"Air Diver" is a technical nomenclature for a watch designed for standard scuba diving, i.e. standard surface to depth to surface diving. This is in comparison to a "Saturation Diver", meant for pressure acclimated divers that live in pressurized capsules filled with heliox for long periods of time. This designation of watch will typically come with a manual or automatic helium release valve to prevent damage to the watch during decompression due to helium leeching. An interesting side note is that many saturation divers have been known to get around the lack of a standard HRV by simply unthreading the watch crown during decompression.
Bought a SRP775 tonight! Found one on clearance at JC Penny for $180 plus tax.... $196 out the door! Craziness! Wasn't looking for another diver, but felt the deal was too good to pass up.
I love my original, got it from my dad. I really love it although it was used for diving and the face did scratch up after years of use but I think it makes for a more genuine look so I never got it polished.
I have had my SRP775J1 for a 7 days now and here is the thing - it is just 20 seconds slow - IN A WEEK. I know I got lucky but that is still phenomenal. And chapter ring is almost perfect. By almost I mean 1/10 of a milimeter.
Winner here for sure. Nice to have a hackable windable movement over the 7S26. I have the rubber strap version picked up for around 320 shipped and it is sexy. Seikos are affordable enough everyone should be able to own both SKX and SRP they are both amazing in their own ways.
+SuperGear360 Not really - you can use it for mixed gas - The only issue is if you are are saturation diver and are spending time in a Bell!! In that case Helium can diffuse through the metal as it has a small ionic radius!! For normal tech diving on Heliox it's fine!!
Hello Just letting you know the reason for the Air Divers words on the case back. The reason is to state it is used and certified for Regular Scuba Depth. To breath air from a tank only and Not to be used for mixed gases diving. Hope this helps. I didn't read any of the other comments before posting it so if it's already been said my apologies.
I got my first turtle this week, after several years of watch collecting. I know what is the hype behind them. It sits so nicely on the wrist and feel so comfortable for a big and heavy watch
Great review and release from Seiko. But the SKX007 for half the price is definitely hard to beat standard or with a different strap or a Seiko oyster bracelet fitted.
Got mine early January, my only criticism is that the chapter ring is slightly out of line. Hopefully I can get this sorted when I get the crystal changed.
4 years later the SKX is almost at the same price as SRP777. Recently purchased an SRP777 as the options for SKX007 or 009 were extremely expensive. I know it has a history but still, very little updates. Maybe I will look after some homage SKX with NH36 and sapphire crystal - the downside of this is that it might not be ISO certified. Great video!
Air Diver means not using mixed gas, such as saturation divers that use mixed gas esp. helium, which having a much smaller molecule tends to enter the watch around the seals and without a release valve to purge the gas the watch tends to get destroyed upon surfacing. Hence "AIR DIVER"
Great review. My SRP777 was purchased for $239 on Amazon. I love it and wear it daily. Yes the chapter ring is off by less than a degree. Not a big deal, but why is my Citizen alignment perfect? Come on Seiko. The silicon strap is very comfortable and will be the only strap on this watch. The watch is running fast about 10 seconds daily. 5 minutes fast per month, then I hack it back monthly.
Nice video... but I was so worried about the Seiko chapter ring being misaligned the first second I saw you were reviewing this watch. It's notorious for having that problem Seiko Quality Control has been pure sh*t the past few years. I still want to get one though
Bought SRPa21J1. Like yours chapter ring is off - not acceptable QC when the watch is $300.plus! It's heavy, but I added a strap code super engineer II. Biggest quibble with the turtle is the shiny *slippery bezel*. the shininess reminds me a christmas ornament...the seiko monster's has better clicking action too. All in all, I like the rutles, but would sign the crown and brush finish the bezelwith deeper, more tool-like knurling/serrations
I've got the 775, kind of heavy, which is why the SKX is my daily beater. I wear the 775 on weekends or farting about. I wasn't too crazy about the original bracelet, so I changed to a high quality president endmill mated with a Seiko clasp, so it still looks factory original. Mine is the Made in Japan version with an English/Arabic day wheel.
I actually prefer the reverse lollipop second hand's look. also function wise, I would think lume on the second hand is only there to satisfy ISO 6425 standards and not used to track seconds, there would be no use for a diver other then this. same reason why reverse lollipop seconds are used in higher end Seiko divers like the tuna. Turtle is very tempting... I got too many watches as is... ahhhh!!! ok, there's no such thing as "too many watches". :p
I have just purchased the seiko SRP775 Japanese model in black/gold. It arrived on monday. So far it is keeping perfect time and all the chapter rings line up perfectly. The only thing I noticed today, where the lugs are (where the strap fits into the case) the curved edges on both sides, one corner edge is more flat and less rounded that the other three corner edges. Does anyone else have this issue? Is this quality control issue? I am wondering whether to send it back or not? Thanks
i had skx013. i love the size and aesthetic of the watch, and i thought i would be ok with the older movement. but unfortunately i wasn't. its a good movement but i just wish i can hack and handwind. also, the bezel on MY skx013 is 120 click, but it acts like a 60 click bezel that is off set to the odd click. so it is annoyingly meticulous to align it to 12 o'clock and any other minute marker. now, i just found out about the SRP775. i would have purchased this watch if i havently already got the monster(srp307) to placed my skx013. but there is a good chance i will still get this watch. i do question myself if i will like the cushion case in person though. it does look very classy. who knows, maybe i'll replace my mosnter with the turtle.
Hi there everyone, been wanting to get the SRP777J from an online store but couldn't help but to notice a different marking of the J model on this watch which reads "movt Japan" and the one from the online store which reads "Made in Japan",any idea why seiko made them different?
Amazing review. It is a very good model release by Seiko and it's definitely the successor to the SKX007. Although i can't get pass the egg-appearance of the hour marker lume. But that's just me.
I'm a Seiko fan. However looking at their vintage models, they look like they've been through several wars and Spy thrillers, Rolexes tend to look atlot better, does this mean that Rolex's experience less wear over time or are they more cared for?
+Richard Stevens Probably more cared for, the seiko's are usually from people who either wore it every day or just used it how it was intended to be worn; as a tool watch.
+asambi69 that's too bad cuz I actually have a Seiko snzf17k1 with a miss aligned chapter ring, only it is miss aligned at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock so it made me think it was possible to re align it.
ATTENTION. CHECK OUT FOR THE CHAPTER RING ALIGNMENT. his Srp777 has the chapter ring misalignment issue. Once u notice it you will find that its kinda common for the turtle. Seiko bad QC is to be blamed for this. Got to pop the glass out to fix this issue.
+Jordz Van 6299 one is always out of stock and impossible to get at and the other one is always available to no end. JK. It is said that the finishes differ by abit. Just like how certain owner claims that the SKX007J have better finishing compare to k model, hence price difference.
Jordz Van 6299 truthfully their all made by the exact same machinery. big deal their in diff. locations. their all the same in my opinion. love my seikos!!!!
I love my SRP 779. I got it more then a few months ago. It's got the Japan movt. At first it was +4 now it settled in to -9 seconds within 24 hours. I rest it face up at night. I love my watch but it really is a turtle compared to my other autos.
Nite Owl Just purchased my first SKX a few days ago and wish to also purchase a Turtle down the line.Recently found a brushed stainless steel SRP for around $250,not a bad price as the Solar models are becoming more popular and the automatics a fading.
tried the watch at shop today. The 779 looks great, the 775 does not look as good as in video and photo. will get the 779 as a gift for myself after completing the project in hand.
Mạnh Trần their all machined the exact same. ive spoken with some people who personally have worked in seiko factories in the past. their all machined and put together the Exact same way everywhere their assembled. the only difference is location of the physical buildings in which their produced. its just diff. printing on the dial like made in japan, movt. japan and such. all the same. enjoy
'Land Sea & Air' .. it's kinda 'curious' like Omega's Seamaster Railmaster. 'Curious' as in dysfunctional. It's as if the watches accrue titles over any realm they might perhaps apply. A manager is loathe to identify his product line. Somewhat similarly, I'd be a bigger fan if, instead of the slight dial variations eg SRP775, they made a no-date version to accompany the SRP777. No doubt they can't comprehend the attractiveness of a no-date model. And again, ceding established functionality must seem counter-intuitive.
onLYbyMoon this particular model wears a little bit smaller than its width because of the lug to lug being fairly smaller. i totally agree though. thk god its not a crappy invicta. i love my turtles!

I will gladly choose this SRP turtle over SKX
Hugely exciting release!
Bought a SRP775 tonight! Found one on clearance at JC Penny for $180 plus tax.... $196 out the door! Craziness! Wasn't looking for another diver, but felt the deal was too good to pass up.
Lucky you! Love mine. Keeping it forever.
DAMN!
Received a 775 for Christmas from my wife to replace my old Gulf War era 7002. Got it from Amazon for

'Air Diver means the watch is suitable for Scuba Diving with normal air mixture and not mixed gas or helium'
Haha I was just about to write that :)
+SuperGear360 Thanks for that!
+SuperGear360 Not really - you can use it for mixed gas - The only issue is if you are are saturation diver and are spending time in a Bell!! In that case Helium can diffuse through the metal as it has a small ionic radius!! For normal tech diving on Heliox it's fine!!
+Sinaisid yes, but that IS Seiko's rationale for the label.
+Mike Ege Not very accurate description then - hope the watch has better accuracy ;-)

Good review. I walked over to Seiko on Madison and purchased one. I really love it. Thank you for the review and keep them coming!
Ordered mine day ago. Great watch, im happy that i will own one!
I'm assuming that this is going t o be the most viewed watch review of the year. excited to acquire one soon :)
It's also going to be the most in demand watch of the year!
excellent review, a much anticipated release from Seiko
Great review and release from Seiko. But the SKX007 for half the price is definitely hard to beat standard or with a different strap or a Seiko oyster bracelet fitted.

I feel like I speak for the majority when I say this: Loving the more frequent uploads! Great work W&W team!!
I've been waiting for an in depth review of this one. Great job my friend.
4 years later the SKX is almost at the same price as SRP777. Recently purchased an SRP777 as the options for SKX007 or 009 were extremely expensive. I know it has a history but still, very little updates. Maybe I will look after some homage SKX with NH36 and sapphire crystal - the downside of this is that it might not be ISO certified.

this is the first time somebody pointed it out. thank you.

So happy with this rerelease, I've wanted a 6309 for a while but have only come across wrecks, definitely going to get myself a 777, great review.
So excited got the gold one!
Great review.....Thank you....I have both the 777 and the 779......Both with handmade custom leather straps...Love em both to bits ;)
sofa king jelly. just got my first 777, and no custom straps yet =( how are yours holding up?
Nice video... but I was so worried about the Seiko chapter ring being misaligned the first second I saw you were reviewing this watch. It's notorious for having that problem Seiko Quality Control has been pure sh*t the past few years. I still want to get one though
still got my own SRP777
in hindsight I would have preferred getting a SRP775 instead of an skx007, the skx feels like it wears much smaller than I anticipated.
Bought SRPa21J1. Like yours chapter ring is off - not acceptable QC when the watch is $300.plus! It's heavy, but I added a strap code super engineer II. Is this a special run for this series of watch or will it be in the line for a long time?
I really like it. i wear a Seiko BFK now and its a nice watch but i like that cushion case on the turtle reminds me of the Doxa.
I've got the 775, kind of heavy, which is why the SKX is my daily beater. I wear the 775 on weekends or farting about. I wasn't too crazy about the original bracelet, so I changed to a high quality president endmill mated with a Seiko clasp, so it still looks factory original. Me too! Keeping mine forever.
Very good review. It would've been excellent had the sound been properly adjusted. Thanks

I like Seiko watches more and more every time i see a new Japanese Domestic model. Awesome brand. Highly underrated
Wonderful detailed and concise video. Very informative.
Hi there everyone, been wanting to get the SRP777J from an online store but couldn't help but to notice a different marking of the J model on this watch which reads "movt Japan" and the one from the online store which reads "Made in Japan",any idea why seiko made them different?
What about the "MOVT JAPAN" then?do you have a link to that findings that i may read thru.
I bought mine 2nd hand is very very good condition.
Previous owner didnt wear it often. So he sold it to me at 50%
dont you find the oyster bracelet to be... noisy? is that normal?
Nice! Thanks for the review guys!! Been waiting for this watch. This watch with the seiko jubilee for a real vintage look sounds good to me.
Loooks great, is the bracelet same on the PADI?
Great review, awaiting the broad USA availability of the SRP779 Pepsi bezel.
Can any of you name/recommend other entry-level or mid-tier dive watches with bezels sloping down towards the crystal? Thx.
Great review, thank you.

Where can I go to have it for maintenance??? Thanks!
Mine loses 0.7 seconds per day, recorded over the course of 3 months.
Mine runs - 0.8 per day. Great accuracy for a low cost automatic diver.
If it has the kanji day wheel, does it mean it's JDM?
found some dial mention Made in Japan, Movt Japan and 4R36 on 6 o'clock.. what a diff of this sir..
"Made in Japan" is for Japanese domestic market. It is little bit costlier in price that particular print.
which is your favorite turtle colour
Is it possible to get the chapter ring realigned properly at a repair shop if you were to get one that was misaligned ?
+21asds From what research i've found online its a printing problem not a misalignment issue.
+asambi69 that's too bad cuz I actually have a Seiko snzf17k1 with a miss aligned chapter ring, only it is miss aligned at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock so it made me think it was possible to re align it.
Is there a serial number or name for this rubber strap?
which one should i get?
What is the difference between the J version and the K version in this case?
+Jordz Van 6299 one is always out of stock and impossible to get at and the other one is always available to no end. JK.
It is said that the finishes differ by abit. Just like how certain owner claims that the SKX007J have better finishing compare to k model, hence price difference.
+Mustapha Sabli do you know where the K version is made?
Jordz Van 6299 AFAIK, K is all manufactured in Malaysia.
Jordz Van 6299 truthfully their all made by the exact same machinery. big deal their in diff. locations. their all the same in my opinion. love my seikos!!!!
Jeff D
Yeah I managed to get a K version.
Where can I get one?
what's the bezel width? 41mm or 45mm?
Hi,
What is the weight please?
Excellent video
is the misalignment of the bezel fixable?
510MyTube any competent watchmaker could easily pop it out and move it to line up correctly.
I love my SRP 779. I got it more then a few months ago. It's got the Japan movt. At first it was +4 now it settled in to -9 seconds within 24 hours. I rest it face up at night. I love my watch but it really is a turtle compared to my other autos.

The date and day of crooked located. It is the standard for today's Seiko)
Can I rock this if I have a small wrist?
Matthijs Hogendoorn How small is your wrist?
Jack1979 I already bought the srp777 and it looks great, but still thanks for the reply
Matthijs Hogendoorn No problem, enjoy the watch man. I just bought the 773, blue face. Waiting on the postman is killing me, slow bastards lol
air diver is a level of commercial dive certification
R Dixon
do we get both straps if we buy the srp775k1?
No you won't get the rubber strap but you can buy the strap if you contact your local Seiko distributor directly.
HarryUnchained seiko also sells straps?
Yes; you can buy rubber straps and metal bracelets from Seiko distributors.
tried the watch at shop today. The 779 looks great, the 775 does not look as good as in video and photo. will get the 779 as a gift for myself after completing the project in hand.
Why does the 775 not look as good as in the video?
Does the day wheel in English/Arabic or English?Spanish ???
marcus tee There are two dates, it has both the Spanish and the English dates on it.
great review, i'll wait for made in jp version
+Mạnh Trần is there much difference between them?
idk, it may be better finished, just like others J model
Mạnh Trần their all machined the exact same. ive spoken with some people who personally have worked in seiko factories in the past. their all machined and put together the Exact same way everywhere their assembled. the only difference is location of the physical buildings in which their produced. its just diff. printing on the dial like made in japan, movt. japan and such. all the same. enjoy
How accurate was it ?
+ 3 seconds a day
Alex Sibley That is amazing
The cushion style case does nothing for me. I think the SKX offers a better value and looks better.
I agree
chillwill120 Wrong!
I agree, however, I suppose in terms of value, for $60 extra, you get solid endlinks and hacking/handwinding
'Land Sea & Air' .. it's kinda 'curious' like Omega's Seamaster Railmaster. 'Curious' as in dysfunctional. It's as if the watches accrue titles over any realm they might perhaps apply. A manager is loathe to identify his product line.

Yes! All diver / tool / field watches should have drilled through lugs.
Air Diving is good for me, I rarely dive deeper than 100ft, definitely will never go deeper than 120ft.
this or sumo? i can't decide
The Sumo is the better quality watch overall but I just love the look of srp777, that's why I bought it instead of the Sumo
Eddie Alvarez sumo is a step up in finishing and movement but the 20mm lug width makes the watch look a bit off. i love my turtles more.
Japanese made?
My SRP777 is a week old and gaining a minute per day. Is this acceptable?
No
Air Diver for air diving. Helium for saturation diving.
relax everyone. k j lmnop. lol. their all made in the same factory just diff. fonts are printed on the dial.
Jeff D Thanks. Currently the K models are going for about $100 less than the J’s. I just can’t see spending that on some print on the dial.
Found my blue dial for $350 shipped
I thought the 4r36 had 24 jewels
watch lover RRSOS m
I have a Rolex 14060 Sub and the bracelet is really awful. The seiko's I have and still own are so much better.
Rolex bracelets never really got crazy good until the 11610.
Seiko did a great job except for the seconds hand lolipop, the quality control, and the casing being made in China.....
If only it got sapphire....
If only they came in 40mm or even better 38mm.
So many watches are ruined due to having a too large of case diameter... It's such a sad thing.
onLYbyMoon this particular model wears a little bit smaller than its width because of the lug to lug being fairly smaller. i totally agree though. thk god its not a crappy invicta. i love my turtles!
Jeff D
Comfort is not the only issue in big watches. They are just too big to be practical for everyday usage.
onLYbyMoon Really, what year did you graduate in watch making?
still feel very comfort on hand with 6 inch wrist
I have a made in Japan version totally perfect on ebay dbsandman305
Are these made in usa?
Vintage divers selling for six figures easily? Okay.
My new watch is keeping phenomenal time. 3 seconds variance per week,. Eat your heart out ROLEX!
Stop saying "Um". It will make your speaking and video skills rise.
