪🏽🪖

    Do you have to enter those bedrooms from outside?
    There is no interior hallway inside the house to access the bedrooms?

    How come the bathrooms dont have vents for air circulation?.
    On that last house, you have to go outside to get to the back master suite? Thats odd.

    I can get 2 to 10 acres in the US for 40,000. which is far cheaper than what you are buying and I get emerances services. If you are moving to Mexico stop paying more for homes than in the US. I understand that some places in the US are expensive but most of the US is cheaper than Mexico. Why pay more for less.

      I would love it if Angel would do another video with you explaining how to find the right builder.
      And will that builder be on site to make sure his crew shows up and doesn’t cut corners?
      It seems everyone I know that builds says it takes at least a year.
      Often they over promise and under deliver ‘ I hear.’
      I love how Angel holds their feet to the fire when he is asking direct questions to get the accurate information.
      I am so scared to get into a build situation afraid things won’t get finished on time, if at all.
      I guess I’m asking how do you protect your investment?
      Plus we are older and we just need to get settled.
      Regarding the flooring and finishes in the first house. Yes those floors are very popular right now. In 5 years they could be very dated. Just my opinion.
      Thanks for another fantastic video Cartess. 👏
